Need help - Woman rider - looking to buy first wakeboard boat but I feel like I am being taken -Does anyone know MSRP on Malibu Wakesetter VLX 08 - and what about MasterCraft x-2 <BR> <BR>Can't find much info on the web with prices -

flatcher 03-17-2008 5:09 PM

I believe MSRP on VLX will be in the mid 70's for a fairly well equipped one. But you shouldn't pay more than 85% of the MSRP. I believe the X-2 will MSRP around the low 80's and again apply the 85% rule. (In other words take off 15%. I know I'm stating the obvious but just want to be clear.)

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:17 PM

vlx 4 speakers - mirror - swivel racks - 2 batteries - bimini top - 6 disc changer - among others - 59k - is there anything i should be getting that I am not

liljohn 03-17-2008 5:19 PM

power wedge. wake hull. and full 4 tank ballast.would be on the mandatory list for that price.

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:24 PM

all of that included - sorry - like i said new to this - I am kind of getting that price is high?

tyboarder03 03-17-2008 5:37 PM

as long as thats with a tandem trailer thats actually a pretty fair price on the VLX

1boarder_kevin 03-17-2008 5:37 PM

if you are buying now, you will pay the more than any other time of the year. Dealers won't be as motivated to sell with everyone gearing up for the summer. On the other hand, the economy is slow and won't be speeding up this summer, so who knows. <BR> <BR>FYI, I paid 80 % and then had $2000 knocked off (I paid roughly 78% of MSRP)for buying in dec/jan for a 2008 x2 <BR> <BR>(Message edited by 1boarder_kevin on March 17, 2008)

kko13 03-17-2008 5:41 PM

you can get the new tige Z1 with every option for thousands less.incl. trailer <BR> <BR>(Message edited by kko13 on March 17, 2008)

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:42 PM

great then I feel a bit better - yes tandem trailer - the boat is beautiful - we will have lot's of fun

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:45 PM

yes - tige' a sweet boat but when we looked at boat show and wasn't the one we liked the best -

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:46 PM

what about 59k on x-2?

polarbill 03-17-2008 5:48 PM

Those both sound like really good prices to me for a 2008 heading right into the start of the season. What options on the X2?

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:51 PM

the options not as good on the x-2 smaller engine 310 - I can't remember except it is blue -going back tomorrow to look at both but heart set on malibu -----

bobby_hottub 03-17-2008 5:52 PM

Kim, <BR>Sounds like a good price on the VLX. Roughly what I paid for a new one in 2007. Don't know if it was a good deal or not, but we love the boat!! Don't have any personal knowledge of the X-2, but from what I hear it is a great boat too. Good luck. Post pics when you seal the deal.

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 5:55 PM

oooo we are sooo jazzed - taking a dive on the old boat - we didn't know what we were buying - didn't know we would love boarding - love it all - the entire riding community is great - can't wait to travel texas board

texasissippi 03-17-2008 6:02 PM

where in houston do you live??

houstongirl626 03-17-2008 6:06 PM

central houston - u

three6ty 03-17-2008 6:06 PM

Kim, <BR> Have you looked into a 1-2 yr old used boat. There are a few 2006 VLX's with super low hours on here for $45K or so. Still has a warrantee and most dealers will extend it as well for a little $$. That boat will lose $5-8 K the minute you drive it off the lot. There are a ton of good used boats out there from people suffering with the Mortgage and housing Problems who just want to get rid of them. <BR>Just another option.

three6ty 03-17-2008 6:14 PM

Check out some of their other boats as well. All are bank Repos <BR><a href="http://www.yachtauctions.com/detail.asp?stockNo=17195" target="_blank">http://www.yachtauctions.com/detail.asp?stockNo=17195</a> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/8/548247.html?1204689953" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/8/548247.html?1204689953</a> <BR><a href="http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=70592" target="_blank">http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=70592</a> <BR><a href="http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=62738" target="_blank">http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=62738</a> <BR> <BR>Only to name a few

three6ty 03-17-2008 6:15 PM

not all of those are repos, just the ones from the first link. <BR> <BR>Sorry. Just trying to help.

