looking for other female boarders who are just down to board. none of my friends do it, i just started, been progressing pretty quickly *never did watersports due to phobia of water got dunked under by a huge wave when little almost drowned* been 3 times, can grind, get out heelside, toeside, 180 back in,carv learning to ride switch, one handed and bunny hoppin'. just ordered a hyperlite essence 131, using husbands old board now, a hyperlite 137? or maybe its a 139,Fluid.. anyway, WAY to big for me to get any kind of air, BEEN trying really hard. I'm only 5 feet tall and 102 pounds. gonna demo a 131 from watersports west *jon and steve* this weekend. only been on lake seminole with Al, Action watersports. I'm hooked now and would like to find a girl / girls who board who are at my skill level or preferrably better *so I can set some realistic goals* been just setting them for myself each time we go out, ..got up first time, carved a little, got feel for board, water, grinded *on accident* but still did it! second time went out toeside got back in, did some jumping of wake, landed nothing till last run, third time set goal to get out heelside, get back in , did a few 180's smaller board help me get more air?? next goal, clear wake..perfect all the stuff i know now..anyway, husband has been boarding for a couple of years, but he is a boy and does all kinds of flippity doo daas and he totally motivates me, have always hung out with mainly guys *up in Indiana* but would love to have a few girls to do this sport with..good to gauge your progress with the same sex..I would go everyday if I could,,I am in love with it!
angi
www.angisimpson.com
www.420empire.com

Well, I'm from St.Pete, Live in Indiana, and will be down there, with my wife, for two weeks in mid-August(honeymoon). She rides alot and has been for 3 years or so.
We're hoping to hook up some rides while down there and she wants to ride with some girls. We're planning on going by Action Watersports while there also. But we're not bringing the boat and will gladly pay for pulls.

wakejunkeygirl 06-12-2003 1:10 PM

Hey! we are originally from Indiana...My husband and I...now WE are in St. Pete...Yeah, we ussually just pay Al at Action W.S. It's the easiest way for us..*no cleanup time* just pay and ride...long as you like..sounds kool...Check out our websites, I think there may be some footage or photos of Jake *husband* boarding,,mine should posted up there soon..like I said, tomorrow will be my fourth time, but I dream wakeboarding every nite now!
ripr 06-12-2003 1:53 PM

Small world I guess! Where in Indiana are you from? Your sites look great, stay stoked on boarding and push yourself. Looks like we'll only be in St.Pete/Clearwater for 2 or 3 days, the rest in Orlando and Ft. Meyers...I know Melissa would like to ride with some other chicks. Maybe we'll see you guys around Action W.S. Later on....

timmy 06-12-2003 2:56 PM

I am from indiana as well. but a boilermaker not a hoosier. regardless, there are some ladies that ride with me often that rip. oh yeah i'm in gainesville, 2 hr from st pete.

simba 06-12-2003 4:14 PM

your going to love the essense board. My wife learned on my 142 byerly and did OK for about 3 mins then she would face plant, and I mean just about everytime, could have been the Xlarge bindings or the big board.

She has yet to crash AT ALL on the essense and she rides until shes just too tired. Shes now getting about 2 feet air. I cant say enough how much the proper board/bindings helped her.

wakejunkeygirl 06-13-2003 7:10 AM

*Simba* very kool, I already have my bindings..but the board was on backorder..see, I was woried about the exact opposite happening, like I am riding such a bigger board to start with a ..shall we say ...Cadillac,,,then I am going to be moving to a much smaller surface are board which I'll call a Porsche..'cuz I have been doing really good on my husbands old board..so I guess I'll just have to get a feel for the board...
*timmy*..yeah, I thought I saw one of your pix where you had a Purdue shirt on...I was smack dab in the center ..I lived in Center Grove/Greenwood/Indianapolis area...
*naw* thanks *site looks great*..420 empire is still a work in progress, and we are constantly updating mine, should be some wake video of me upl soon..see angi in action!
in fact we are going today...gotta go,,gotta call Al..
love2ride 06-13-2003 10:53 AM

Angi & NAW..you guys should check out Extreme Wakeboard School. One of the instructors is a girl & she is really cool & she rips! Me & a bunch of friends have been there & we loved it. Jon & Steve know the instructors well & will highly recommend them. The website is www.extremewakeboardschool.com It's over by Tampa.

suzieq 06-16-2003 12:26 PM

Angi,

I live and ride in St. Pete. Don't make it out to Seminole much b/c it's kinda gross, but was there last week. We usually ride during the week b/c the weekends are so crowded. What is your schedule like?

