Any good stories of pissed off fishermen? <BR> <BR>My buddy told one that casted at us, "You are lucky your kid is with you because I would rip off your arm and beat you with it."

I have been at the lake in December when the water is 50 degrees and the air is 50 degrees and every fisherman is all bundled up with their thermosas of coffee. I go riding by and they all stop to look at the crazy guy out their riding in a spring suit. That is always fun. I especially like to ride by them and make them think that I'm about to spray them. They freak out. I never do but it is fun to mess with them.

Are you guys seriously riding that close to the fisherman or are they just dumb enough to start fishing where you're already riding? <BR> <BR>I had a couple old folks start fishing where we had been riding already for a couple hours. They kept throwing their arms in the air at us. I thought they were just cheering us on for doing some quality crashes, but as soon as we stopped for lunch, the old man came over &amp; told us that it was "HIS" lake &amp; we needed to find a different lake to ride on. Needless to say, his fishing day ended up with a whole lot of power turns until he left the area. This isn't even a small lake, We were the only other boat riding out there so he could've went anywhere.

i dont know the full story, but an incident happened at my lake 2 years ago where a fisherman got pissed off (not sure what the wakeboarders did so i am not making accusations) and followed the rider and the boat. the rider fell and the fisherman ran over the rider. got cut up pretty bad and was airlifted. no matter what the rider did, it did not warrant getting run over by the fishmerman. i will have to ask around and get the full story now that it has probably been resolved.

The new thing on our lake is for fishermen to wait till the last second and take off right in front of the boat, cutting us off. I guess they get we don't like rollers, but when you throw something off their wave and smile, they just get angrier. Def had a fisherman in a tube (yes, in the middle of a huge lake) that we apologized to for throwing waves his way tell us how he threatens jet skiers with his .22... needless to say we chilled with him for a minute and asked him to keep jet skiers out of our way too. Def showed us he was packing too!

yea, i love to cruise by in a neo top when they're all bundled up trying to stay warm! <BR> <BR>last weekend, there was 3 pontoons tied up just cruising around the lake. no big deal. until they cruise over to the most narrow part of the lake. we have to drive in circles counter-clockwise around an island. there was nowhere for us to go but b/w them and the shore. Well, i got really close to hosing down this old blue-haired up on the bow of one of the pontoon boats. I really wasn't trying to get her soaked but just let them know they were in the way and that i could. i didn't think i sprayed her at all, but the crew said she patted herself down and looked kinda pissed. so they moved! problem solved!

I've been casted at a couple of times. They don't really get close enough, but they like to think we're too close. If you can't hit me with your lure, I wasn't that close to you. <BR> <BR>The ones that swear, give you the 'ol number one or cast at you will usually get a nice slow turn right around them. I love to watch them a minute later when those rollers converge right where they are...see them hanging onto the side of the boat. Usually they go away shortly after or they get slowly pushed out of the way

we had a guy try to run over the rope too. his boat didn't move for the rest of the summer.

stupid fisherman, don't they know that the fish do not care if the water is calm or choppy?

i didnt have a disgruntled fisherman (although the boat looked like a fishing boat). but a guy who sucked at skiing came into the ski course while we were riding. There is nothing that says you cant wakeboard in there as long as you follow the rules, dont tear up the course and take your turns. this guy came in and demanded i get out of there and "try and observe the rules". So him and my dad got into it pretty good and they eventually left. A lil while later i saw the jerks trying to ski out in the chop of the main channel.

We've had several encounters with fisherman....one made loops around us trying to cut our rope, one 80 year old man was waiting on us at the parking lot with an axehandle, and several that pull right in out path and take off at the last minute.

well atleast he didnt have the complete axe... things could have been worse. gotta look on the bright side...lol jp<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

Last summer, there was an elderly man and woman, with their grandchild, sitting by the boat ramp fishing. After I launched the boat and started pulling away from the ramp area, He came running toward me yelling that my boat wake washed up on shore and turned over his bucket of minnows. My son said and his friend witnessed, while I was launching my boat, this old man's grandchild actually dumping the minnows in the lake, while his grandparents we'ren't looking. Wouldn't you know, I got the blame for it! <BR> <BR>For what it's worth my Sunsetters wake, at below idle speed is next to nothing. <BR> <BR> <BR>Fishermen need to stay away from boat ramps, if they don't like some wakes!

