i've got a black rig and have been pretty happy with mcguires, but have been tempted to try something else. i'm starting to get a few swirls. usually i can get them out with mcguires polish, but have wondered if there's something better. i went to autozone today and saw zymol has a sticker on it that says #1 polish. is that a good brand? what's the BEST money no object polish and/or wax? no necessarily marine use

tanner 08-20-2006 5:58 PM

Zymol's good, but kind of expensive compared to the results. Zaino's probably the best wax around, bar none.

If your getting swirls you might try taking some 3M "finesse it" polish and buff out your gelcoat. Then when your done w/ that, you can come back on top of that w/ a wax.

Zaino. Period.

only available on their website.

www.zainobros.com (I think that's it)

But be prepared to drop $100 to do it right.

Zaino is overpriced/overrated.... Hit up your local harley shop and pick up some p100... badass wax and its cheap

I use Menzerna polishes for my vehicles and boat. Check 'em here:
http://www.properautocare.com/prnewgelcofi.html

Here's a link to the site that turned me on to Menzerna products
http://paintcare-n-detailing.com/

This thread inspired me to shine up the boat! It took me about 4 hours, but was well worth it as this is the nicest it has ever looked... here's what I did:

1. Wipe down entire boat with 50/50 water vinegar mixture
2. Apply Meguiars marine/rv polish by hand with terrycloth pad; remove with towel
3. Apply Meguiars marine/rv pure wax by hand with terrycloth pad; remove with towel

Here are some pics

ps100 is a motor cycle wax and like he said get it from a Harley dealer. It is the same as the car polish but half the cost. It is not a wax though it is a carnauba wax which means it will shine like hell but wont last long.

I use four star on all my cars. You can order it online. It is a really good wax and is really easy to put on and take off. You can layer it as well. I also got there polisher cleaner which you put on first. Zano is a nice wax but it is really over priced and in my opinion not worth it. Unless you have tons of money to drop on a wax that you have to put on all the time.

Here is one site you can get it from.
http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl

I did a bunch of research on wax a while back and this is what lots of people recommended.

(Message edited by crghou on August 21, 2006)

What about Driven, has anyone ever used that product?

socaldave 08-21-2006 2:46 PM

Douglas, I use the Quick Spray Concentrate from Driven and am very happy with the results. A $20 bottle of their concentrate (16 0z.) makes about 4 full size spray bottles worth of solution (4 oz. of product plus purified water). Wipes on very easy, takes out water spots and grime. Perfect for the end of the day or after a few days on the water.

www.driventoperfection.com

Upnorth. We've been using our boat so much that I haven't touched it for a couple of months. We have a lot of water spots and such. Will the vinegar and water solution take off the water stains and grime or am i going to need to get some specialized marine products for that? Thanks, by the way your boat looks sick!

brucemac 08-21-2006 6:43 PM

up north, looking good man. lucky duck.

wakeslife 08-21-2006 9:07 PM

Les- Definately give the vinegar and water a shot. I really don't clean up our boat that often, and it has sat in the water in a slip for 3 weeks at a time, several times. The vinegar and water got all the waterspots off, which can be pretty bad on the black gel, and got the scum-line from the water off as well. I have probably wiped down the boat with that mixture about 4 times this season, and this is the first polish/wax for the X1.

Bruce- no need for the compliment; thank YOU for the thread that made me get off my butt and shine her up

(Message edited by wakeslife on August 21, 2006)

will that vinegar/water solution get waterspots out of glass also? I have some really bad water spots on my tahoe and on my grandpa's boat windows. Thanks.