wakejunkeygirl 06-16-2003 3:58 PM

Suzie,

hey, I work tuesday thru saturday, but I am my own boss, so I can tweak my schedule around. I am always off on mondays and wednesdays are my late nites during the summer. thursdays I am off by 3 or 3:30 at the latest. Yeah, the lake is ickky, but since we don't own a boat, we just call and make appointments with Al and use his boat rental on seminole. i have never been in the gulf/bay, but totally would not be opposed to riding there. Is it any different? My husband and I just went saturday at Seminole. we went out at around 6:30. I think we are going tomorrow too, Tuesday, after I get off work, probably around 6-ish again. Where do you guys normally go? Do you have a boat or do you ride with others?

suzieq 06-18-2003 6:08 AM

Hey Angi,

Sorry for the late response. We went out yesterday in the salt water but we each (4 of us) only got to ride once b/c of the weather. The water was awesome though. There are 3 boats amongst the group we ride with so we alternate our boats. We probably won't be going out again until Friday.

I personally like the salt water better just because Lake Seminole is so gross and polluted. Also, I never think about sharks/etc. in salt water but constantly think about alligators in the fresh? I grew up on the salt water so that's probably why. Fresh is definitely easier as far as cleaning up the boat and gear and not feeling sticky from the salt but there is just something about being in the salt water I like better. Also, if it is choppy on the lake you are usually screwed for riding but no matter where the wind is coming from on salt water you can usually find a calm area to ride (I say usually because recently this has not been true)

Anyways, let me know what your guys plans are for the weekend. Hopefully we can get some riding in together BTW, I live pretty close to your salon and pass it all the time! Talk to you soon

Suzie

wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 8:37 AM

hey girl..that sounds really kool..I am off Friday at 4 and Saturday at 2. I definately want to go this weekend. we went last nite to seminole and last week when we were packing up, we saw a GATOR swimming to the middle,,,kinda freaked me out..then Al told me yesterday that he had a kid tubing out there and he thinks he hit one with the boat..that scared the crap out of me, cuz i was like, wait a minute, he didnt MOVE when he heard the boat??? so the whole time i rode like doo-doo, cuz i was "gator watching".. i was so mad at myself last nite cuz i felt like i rode so bad..my mind was just not on the board,,it was on the gators!!! i would love to try salt water..
i posted a thread under wakeboarding..check it out and see if you have any answers for me, being a girl and all..this 131 and me are not getting along as well as the 137...i feel like i was better my first 3 times i went...i know i am still learning the 131 , but i dont want to go BACKWARDS!!! my husband says it takes a while to learn your board, get the feel for it, but i got a little frustrated yesterday...maybe it was the gator thing, or maybe i just need to see how other girls do it..its hard to gauge yourself by boys,,,specially since i have only been 5 times.and jake has been for 2 years!
do you guys go out early on the weekend?? next friday i have completely off..and next saturday off at 2 again..
if you guys wouldnt mind and there is room for a beginner *and husband* we can do gas money or whatever is needed..i would love to see some good "girl boarding", i have yet to see any board..yesterday a girl did go out after us, but we were there for 20 minutes and she never got up..anyway, let me know some times you go or sunday too, cuz we are off on sun. and if there would be room..
my number is on my website in the contact section.
www.angisimpson.com
or stop in anytime..i'll give you my business card.
hope to meet ya soon!
angi

(Message edited by wakejunkeygirl on June 18, 2003)

minty_fresh 06-18-2003 9:23 AM

My girlfriend and I (she also has an 03 Essence) board on Lake Gibson in Lakeland...but we'd probably be down for some traveling, to hook up with some new riders!!! I'm actually going to Watersports West today...John is a cool guy, he got me all set up with my new board last Friday! Probably won't be able to do anything for a couple weeks, really busy...but come July it's all about hittin' the wake! LOL

timmy 06-18-2003 9:40 AM

i am planning on sat & sun here in the gainesville area. 02 wakesetter lxi with bumpin system. let me know if you wanna go.

wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 9:44 AM

*hey, i didnt get any response posted* thought maybe you guys could help...*..
timmy, suzie, naw...
original post:
hey guys,,i posted b 4 when i was still riding my husbands 137 fluid, right now i am demo-ing a hyperlite, juvi 131. till my essence comes in. the problem i am having is , and maybe this is just "how it is"..i feel like if i am not constantly edging, the board is sliding all around under my feet, like i have absolutely no control. it is definately different riding this smaller board, on the 137 getting up was like piece of cake, this takes a little more "butt on the water before i stand up" work.. i am a female who weighs 102 - 104 pounds..4'11" tall and have ridden a total of 5 times. I guess my question is this : is this normal for this size board? is it just going to take some getting used to since i was riding on a board that had so much larger surface area?? has anyone else experienced this "glassy sliding on the water fish-tailing"??? please any input would be appreciated..because i can still demo a bigger board if need be..i have not purchased it yet, just the bindings. oh and by the way, the 131 is much better for my carving and i can get way more air...but just the sliding riding is bothering me...??? what gives?
help a girl out.
wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 9:47 AM

timmy, thanks for the offer, how far away is gainesville?? from st. pete?
angi

timmy 06-18-2003 11:27 AM

the juvi has a relatively flat bottom, no channels or anything to help stabilize the board. this is what allows it to slide around. to keep the board stable think about keeping on your edge most of the time. also, pushing your hips forward and keeping your knees bent (and keeping relaxed) also helps stabilize the board.