Nothing like a lure weight at 20+ mph either. That is one thing that will turn me to the offensive

My parents were wakeboarding with some of their freinds and they rode by a guy fishing off of his PEIR, his peir i mind you, after a few minutes of cursing back and forth the guy said that he was going to build his peir all the way across the lake and just cut everyone off. It wasnt even a floating peir.

Im always wondering why fishermen always seem to have disgruntled looks on their faces while out in the water, and wakeboarders are always smiling? <BR>You should be smiling no matter what your on or what your doing, if your out on the water - life is good!!! <BR>You can put me on a yaught, a star, mali, nautique, epic, mb, supra, supreme, reinel, bass boat, canoe, paddle boat, whatever! - im in the water, not on land looking at everyone on the water wishin i was out there with them. <BR>HAPPY!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

Not really a funny story: <BR> <BR>When i was 7 my cousin was driving the boat, he was 12. There was an adult in the boat, and my Aunt was behind the boat. The adult in the boat was helping my 12 year old cousin, who is driving the boat, fix the radio. My aunt was waving at us, so i waved back... then she let go. So i signaled my cousin she was down, everyone looks up and we are like 10 feet from a fishing boat. The people in the fishing boat had already bailed. My cousin cranked the boat left and gave the fisherman in the water, and their boat a great spray. <BR> <BR>My cousin was in soo much trouble, and even my parents were cautious about even letting me take out the boat out until recently. Im 22 now!

Big guy in a little tin boat... riding in a river thats only about 40 feet wide... sacked out boat... We definetly got the birdy and casted at.

I had a buddy go for a fake spray to two kids that were fishing around the area. Nothing to big, didnt get them wet or anything. They get absolutely furious! Start yelling, casting, flipping the bird, and even the pretend cut your neck thingy with your thumb. After waiving all too politely, may have been somehwat mockingly<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0>, We just live and let live, and forget about it. <BR> <BR>After a couple more hours of riding we head back to the marina and guess who has a slip on the dock next to us? Our new found friends come over with some liquid courage and start yelling and trheating to break limbs or something.

guys, dont get me wrong, im a die hard wakeboarder, but put it from there perspective we are in these 20+ foot boats weighted down throwing huge rollers all over the lake, they are usually near shore fishing, while a big loud boat keeps buzzing by usually with stereo blasting. If you are out in a lil low profile 20' fishing boat ur getting tossed all over every time a bu, or x rolls by yano. personally i have not had any one cast but we get stares, mostly around here its the ahole jet boaters.

Lake Roachs suck. <BR> <BR>but the fishermen, you have to share the lake, wether it be skiers, fishermen, or jet skis <BR> <BR>i ride by fishermen, but i dont do double ups near them, thats my policy

Some wakeboarders have such bad ettiquite that i can see fisherman getting mad. I think everyone here has flipped off someone at some point in time on the water... know i have and so have my buddies. One is notorious for it.lol <BR> <BR>But as for them getting mad about rollers, too bad. we all pay to get on the lake and they cant say either way where we can be.

There is no need to be <font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font> to fisherman. They have just as much right to the water as we do. They might be in your riding path. But more often than not other boaters see fishers in the cove so they just don't go down them. Most fishers around here don't seem to mind wakeboarders, more of enjoying it while the fishing is slow.

The fisherman on my lake are pretty cool. <BR> <BR>We cannot ski/ride before 7:30am. They fish in the lake until 7:30....when the hear the Poopra fire up and they see water coming out of the ballast overflows, they put their 150 horses to use and run for the coves. <BR> <BR>It's pretty funny. But, at least they know the score.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

I'm fine with them most of the time. The only time I'll turn around one is when they see us running the same shoreline and they pull in and start fishing right where we are. Even then we usually just mumble about them, it's when they start yelling, honking, flipping 'ol number one that they'll get a nice turn around them. <BR> <BR>Most of the time, they get near our path and our waves gently push them away from a safe distance. I'm not even sure they realize it happens most of the time and they wave and even say something if you crash. It's rare that we run into the idiot and choose to treat them to a double up.

oh, and for the record, I've never been in a negative altercation with a fisherman. <BR> <BR>Even that time when I had my boat docked up and a fisherman cast his lure around my swim deck, accidentally. I politely went down to the dock, untangled it for him....he tossed me a beer. <BR> <BR>How's that for making friends. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR> <BR>Ignorant Jet skiers are a different story.

