Dean Smith Blast off!

I watched this vid like ten times, mainly Dean's section. WOW is all I can say, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite riders to watch, he goes so HUGE!!!! He might be the backside spin master right now. Check out the 3 minute mark to see what I am talking about, holy line tension control!!!!! Not to mention the backside 7 straight out the gates into the flats!!! Heck he only does 2 wake to wake trick the whole time!

lfrider139 06-02-2010 9:17 AM

damnnnnn that was a ridiculous hs late back 3

wake77 06-02-2010 9:18 AM

Dean kills it.

jarrod 06-02-2010 10:38 AM

Dean is the man. His riding looks like no one elses.

pierce_bronkite 06-02-2010 11:18 AM

Does that guy get altitude sickness?! Damn!

tinytdubb 06-02-2010 3:17 PM

That late BS 3 @ 3:00 was ridiculous.

gene3x 06-02-2010 4:28 PM

I like how at 2:31 he shakes his head in disapointment at just a roll to blind. lol

shredsthegnar 06-02-2010 5:35 PM

wow ive never seen anyone go that big so many times in a row he prbly slept for three days after that set.

jason95gt 06-02-2010 6:59 PM

Blast off is an understatement! He GOES HUGE! Is 3 at 3:00 is completely crazy. Also very impressive to see him do almost every trick switch too. Amazing rider. Shapiro still back in the house.

mvanhove 06-02-2010 9:26 PM

That late 3 is one of the coolest things i've seen in a while.

Was down in Australia hanging with some mates in Feb and got to go out and watch him do a photo shoot for wake mag, dude is unreal as you all know.
Here's one shot I took.

jarrod 06-03-2010 7:06 AM

That picture is amazing.

I've driven for him. Even more amazing from the boat.

txwakerider14 06-03-2010 7:33 AM

I wish people ride like this, hard charging every hit very reminiscent of Shapiro's style and approach

scbrips 06-03-2010 10:09 AM

Holy sh*t! All of the riding was sick but Dean's set was insane. He threw down a Slim Chance AND a Fat Chance. So crazy. Backside 7 was dirty. Loved the poked out Melan FS 3. Almost every trick was gigantic. That was insane.

jeff_mn 06-03-2010 10:34 AM

I dont care about how many 10's people spin or Mobe this or Hoochie that - Dean Smith is the most exciting rider in wakeboarding to watch..

He goes huge EVERY trick..

txwakerider14 06-03-2010 11:55 AM

Quick Poll: What would rather see someone throw down a super tech trick like a 10 or mobe 7 or Some do a ridiculous huge styley trick like deans stall bs 3 or Huge indy late moby dick type trip?

jarrod 06-03-2010 12:12 PM

Both

jarrod 06-03-2010 12:12 PM

Dean has tech too. He still owns the biggest handle pass KGB 5 in the business.

liquidmx 06-03-2010 12:46 PM

Brian there seem to be two schools of thoughts on wakeboarding...one is that its a "skills" competition where the deepest hardest trick bag wins (Soven, etc.). The other is that its an artistic form of expression where there is no "right way" and your riding is limited to you and your imagination (Randall, Benny G).

IMHO its important for the sport to have both, each pushes the level in different directions and ultimately the two ideals often meet in the middle somewhere.

txwakerider14 06-03-2010 2:22 PM

Even if wakeboarding is a skills competition you have to take into account the skill it takes to control your board and hold your board posistion in a tweaked out grab then land blind 15ft. into the flats, because I know me personally a lot of more technical tricks are easier to land and are more consistent tricks for me rather than big styled out lesser tricks into the flats. for example I will land 7 or 8 out of 10 bs 5 w2w, but maybe 4 or 5 out of 10 when I take a bs 1 big and into the flats.

hyperlite 06-04-2010 4:30 AM

I love Deans style. Dont really see him fall much, but when he does he makes it count. i.e. global warning.

jarrod 06-04-2010 5:38 AM

Yep...he takes some good ones. I was at the helm for his back 5 crash in GW. Laid on the swim step for probably 5 minutes.

andy_nintzel 06-04-2010 6:08 AM

There was a liquid circus video out a while back that showed him taking a beating!

morgs 06-07-2010 1:05 AM

Dean is straight up killing it as usual. Sick riding mate!

I have to say it, Deans style of late is reminding me of Mark Kenney (RIP). Raley cut with pretty much everything, going massive and waaay out into the flats (purely my opinion only).

Side note - any comments on Chad's riding in this video? He is throwing down big time and going huge also. Nice work Chad.

Any reason why the clip is now private on Vimeo?

hyperlite 06-07-2010 4:15 AM

i saw that too

petrey10 06-07-2010 8:42 AM

holy cow man... do these guys ever crash?? if so I don't know how they are alive those are fast and high.... dang

wake77 06-07-2010 9:22 AM

Chad is always ripping it.

liquidmx 06-07-2010 10:04 AM

Yah Chad is just quietly doing his thing, always shredding hard.

blindmnkee3 06-07-2010 11:25 PM

Not a single wake-to-wake jump in that entire section, everything was bombing out into the flats....unreal....