gainesville is about 2 hr from st pete. off of I-75 the lake we go to is about 25 minutes east of town. If you are up for the car time, you guys are more than welcome to come out.

minty_fresh 06-18-2003 1:25 PM

Yeah Angi...also if you guys ever wanna roll on over toward Lakeland, and ride with us...Lake Gibson rocks, it's a really really big, nice private lake. We were thinking of planning a big Wakeboard BBQ or something this summer...and invite a lot of the locals. Get to meet some new people in the process.

aquaholic 06-18-2003 1:41 PM

Angi, you may want to try a larger fin also if you're sliding around alot. You can downsize later after you get more experience. I would think that board should be about right for your size. You'll have a good time if you go out with Suzy, she's a pretty good rider.

wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 3:30 PM

the juvi has a pretty big fin already,,but this is just the demo board, will the essence be much different?? shape i mean??
oh and check out
www.420production.com
its still under construction, its one of my husbands sites and it has a sick wakeboarding video on it.

(Message edited by wakejunkeygirl on June 18, 2003)

wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 3:59 PM

mike,
i just checked the fin again,,yeah, its pretty damn big, i mean if this board gets turned upside down in the gulf,,,people might scream "shark siting"..ok, its NOT THAT big, but i dont even know if they have bigger ones? i just checked out a pic of the Essence, which is still not in yet, and it looks a little different on the bottom.. like maybe some channels? i dont know this is all still new to me,,but i am still loving it! face plants, water in the ears, all of it..its SO worth it..!

*oh and needless to say, we did NOT get to go wakeboarding today,,,hence all the postings..*
just did my balance board to curb my appetite! LOL
timmy 06-18-2003 4:19 PM

angi, that is a cool vid of your man! very impressive to do all that in that choppy looking water. (I am very spoiled by the conditions up here) http://www.djtimmy.com/wakeboarding/5_26_03/butta_5_26.JPG is a good example of what we have to deal with.

can't wait to see the butta tomorrow at 8am!!!!

wakejunkeygirl 06-18-2003 5:23 PM

wow! NICE....lucky
8 am...do some runs for me!!!

oldschool 06-19-2003 5:54 AM

The Juvi and the Essence are exactly the same. I used to have the Juvi 131 (I am 6'1" tall). It rode good for me. I like to spin, so it spins fast. I compared the Juvi to Suzie's Essence once and there was no difference. I like smaller boards, but they don't pop out of the water like the big ones.

Angi, you and your husband down for riding with Suzie and the rest of the St. Pete group on Friday or possibly Sunday morning?

wakejunkeygirl 06-19-2003 5:54 AM

suzie,

I work today *thursday* till 3pm...I'll check the board when I get home from the gym...let me know if you guys are doing anything this weekend..We have not made any plans with Al yet..
***my essence still isnt in!!***

wakejunkeygirl 06-19-2003 6:09 AM

oh hey craig...I didnt even see your post the first time..DUHHH, stoney moment..Yeah, but friday i work during the day... till 2 sunday off, what time we talking? let me know..I told jake yesterday I had been talking to some people on the board and he was like kool..for some reason his sinuses get blown out evertime we go to lake seminole?? bacteria maybe??
I'll call jon at watersporsts west to see if my board is in yet,,what does suzie ride? an essence 131? yeah, i would think the spinning will be good once i am more experienced...i just have to keep telling myself, "you have only been five times"...

anyway craig, let me know...times and place a stuff...how many people go out..?? ill be on here after 3 -ish..
thanks!

oldschool 06-19-2003 7:40 AM

I am sure Suzie will be posting on here soon.

Anyway, she has the Essence 131. It's the first year board though, I think a 2000. It hasn't changed though.

Your husband can ride, good god! I downloaded the video from his site. He has the blind landings down. He probably has sinus problems from the lake. We all get that from there.