I have two good fisherman stories. <BR> <BR>This one time, we had just stopped riding, and this fisherman buzzes our boat, at 50mph or so. This is maybe 20 feet from our boat. He turns around and proceeds to do the same thing again. This gets us really stirred up, since we had a rider in the water at the back of the boat. This fisherman heads to the (only) boat ramp, so we proceed towards the boat ramp, accompanied by another wakeboat, which happens to be friends of ours who saw the event. Needless to say, we start yelling at the old guy, 12 angry wakeboarders and one mean old fisherman. We pretend like we are calling the police on our cell phones, etc. He runs over to his truck and hastily backs the trailer in. I proceed to take photos of his license plates/boat, etc for "evidence." When he steps out of his truck there is a revolver sticking out of his pants in the back, very obvious. I got pictures of that too. Needless to say we go back and continue wakeboarding. In FL, showing a gun in that manner is equivalent to pointing at someone, and is punishable by prison time. We didn't turn him in, but never saw him at the lake again. Also, during his buzzing of the boat, he lost his hat. The other boat had picked it up, and he was a volunteer fireman in a neighboring town. <BR> <BR>Another time, I was riding with a guy who seemed to have a fair amount of experience boating. I figured it would be safe to let him drive the boat while I took a set. Naturally I fell at one point, and while starting me back up, he wasn't really paying enough attention to what was around us. There just so happened to be a fishing boat, and he passed within 30 feet or so of these guys, and literally swamped their boat with water. I threw the handle, got in the boat and immediately went over to the fishermen. I apologized several times and offered to pay for any damage that we caused. Fortunately nothing was wrong except a couple of wet guys, and they appreciated that I came over and apologized. I never took that guy who was driving on the boat again! <BR> <BR>I probably fish as much as I ride, and I know that the ski boats have no negative effect on the fishing. I can understand that some people might be annoyed by the waves, but lets face it, waves are a part of boating! As for the stereos though, be considerate.

fishermen out number wakeboarders by probably a factor of 1000 to 1. we should all try to be the best ambassadors for our sport. intentionally pissing off or antagonizing fishermen (and other boaters as well) only leads to more and more rules and regulations....AGAINST wakeboarders. you cath more bees with honey than w/bullisht. <BR>enjoy your sport, but don't do it at the expense of other boaters.

Also, we definately generally stay as far away from the fishermen as possible, unless it is really windy and we can only ride on the smooth side of the lake.

oh, but i do have a story. we were on a certain river in our area and my son was riding. suddenly i saw a tiny tiny paddle boat looking thing w/this really old couple fishing out of CHAIRS in it. i immediatly came off the throttle before i reached them and prayed my rollers would subside before they reached them. my son was like "what the heck". i was fully ready to have to jump in to save these people's lives. they got quite a scare but didn't fall out. I'm fully convinced that had i not stopped when i did, i would have either swamped their boat and sank it, or knocked them out of it. they had probably been fishing like that for decades.

we have a couple of people in the bay we ride in most often in those open kayaks. The ones where it's more of a plastic canoe that seats one. They are blue, they love to go right at the end of the bay where we turn around and lay down to sun themselves while they have a line in the water. <BR> <BR>That blue low profile boat with someone laying down on a sunny morning or evening is hard to see! They rock back and forth, but they don't seem to mind our waves at all so long as they know we've noticed them. Our run is only about 3/4 of a mile long so we go back and forth all morning with them. Funny how it doesn't bother them in the boat 6" off the water, but the guy in the dual outboard with his vest on is really upset when we go by 200' away

i get more problems with other wakeboarders who dont have any etiquite on the water

I had a fisherman in a camo boat, camo pants, and a dark green shirt completely chew me and my friends out about how we continued to drive past him so close. Hello!! You are all camo'd out...we didn't see you! Also he was under a big shade tree that hung out over the river.

