i am leaving on a trip to orlando on the 20th of this month. Wife is looking for a job and i am going to be looking for houses. i don't know anything about the area besides its WARM. Any suggestions would really help. Of course near a lake that is not allways jammed with people. her job is in Orlando but we are willing to drive a good ways to work for some butter on our days off. Probally 45 minutes or so. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

tyerone44 02-06-2004 12:16 AM

my luck is that i will buy a house right in the ghetto and not even know it

I like Deltona. Its a nice quiet area with a few lakes outside Orlando about 40 minutes. Right smack in between Orlando and Daytona.
wakeguru 02-06-2004 5:31 AM

What's your price range, Tye?

tparider 02-06-2004 8:02 AM

you will be happy that you made the move - it's 80 here right now and it's 11am.

emoney 02-06-2004 9:01 AM

Hey Tye where did you live in Ohio?

melanie 02-06-2004 9:26 AM

I'm not Tye but I used to live in Cleveland

*just in case you were needing to know that*

emoney 02-06-2004 9:51 AM

Cleveland, I live in Youngstown, just thought I would ask...Thanks

tyerone44 02-06-2004 10:09 AM

I still live in the akron area for now. price range of a house is up to 125 thousand. I have been on the net looking and there seems to be alot of houses that are lakefront propreties but i don't know if they consider a pond a lake. thanks for any help

wakeguru 02-06-2004 10:28 AM

It will usually always say "ski" lake because that is the #1 selling point in most instances.

The cheapest I've seen is about $150K for a skiable lake anywhere within the greater Orlando area. If you can qualify for $125K though, $150K doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

I noticed you posted at 3am EST. Are you serious? If so, I might be able to help a little further.

tyerone44 02-06-2004 2:26 PM

oh yea i'm serious we will be down there on lthe 20th of this month and there is no way I am staying in Ohio for another dreadful winter. I have looked at some houses in Delatona, like someone suggested. There seems to be alot of nice houses for under 125. that is by the picture they show you. Seriously, any help would be awesome. I don't want to go down there and be looking in the wrong places. Good resale value is important to us also. A pull when we are down there would be sweet. Me and my wife both arn't very good but we love to be on the water. Thanks
deltona is a pretty decent drive from orlando. however then you could live by david which is a big plus.

david, you bragged about the weather, were you out riding today? I know that I was! trunks!

tparider 02-06-2004 5:34 PM

Didn't get to ride today, but rode on Wednesday early afternoon - trunks too!

Deltona is a nasty drive into Orlando, especially M-F. Beware that Bike week is close to the time you're coming out here too.
What kind of job does your wife want or do?
There aren't very many nice houses on the lake for 125 or under.....from my research in the greater orlando area you won't find a house anywhere near 125k on a lake. It's more into the 250+++ range. But you can rent an apartment/condo/townhouse on a lake.

(Message edited by phantom5815 on February 06, 2004)

my wife is a nurse but i will be going to school in Orlando. Is it a nasty drive because of the traffic or what? Can't live in a townhouse, We have two dogs that need some space. What do I want to stay away from on bike week? David I did find some nice houses in Deltona. Any other suggestions as far as towns are concerned. I will be definiatlly looking at some houses in Deltona area. Thanks alot.

The traffic is horrendous on I-4 which is pretty much the connection from Deltona to Orlando. There are tolls roads though.
Bike week is in Daytona which is 28 miles from Deltona/Orange City. Starts about the last weekend in Feb- 1st weekend in March. ( Someone correct me on this)
BTW Tampa is on the West Coast and Deltona is on the East coast of Central FL.....and there's a whole lotta road in between there

Will your wife be working in a Hospital or clinic? Does she specialize and how many years experience does she have?
The pay for Nursing in Central FL can be crappy.
If your wife plays her cards right, she should sign on as a Traveler ( that's if she hasn't already). That way you can try and fanagle some of your relocation & cost of housing.
Where in Orlando will you be attending school?
You might want to look into areas like Longwood/Altamonte Springs/Maitland/Winter Park.
Heathrow and Lake Mary are other up and coming areas between Orlando and Deltona.
I live in Maitland and will be relocating to Longwood for at least the next year.
Sorry for the long post....I work in various hospital ORs throughout Central Florida ( from Deltona/Orange City all the way down to Osceola/Kissimmee -land of Mickey)
BTW- Tampa is on the West Coast and Deltona is close to the East coast of Central FL.....and that's a whole lotta roadin between there

(Message edited by phantom5815 on February 07, 2004)

I ahv ebeen looking in the Seminole county area and it seems to be very nice. She was going to work at Flordia hospotal Medical Hospital. She works in the er now but only has 1 year exp.She dosn't want to go agency because she feels that the other nurses will not be nice and she dosn't want to screw up anything. If I lived in Longwood or somewhere in that area is there some nice lakes to ski on? How about the Geneva area? Or is that to far out there? Or Sanford? I will be going to school for Radiology behind the hospital. I really don't know anywhere else that offers that program through any hospitals. What do you think about going agency with only 1 year exp? Should I look to go south near Kissemmee or stay up north? Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it. Do you keep your boat at your house or at a lake? Just wondering what to do with mine. as far as money is concerened. tow it or keep it in the water. Sorry for all the questions.

phantom5815 02-08-2004 5:56 PM

Tye- Don't own a boat and I pretty much just been too busy to ride except for OWC. Sorry I can't tell you too much about the waters, but Lake Minehaha (sp) ( yes it's a real lake) is near Winter Park.
I'm assuming it's FLH- South Campus, which is close to Winter Park. Majority of the Hospitals in Central FL are either Adventist ( Florida -10 affliliates) or ORS which has the Level 1Trauma Center(Orlando Regional Healthcare system-7).
Traveling isn't the route to go especially if you only have 1yr under your belt. She will get worked like a dog too. Most of the surgeons are pretty cool ( most not ALL)
If you want , I could hook up with you and your wife this weekend. I just have to make some rounds in the Mornings and then show you some areas if you're not too familar.
You don't want to go down to Kissimmee, you definitely want to be near the hospital, especially if you have dogs, are in school and with the wife working ER hours.
Shoot me a PM
