yes it is another "what board" thread but I really need some help here. time is running out and I can't make up my mind. Charlotte Boat show is this weekend and i'm travelin home to hopefully find a deal on a new deck.

I'm 22, 170 something, 5'9 and a advanced rider. i ride a 137 byerly and want a similar big 3-stage boot but without the sluggish sloweness. I also want a loose board and I would preferably like to get off hyperlite's nutz since i've been ridin there boards for my entire wake history.

Choices narrowed down to basically :substance, Premiere, Absolute, Gonzalez/caddy/harris,era and am open to others. something not too fast nor grippy.

p.s. I ride behind a 210Super with a steep wake.

please help! I would like to be walking into this show knowing what I want and not end up getting a board I don't want just bc I got a deal on it.

I rode a Substance for the first time a couple weeks ago and LOVED it. I normally ride the Absolute. The pop was big like the Absolute but the Sustance did ride slightly tighter which I'm starting to like. The trade off was the Substance felt faster than the Absolute to me. In my experience, both of these boards pop harder and ride faster than the Era. I haven't tried the new Premier, or any GBs.

My 05' Absolute Plat as great Pop. What does it mean when a board rides tighter?

jarrod 02-02-2005 12:22 PM

"Tighter," Means it wasn't quite as loose.

antbug 02-02-2005 12:34 PM

J~rod ~ he must be a kid not knowing what tight and loose means

(Message edited by antbug on February 02, 2005)

jarrod 02-02-2005 12:58 PM

HAHA! True dat.

Think Mary-Kate & Ashley, and Pamela Anderson

antbug 02-02-2005 1:05 PM

i've never heard "premier" and "fast" used in the same sentence when describing that board, especially when comparing it to the era. the era is a pretty slow board, and everyone that's ridden the premier said it's slower than the era.

jarrod 02-02-2005 1:15 PM

"everyone that's ridden the premier said it's slower than the era. "

True

kevin_bird 02-02-2005 1:26 PM

I think the premier 135 rides like A 137 i think it is a great shape the era is also. It is kind of dificult to ask people you dont know because everyone has a different riding style and also all boards feel different than others. Some say the premier is sluggish and slow others say its not slow and they love it. The fact of the matter is that they are all great boards.

so substance sounds the way to go. 134 with 05 ultras will be sick
or the new transits
jarrod 02-02-2005 3:17 PM

I would go with the 138 if I were you. 134 is tiny for you!

guido 02-02-2005 3:26 PM

agreed... Go for the 138. I have ridden all the of the boards that you are considering and really like the Substance. Hopefully you will too. Go with the Transits and you'll be riding the same setup as me. They are sick and really easy to get in and out of, especially compared to the ultras.

twakess 02-02-2005 3:38 PM

Ringo I would try to demo it before you purchase a board what works for others might not work for you, also J-rod and Evan I rode the substance all last year. But now I have been riding the fish you should give it a try. Its faster to the wake than the substance and has a bigger pop. Landings are also soft. Also if you like to spin then you will love it.

ryan26 02-02-2005 6:21 PM

get the harris

gdillyfunk69 02-02-2005 6:29 PM

100% youh shoulhd go with 2005 Absolute Platinum... incrdible.... if you love the byerly youh will go crazy for the absolute platy

andy_nintzel 02-02-2005 8:17 PM

spam!

Buy an Obrien Player

spam!

dakid 02-02-2005 8:41 PM

andy, that's not spam. what you're doing is suggesting a board on a thread asking for suggestions.

spam looks a little like this;
http://getyourfreeipodhere.sucker

Squid: how's the edge hold on the fish? I was checking it out at the show. That thing has no edge at all. It's almost as round as the old HO Skurfer (slight exaggeration of course)! The LF rep said "The fish is a awesome board for spinning, but you wouldn't want to go out and try to learn raleys on it." He too agreed that it lacks edge. I do like the big spine in the center though.

hymaeringo 02-06-2005 3:15 PM

i got an 04 substance($235) with 05 transits($260)