I once had a fishermen move back and forth into the line we were riding in, we adjusted and he blocked it again, we adjusted again he moved back in front. For 2 hours we did this, and the lake I ride is small so we can't just stay away from him, but we did give him plenty of room, and he still just kept going into our line.

so ive had people screamin and throwing stuff at us that were fishing from shore. If they were in a boat we give them plenty of room, but if they are on shore and you are 50 yards away, waves are still goin to hit them. so after they shot us the finger a couple times, did the old salute to them by riding by them with board shorts at half staff <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0> oh yeah and the what would have been the worst one, was there were some kids that shot a bottle rocket at our boat and it landed right in front of the rider, scared us pretty good!

We have a VERY small lake with a run shaped like this \_/ that we ride in alot. For years one couple always hides behind trees and stuff in their yard to film our boat and wake. We stay the proper length from their dock but they use this footage to try and ban wakes from the lake. The same lake they use to pull grandchildren on tubes in the summer! Anyways, we stop for a year and then come back in a new boat (jetboat mind you) without any weight and wakeboard behind it for two passes before we notice the paparazzi taking photos. I wanna know how long it'll take a jetboat's wake to erode the shore line.

I was riding one evening about 60 to 70 feet from the dock line,the boat was even farther away,when all of a sudden I saw a line in front of me about head high. no sooner than I see it I feel it wrap around my neck I tossed the handle. some ja@#a$$ was fishing with a deep sea rod that had to be 15' long,and had it in a rod holder that was at the verry top of his dock.the river is mabye 200' wide through there so he had to have been trying to hit the other side. dont get me started on jet skiis'.Back in the day we used a bass boat to board behind the rope was tied to a home made pylon about 3' tall a jet ski went under the rope between the boat and the rider. when we finally chased her down all she said was "no speaka englishh"

Not a fishing story but somewhat funny anyway. <BR> <BR>Were out boarding on the river. I'm taking my set and we see these two pontoon boats going down the river side by side having a water fight. They have water guns and things of that sort - nobody is very wet... yet. As we go by them the driver, my brother, set it up perfectly and I drenched everyone on the closest boat. They didn't see it coming at all. The people on the dry pontoon boat burst into cheers as we rode away. <BR> <BR>As for the fishers - We stay away from them within reason. I'd hate to be the jerk who wrecked their day on the water just because the fishing hole they goto every day for the last 20 years happens to be in the path I've been riding for the last 2 hours. <BR> <BR>It's all about perspective.

I used to have a problem with the bass fishermen casting between my dock and my boat. I even found a few fishing weight sized chips in the gelcoat from missed casts. My solution was to anchor a big bushy tree to the bottom right where they would cast. I had a rope tied to the bush so I could pull it up and collect all their lures and jigs. I'd go out and give them a polite wave and a minute lter they would be snapping their line off and hooking up a new one. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0>..........<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0>!!!!

I've never had any problems with fishers, but if one is going to be a real jerk he can be sure to get a good spray. I've had more problems with other wakeboarders who seemingly don't know anything about being polite on the lake. I could count on one hand the number of boats on the lake who DON'T power turn to pick up their riders. That's sad considering how crowded the lake can get on the weekends.

after bieng cut off four times my brother went for a spray the fisherman then proceeded to nail my brother in the head with a FULL beer can, luckily he didn't eat it and we turned around and went for round two we didn't miss this time!!!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

Spraying fishermen may seem 'funny' at the time, but it is sure to ruin it for me when I meet that same guy and he's pissed at me when I haven't even done anything...simply because I'm a wakeboarder. We had a guy chase us down (he almost swamped his boat going across our wake) for 'driving down a narrow channel and almost swamping him'. I was afraid to stop because my boarder was 75 feet back and I didn't think I could turn around and protect him fast enough. He was on his cell calling DNR and they told him that we had just as much a right to the water as him. He was so pissed, and I had a boat full of kids, it actually caused me a lot of stress. He ended up yelling that we 'go down that channel again he'll cut our rope'. We haven't seem him again thank goodness, but being on the water is all about fun...and I was nervously looking for that boat for the next 6 months...not cool.

