Grand cayman

Anyone been before? Going for a quick trip in may, all expenses covered. Staying at the Ritz on 7 mile beach.
Are there any "must do's" while i am there? I dont dive, so scuba is out. Am open to pretty much everything else. Are the shipwrecks worth it for snorkling or snuba?
Thanks in advance.

Ive been there 3 times...you taking family with you or just solo? Snorkeling is good there, snorkeled a few wrecks out there if youre not into scuba. Stingray city was cool too.

Just wife and I. And 250 of her colleagues, but we are only tied to them for our dinner.

They have a Brutus Maximus flowrider there like the one in San diego I will probably get to that on before I get to the one out in San diego

I second this if you have never been going to stingray city is cool. If you're into craft beer there is a grand cayman brewery that makes some decent beers as well. We picked up a couple six packs at a liquor store and strolled around town last time we were there. Margaritaville is pretty fun.

I went wakeboarding behind a CSX right in front of the Ritz. But I dont think he is there anymore. You can check.

I wanted to do the stingrays, but the wife said no effing way! looks like we are going to snorkel at one of the shipwrecks for one morning. need to find at least one other activity. I will check out the wakeboard site too. wakeboarding in crystal clear waters is always a fun experience. thanks guys.

Just got back last night. Amazing place. I have never seen such beautiful ocean before. Swam with stingrays, turtles, checked out a sunken ship. Just walking along 7 mile beach at sunset was amazing. It helps when you have zero worries about money since everything was covered, but i can see myself going back here again. After being in maui last year, i thought i would not need to travel anywhere else again. Not so sure now.

stingray city is awesome you don't even have to get off the boat if you don't want to, you can stay on one of the pontoons and look at all of them, or get in and pet them, they are freaky at first but its fun after that.. shops in town are awesome, and really expensive, there are good restaurants but i think some of the best ones will be where your hotel are. you need to check out Hell too. its a place where rock formations look like flames its pretty cool. they have some of the best snorkeling around though. here is a link to some good snorkeling sites, 7 mile beach is good so is the cemetary and the wreck of geneva. I've been there a few times. if you can you need to check out the first one on there though its awesome, i haven't snorkeled it only dive, but its awesome, called devil's grotto, its gorgeous and deep but if you catch it right you can see all the way down from the top and if you can hold you're breathe for a sec you can check it out pretty good.

Train,
Glad to here it is still awsome there. I went there 10 years ago for a college trip and loved it. We went to little caymen as well and the diving there was unreal. Have always wanted to go back, maybe I will make it in the next year or so. A little off the topic but if anyone is heading there I have been trying to get some tortuga rum but it looks like they have discontinued distribution to the US. If anyone is heading there and wants to pick me up some I am sure we can work out a deal.

Just booked another trip back for june of 2014! Gonna rent a house near rum point with another family for 2 weeks.
Anyone know of any "craigslist" type sites for grand cayman? CL has a caribean region, but nothing from grand cayman pops up. Was hoping to purchase a couple kayaks when we get there, cuz the daily rental fees are ridiculous.
Gonna try and man up and get scuba certified as well. The other family we are going with are divers, so i may need to go down that road!

...generally the "landlords" of these places will have something or know where to get them.

ttrigo 08-20-2013 10:10 AM

thats where we booked our house. the owner just recommended a rental place down the beach. the cost for 2 weeks of rentals is crazy. I could buy a decent used kayak here on CL for less than what 2 weeks of rentals costs over there. thanks though.
