Need advice on a good boat under 60k

We are looking for a good all around wakeboard/surf/ski boat. We have owned a chaparral for a long time but are wanting to trade. I know a lot about the inboard/outboard boats but not a lot about the wake board boats. We are looking to stay under 60k. We want at least a 22 Ft boat and one that is a good all around boat. I don't want anything fancy but would like to know what boats do best in rough water like lake powell. I've been in my buddies 21 ft 08 malibu and it wasn't too bad but would prefer the 23 foot.

I have been really interested in the MB brand because they are simple and i feel like i am not spending a lot of money on stuff i don't need. Also are the Moomba's/supra's a good boat? I have only been in a 08 malibu, 08 tige, and a newer mb. I felt the interior of the Tige was cheap as it was already tearing and seemed paper thin and the malibu seemed like a good all around boat.

Thanks

Axis, MB, Tige, Moomba are going to be what you can get under $60k.

What dealers are nearby you?

If you like Malibu, then the Axis might be a good choice. In '13 they got a big vinyl upgrade. They, like the MB, don't have a lot of bells and whistles, but everything you need to have great days on the water.

I have a loaded 08 centurion falcon v for sale for 42k don't think you can find a more loaded boat for less $$ let me know if you want more details

Axis and Malibu are NOT the best choices if you are concerned with rough water performance. Look at boats with a deep V if this is a main concern. MB, and Moomba Mojo comes to mind.

They do fine at powell though.

Sanger should be on your list.

If your talking brand new your going to have a tough time in any 22 footer for 60K OTD.

Brands mentioned above may be a starting point.
Tige your looking RZ2 to be 22 feet. No way under 60K
Axis A22 to be 22 feet. Maybe stripped down 60K
Moomba you looking at the Mojo again maybe stripped under 60K
Not sure on the Sanger or MB as they don't sell in my area.

Unfortunately in the new market at 60K you are in the 20 foot range and the cheaper 20 footers at that. I can't think of a 22 you can touch, especially if you are talking Tax title and license out the door.

If rough water ride is important you need to be looking at something with a deep V all the way through and probably want to avoid the Pickle Fork bows and stay with a traditional V.

Just talked with a dealer about a supreme v226 and you might be able to get that down to 60k stripped down. It has the deeper v design and is known to be a good surf boat.

i would say axis a22 2013-14 or Malibu lsv 2010-2012 for that price or close too, also nautique 210 and 230 should be considered,,,,, I think those are all great choices and great boats

boardjnky4 01-07-2014 11:06 AM

Oh, I almost forgot about Centurion. You might be able to get an Avalanche in that price range.

phatboypimp 01-07-2014 11:49 AM

I would think that based on what you are describing that you don't need $60K if you are open to a used boat. Two years ago I bought 08 Xstar for $65K with 170 hours. After buying used I will never buy new again.

Take a look at this video, I linked it to start at a specific time during which hull design and ride comfort is discussed. Since you mentioned ride comfort in chop, I think it's relevant.

This in no way means I'm pushing you towards a mastercraft, just that I don't think the Deep V is THAT much better in chop than a shallower hull.

wakebordr11 01-07-2014 11:52 AM

If you truly want to slalom then you should get a Malibu VTX with surf gate. You'll be over 60 but you will be able to do everything you desire...

If that's the case, then the A20 with surfgate should be chosen, since it keeps him within budget and it's a VERY similar hull.

Thanks for all the info. I am leaning towards used o get more options. I've heard good things about the centurions and love the looks of the nautiques. this might be a dumb question but does the size of thw boat make better wakes and better ride? Thanks again guys.

boardman74 01-07-2014 12:48 PM

Thats a tough question to answer, but typically yes. But it depends on the individual hull.

boardjnky4 01-07-2014 12:50 PM

A bigger boat will throw a bigger wake just by virtue of size, weight and, ultimately, displacement.

If you're going used, at $60k you have A LOT of options.

Cabledog 01-07-2014 1:24 PM

Supreme v226 is a 22 1/2 ft boat. Deep Vee is good in the chop and should be able to get at 60K new.

16igordon 01-07-2014 1:46 PM

At 60k, I would definitely look used. You could probably get an Axis or Moomba new for that price point, but you would get a much nicer boat that is maybe a few years old. At 60k you could definitely get a 23LSV barely used and probably a Nautique 230. But if you are persistant with new, I would take a look at the Moomba Mondo- I got quoted around 50k for one and was very impressed with it in person.

gibbs114 01-07-2014 3:17 PM

I have my 2011 Axis for Sale if you are interested in a used Axis.

brainrinse 01-07-2014 5:23 PM

Like others said take a look at the Moomba Mojo and the LSV too.

MB hands down for the win. Here is a link to pictures of our 23wb.

Is it really reasonable to think you can get a b52 23 for 60k? When I looked last September I couldn't even get a left over mb for that price even with it being my first choice.

501s 01-07-2014 6:12 PM

If it's new, a Moomba mojo or Axis A22.

If it is used Id look at a Malibu 23LSV.

depends on the options on it Rusty and some time has passed :)

antoddio 01-07-2014 7:51 PM

Supreme V226 or V232 should be on your list. Solid boats that have a great surf wake a good wakeboarding wake. Both with a very deep V that will handle chop better than about any inboard. Def should be able to get a V232 in your price range.

boardman74 01-08-2014 12:07 PM

I thought they went under a few years ago??? Since 09 by looking at their website still online.

scottywcp 01-08-2014 12:16 PM

they have not updated the site, but I saw a new calabria, with a reverse tower in Colorado. '13 bout 6months ago

scottywcp 01-08-2014 12:17 PM

I also don't live too far from the factory, and when I drive down the highway, they are open. Seen a few boats out there lately, so who knows.

MIKEnNC 01-08-2014 6:30 PM

If it was me it would be 230, lsv, or a22 on my short list for used