ya, i'm always smiling, and they always look pissed <BR>even though we aren't even by them-we try to avoid them to help them out <BR> <BR>and some times i give them a friendly wave while riding and they get more pissed or so it seems <BR> <BR>i just like to see them drive by in their sparkly boats at like 35mph and they think they're all bada$$, haha that always cracks me up

our fisherman like to sit in the middle of the most narrow part of the holler and fish and then they get made whenever our rollers rock their boat. <BR> <BR>one was fishing so close to our dock once i asked him to leave because i though he was going to hook the boat

dude, sometimes its not even the fishers, i ride in a river most of the time because its glass, its somewhat narrow, you could probobly fit three 20 ftrs bow to stern across it. anyway, theres people cruisin up the river at about five miles an hour, off to the side. i was takin a run so were doin about 25. as we go by them i decide to try a whirly, thought id get some cheers, [yes, i demand attention,...] and i fell about a boats with away from them. and they give me a dirty look! they go up to my boat while im in about 50 degree water and start yelling about throwing rollers at them! our wake is not large at all [not to complain]. its that kind of whining that bugs me.

Our lake has a small bay that is about 500 feet wide from buoy to buoy, we turned around one time pretty close to a fisherman and I carved outside the wake and skimmed my hand against the glass and my fingers caught the line, I let go real quick but I could hear him yelling, "YA GRABBED THE LINE DUMBASS" as I was riding away.

What also gets me pretty irritated how the fishermen chill in the no wake zone 10 feet from people's docks, and when you're backing your boat out of your lift, they don't move and act like you are invading their property <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/angry.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by damned04 on May 04, 2007)

we go out and barefoot in a narrow slough on the delta, it does have a sign but it so shot with .22s and shotguns its hard to read "westcoast barefooters training site" so when the fisherman stop in the middle of our run...we will idle down and tell them we are barefooting here...one guy just said "go ahead, do it at your own risk" so we proceeded to barefoot within 15 feet of him spraying him every pass, he finally took pictures and called the sheriff, when the sheriff got there they just said what does that fisherman think? its the barefoot training site! he can fish anywhere in 1000miles of waterways, and the sheriff watched us foot a few rounds and left

we have a thirty foot pontoon boat we sleep on and at like seven in the mornin when my family was sleeping, they come right up on us and start fishin. That wasnt the problem. It was when they couldnt be the slightest bit quiet when saying all kinds of bad four letter words and were insanely loud. Woke us all up, so to get even, we took our morning butter set, blasting the stereo right by them... I wonder if our stereo's bass attracts fish.

What annoys me is when they come right up to your dock and start trying to fish on your property... we have a swim area for my families many grandchildren and they always come into the swim area and fish, and when we ask them to leave and say they are to close to our dock and stuff, they get mad and act like there is no other spot on the lake to fish

I realize it is much different on a lake, but we ride on a river and we try to be very considerate and keep our distance. We had one guy that used to ride with us that always fell at the worst places where the river narrows and two or three bass boats would be hanging out. After awhile it became a joke, we knew if we saw a few fishing boats in a spot and he was riding that he was going to fall. We try to stay clear of them if we can though.

Pulled up to the only ramp open on our lake only to find a truck and trailer stuck. Instead of tying his boat off and getting his truck out the owner just leaves it and goes fishing. There were only two other fishing boats on the lake and it was butter. Talk about frustrating!!! Oh, and the owner of the truck saw us trying to launch, but just watched from across the lake. THIS DAY IT WAS THE ANGRY WAKEBOARDERS! No guns, however.

How much trouble could a paint ball gun get you in to?

ColoradoWakeAlliance, <BR>a lot. there was this video on one of those cop shows where people went around a city shooting paintballs at people and they got arrested and put in jail for like, forever.

