Supra Rudder Stuck in Housing
Hey guys, any of you ever removed a rudder from one of the newer model boats? Just discovered the other day that the rudder is cracked on my 08 24SSV so it needs to be removed, but it won't come out of the housing. The steering arm was removed completely (along with the bolt) but the key is stuck in the rudder shaft and a few good taps with a hammer on the rudder shaft didn't even anything. Any of you done this before?

Take ATF and acetone, mix it 50/50 and spray on it a few times a day for a couple of days. Then get a brass block or hammer and beat on it. I'm guessing you can get to the top of the shaft and drive it down?

Once you do get it off, put never seize on the new one before installing it.

Yep, can get to the top of it, not the easiest area to get to but luxury compared to most parts of a v-drive. Would using PB blaster accomplish the same thing? Or is the ATF better because of dissimilar metals/other reasons?

ATF/acetone is the best thing I've ever used.
Here's a interesting comparison. http://www.cyclefish.com/forum/The-G...-132611-1.html |