woreout 03-17-2008 6:30 PM

X2 msrp mid to high 70's with MCX, PP, 2 tower speakers and trailer. <BR>There are 2 X2's for sale in my area one 07 and one 06 the 06 has 50hrs and is 49500.00 with a tandem trailer, and the 07 is 55k with 40hrs and has a single axle trailer. <BR>Both have MCX and tower speakers no PP though. <BR>They are friends of mine and I know they have been well taken care of.

johnny_defacto 03-17-2008 6:32 PM

step one <BR> <BR>vlx... test drive and get a pull <BR>x2... test drive and get a pull <BR> <BR>step two <BR> <BR>repeat step one

dtr 03-17-2008 7:57 PM

I thought MC held their price better than that . Paying mid to high 70's for a boat than year later selling it for 55. Ouch!

99_slaunch 03-17-2008 8:38 PM

S.W. Houston/Sugarland for us. I think Rinkers Boat World on 249 has two used bu's at there shop for sale.

ponte_06_x2 03-17-2008 8:41 PM

hey donny. my bet would be is that people who bought boats with home equity lines of credit are needing to sell them fast. so its better to get 55 grand back then nothing. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by ponte_06_x2 on March 17, 2008)

polarbill 03-17-2008 8:56 PM

plus they didn't pay mid to high 70's. My guess is they paid low to mid 60's.

dtr 03-17-2008 8:57 PM

all eyes on me- Your might be right on the money their. Scary times

flamethewolf 03-17-2008 9:36 PM

yeah no boat holds its value well relative to the MSRP..... you have to buy it right to be able to get out of it in the first couple years... our plan is to sell our x1 in year 4 or 5 but we'll see what happens to boat prices...

mrm2083 03-17-2008 10:38 PM

Ya msrp doesnt mean anything, they really sell for much cheaper. I paid 53 for my 06 x2 brand new so if that boat actually sells for 55 its not that much depreciation

houstongirl626 03-18-2008 6:02 AM

wow guys thanks for all the help <BR>we really like the new malibu - plus they are giving us more for the boat we are trading in upside down but not so bad -

texasissippi 03-18-2008 6:10 AM

there is a BAD ASS malibu up in dallas for sale. i am from the woodlands. i live in mississippi now but moving back to houston by summer. <BR> <BR>(i was really looking into that malibu but i decided to move back to houston and i cant take on that extra payment till i get settled there)

texasissippi 03-18-2008 6:12 AM

ps, there is a good friend of mine that lives in houston that has a new x-2 (pretty sure its a 07). if you want to get out and see how you like it, i can get you his contact info.

houstongirl626 03-18-2008 7:05 AM

justin - you are sooo nice - where do you ride? We are looking for some great places to ride -

denverd1 03-18-2008 7:36 AM

kim, good luck with the purchase. just be patient and you'll find the boat for you. VLXs are so clean. <BR> <BR>I'm up in Tyler, so when you guys get ready for a trip we may have to get in touch. Took a pull on Saturday, chilly but definitely doable. <BR> <BR>Have fun picking out a boat!

texasissippi 03-18-2008 8:21 AM

kim - right now i am still in mississippi and ride out here usually but travel to lafayette about once a month at least! the people out there are awesome and there are some cool places to ride. <BR> <BR>in tx, check out GCWA.COM - the houston area wakeboarding club. the BEST place in texas to ride is the trinity river. its about an hour north of houston and there is more smooth water than you have ever seen! my fam has a house up there. we will def have to all meet up and ride sometime when i get back over there!! let me know if you are really interested in trying the X2 out. J is a really cool guy - he lives on the water like 30 min from down town.

