Tranny Noise?

I have followed here for awhile but can't post due to work restrictions, yeah i take a break from work and jump on Wake World. This weekend i noticed a chirping noise coming from what sounds like the transmission, like something might been thrown against the outer casing? It only happened on long cruises at 30 ish MPH. If I stopped, the noise would go away for awhile then return. Never happened wakeboarding or surfing. The boat ran fine, transmission fluid is full and it did not appear to be slipping. Anybody dealt with a similar issue or have ideas as to what to check? The boat is a 2004 XStar with the 350 MCX engine.

Long higher speed runs would normally mean higher transmission temperatures so it could be a bearing starting to go or it could be that it is overfilled a bit. Pay attention to whether it might be the transmission or the v-drive gear case. Check the fluid in both and pay attention for any sudden change in the sound.

Thanks Art, I'll take a look at the fluid level in the V drive to see if it is where it is supposed to be, didn't check that last weekend.

Check the trans cooler inlet for debri.. when the impeller gets cooked the pieces will clog up the trans cooler causing the trans fluid to run hot... In turn a loud, cooking velvet drive trans... the trans fluid should be changed every couple of years..