I stay away from them and teach my kids to steer clear of them. But lets face it no fisherman likes big waves and loud tunes. And thats what we're all about.

I think that as far as people coming into our lines we drive, it is often a lack of knowlage. They probably don't realize we are intending on staying on that part of the lake, and think it won't inconvenience us to ride elsewhere.

if they realy piss you off, do a lap around them so they get hit with rollers!

If someone is fishing near your dock, could you hand some sort of string loops from your dock and sink and sink a couple too, so their hooks would get caught on it and they would lose their lurer every time? Just a thought.

OK, I fish and wakeboard. As a fishermen, I have my favorite spots to fish but if someone, be it another fishermen, wakeboarder, or anyone else for that matter is around that area, I go somewhere else. I do not feel I have as much right to that area as the person that is already there! If that is the only spot I want to fish, I would wait until there was an opportunity to fish it or not fish it at all. <BR> <BR>The same goes when I want to wakeboard or surf. I haven't had my XLV that long so I am still learning how to share a line. I will not attempt to barge in on someone and share their line until I am certain that I can do it without interfering with them whatsoever. And that would only be after I asked them if it would be OK to do so. So for now, if someone is wakeboarding in a spot that I want to wakeboard in, I just sit back at a very safe distance and watch and enjoy, while trying to learn something. <BR> <BR>The bottom line is that I don't like jerks and I try very hard not to be one. <BR> <BR>Last summer, while in my fishing boat, my wife and a couple of our friends were going down the middle of a wide fork (maybe 100 yards wide) at about 10 mph. This wakeboard boat comes up from behind on the right side and passes us. They proceed ahead of us and make a big turn to the left in front of us at the bridge at the end of the fork and start going the other direction on the other side, all without slowing down. While I don't really see a huge problem with this (other than the fact that this is on a 9,000 acre lake that was all glass that day), the end result was that the wake from the right, left, and in front of us all converged at the bow of my small fishing boat. We had about 3 inches of water in the bottom of the boat and it ruined 2 cell phones. If I was a better boat driver, could I have taken the waves on better without taking on water? Maybe, but I don't really think so. My point in this story is just to say that I believe had I been the driver of the wakeboard boat, I have to believe that I 1) would not be wakeboarding in that fork (no one else does because there are so many other better spots), 2) would have stopped to let the fishing boat pass and then start back up the other direction. <BR> <BR>Anyway, not trying to change anything anyone else does. Just sharing my approach.

We had one today driving so close that he would have ran over me had I fell. And we did nothing to make him mad. He just came right up behind os.

Bass boat you know the ones that kind that looks like a floating dock with a motor on the back. Real low profile type. Anyways he was fish along the shore and we were far from him, but we were wakesurfing. The wakesurfer fell and we went to pick him up. As we were setting up to go again we watched as the huge rollers finally reach the Bass boat and the fisherman was not looking at the rollers that caught him by surprise. Anyways he almost fell into the lake and half way fell to his butt. He turned right away and looked at us, but I think he was embaressed and kinda acted as if it was not big deal and kept fishing. This time he was now facing us to watch for rollers. We all laughed about that for a while.

We had one this past weekend sitting in his little bass boat right next to the channel under the bridge. Man, I can't imagine boating on something that is a hundred yards wide or even less! I have the priviledge of boating on the Columbia River and now I understand how much of a privilege that is! <BR> <BR>Shawn

had to tell another dip$#it in a pontoon boat to get out of the way on sunday. i know its early but it seems like there is more wallies out this year.

At my lake when ever fishermen come real close to our dock and throw lines under it. I get in my boat and fill it with around 3,000 pounds in fat sacks, go hunt him down and drive by a couple times so his boat starts a rocken.

some fishermen put a lot of trout lines in where some of the best riding is on the lake. its right next to a long cliff so it is always glass. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/angry.gif" border=0>

On the lake I've been riding at for 6 years, and one day not to many people were on the lake and my driver turned around just inside of the no wake zone. Some angry guys come chase us, so we stop the boat. He asked us if doing that was worth our boat, then looked at me and asked if it was worth my life. After that they took off, keep in mind I'm sitting in the water while this happens.