cavlxenvy 03-18-2008 8:28 AM

If you have an upside down trade then you will probably pay a bit more for your boat. A dealer will hold more money in a boat on a trade-in due to the risk involved. You don't always make money on a trade-in.

lknboarder 03-18-2008 8:35 AM

both are top notch boats it all comes down to personal preference

snork 03-19-2008 6:49 AM

Why buy a VLX or a x2 when you can buy my 2007 MasterCraft XSTAR for less than 65K

rallyart 03-19-2008 10:18 AM

hmmm... might be that extra 10k. You could get a tow vehicle for that snork. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

denverd1 03-19-2008 12:04 PM

on a side note, its illegal for dealers and finance companies to roll forward any debt from the previous asset and finance it as part of the new asset. cars, boats whatever.

moomba55 03-19-2008 12:23 PM

Nacho- If your statement is in fact true, the dealers and/or finance companies sure do a good job of hiding that previous debt.

wakebrdr38 03-19-2008 3:53 PM

theres a black and pink bu on dallasboats4sale.com looks pretty cool

waterfreak 03-19-2008 6:02 PM

Here is some info <BR> <BR>MSRP for 07 X2 is $60,370.00 <BR>MSRP for 07 VLX Malibu is $58,095.00

spoondog 03-19-2008 7:04 PM

"on a side note, its illegal for dealers and finance companies to roll forward any debt from the previous asset and finance it as part of the new asset. cars, boats whatever." <BR> <BR>people roll negative equity into new vehicles all the time. Banks will allow you to finance 130 percent of your vehicle's value, of course its upon credit approval.

woreout 03-19-2008 7:38 PM

Msrp nobody pays it. 55k is a good deal for an 07 <BR>I think he paid 65k new he got about a 10k discount from msrp.

snork 03-20-2008 6:59 AM

Art, Why go half ways? Buy a mediocre boat and a 10k piece of sh-t tow vehicle. If you have to pay todays prices go all the way for little more.

jamie_lamar 03-20-2008 7:10 AM

Kim - Did you get my e-mail?

wakecumberland 03-20-2008 1:52 PM

A 10k tow vehicle is not necessarily a piece. I bought a 99 Suburban 4x4 SLT with 83k miles on it for $9k two years ago. It has been great for my needs and looks really sharp. I get lots of compliments. I'd rather spend the money on the boat.

h2oboy 03-20-2008 3:01 PM

Kim- MC AND BU are great boats..... Now make your choice based on the local dealer because when your spending that kind of money.....SERVICE is everything

azpowerhouse 03-20-2008 3:55 PM

I think she got a black and yellow Malibu VLX......... <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/3183/559870.html?1206052251" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/3183/559870.html?1206052251</a>

steveotx 03-21-2008 9:01 AM

Kim, <BR> <BR>Give the boys at TXMC in DFW a shout on an X2. They had a few 07's left and have some crazy deals.

denverd1 03-21-2008 9:10 AM

mikey - is it done all the time? yes. Is there any recourse if this happened to you? yes. <BR> <BR>Kim, if you haven't yet looked at Supras yet, check out Waterski Boats Dallas in lewisville.

spoondog 03-21-2008 11:40 AM

Sorry if this going a little off topic, Kim. But i'm interested in what Nacho is saying. I've been trying to search for what kind of recourse a bank will take. <BR> <BR>Nacho - can you show me a source? I'm interested because everything i've read on edmunds.com, cars.com, yahoo.com says that banks allow it pending credit approval. I see nothing illegal about doing it. Unless by recourse, you mean that its just a bad idea and not illegal than i agree that in some cases its a bad idea. Perhaps it is different in different states. In Ca it is openly practiced. <BR> <BR>If you are suggesting that dealerships are sliding 3,4,5 or even 10k worth of negative equity by the banks without them knowing than you are underestimating the banks' knowledge of what cars or boats are worth. Banks know exactly what cars are worth, in fact they set residuals on cars in cases of leasing.