We'll probably go Friday around 6pm. Then Sunday we can go early, like 9am maybe. We ride right out of Maximo park. Maximo is the last exit on I-275 S, right before the Skyway bridge. Usually we have 4-5 people on the boat: Mike, Bruce, Me & Suzie. You guys are welcome to come along. Does Jake ride a wakeskate? That's what I have been doing most lately. Wrecks aren't as bad.

suzieq 06-19-2003 8:47 AM

angi,

hey there. since craig didn't tell you, he's my husband. yeah, i have an essence w/ small bindings so if yours isn't in by the time we go, you can ride my board. i'll write you an email w/ our phone numbers so we can talk about plans.

suzie

wakejunkeygirl 06-21-2003 1:13 PM

hey guys, I just picked up my 03-Essence 131 last nite...from watersports west,,jon said there was another guy from the board in and bought his girl one the day before!! i love it , she looks like she is gonna ride great, but who KNOWS with all this RAIN!?

minty_fresh 06-21-2003 1:52 PM

Yeah Angi...that was me! I just bought my girl the Essence. Jon said you were coming in to get yours that day, so I hung out for a bit to meet ya! But guess you didn't make it...anyway the Essence is awesome...I told Roxy that I'm jealous, cuz here board looks better than my Belmont!!! LOL ;)
Yeah the rain sucks!!! 4 days straight now...without much let up til Monday it looks like! GRRRR
timmy 06-21-2003 4:33 PM

Why would u do that to fellow boarders? I got my board set up in the living room with video tape of me out on the lake last week, having jake throw buckets of water on me..standing on my board pretending to ride..

timmy 06-21-2003 5:29 PM

it is supposed to lure you all to come up and share in the beautiful water.

aquaholic 06-21-2003 5:39 PM

Tim, I might have to take you up on that one of these days! Looks pretty sweet up there.

Did manage to get out this morning for a couple sets here before the rain. Tomorrow may be ok.

minty_fresh 06-21-2003 8:57 PM

Yeah...Angi...y'all should roll on over some time. We're planning on a new tower for the boat, should be ready by July! And Roxy is gonna slap some stickers on her's (Roxy stickers - Quicksilver brand LOL), so you should be able to tell them apart!
I love Watersports West....Jon and the crew there are soooooo cool!!! There's closer places to me, but they rock!!! I'm staying loyal to them for sure! I'll be heading back up there next week for some more gear....maybe I'll see ya! LOL
wakejunkeygirl 06-22-2003 6:29 AM

mike...your g/f's name is really Roxy? that is so kool. Yeah, all of Jakes friends keep saying how "hot" the chick on my board is...anyway, its stillllllll raining..no go on boarding this morning..we are gonna shoot for noon..keepin' my digits crossed! you are in orlando right??

tim...i wish we could just shoot up there...that water looks very inviting..with all the rain we have been having,,you dont have to do too much lureing at all!

timmy 06-22-2003 7:25 AM

minty_fresh 06-22-2003 10:21 AM

Angi...yeah, her name is really Roxy! LOL Isn't that awesome!? She buys Roxy Brand clothing...and it's like having her own personalized clothing line! HAHA
I hope you were able to get out today...if ya did, let us know how the board rides! Yeah, this rain sucks...hopefully we'll get some let up soon. And no, we're in Zephyrhills/Lakeland...Roxy's dad's house is on Lake Gibson in Lakeland.

Here's a pic of her...on the new boat....still needs the tower.

timmy 06-22-2003 10:33 AM

well, luck chaned fast, went out to the truck, noticed my truck box was ajar. someone stole $400 in tools out of my truck!!! so i had to wait around for an officer instead of goign wakeboarding. apparently a buch of cars had been broken into last night. could have been out on the lake riding, but now it is raining. hopefully it is just an isolated storm and we can go out afterwards.

wakejunkeygirl 06-22-2003 3:28 PM

Cute!! Roxy looks itty bitty like me! hence, the same board! so thats the new boat.?? did the old boat have a tower??

Tim, that a real bummer! I hate theives! its so rude! hope you at least got to ride after that!

too much rain down here,,,no ride,,,we are gonna shoot for mon. tues..or hopefully next friday , sat. or sunday! Jesus mary and joeseph, this is gettin' old..
thanks god for the trusty ol' balance board!

minty_fresh 06-22-2003 5:28 PM

Yeah, Angi....she is itty bitty. LOL 5'5" and about 110 lbs. So yeah, I think the Essence is the perfect board! The old boat does have a tower...but it's down at her folks other place, in West Palm Beach. This boat is at the lake.

Yeah, and as I mentioned before...we want to have a big Wakeboard Bash this summer at the lake house. Get a bunch of locals to come out, and bring their boats too...and just have one huge session, complete with a Cookout! Of course Roxy wants to get as many girls to come to board too....like yourself...so if you know any others...you'll have to bring them along. When it starts getting close to when we'll have it...we'll make an announcement...I'll see if Jon and the guys from the shop might wanna come as well. Should be a lot of fun!

timmy 06-22-2003 7:01 PM

all I ask is that you don't have the bash between july 12 and 19.

we did end up going out at about 5:15pm and rode till sundown.. solid wakeboarding sets and then a wakesurfing session

timmy 06-22-2003 8:10 PM

http://www.djtimmy.com/wakeboarding/6_22_03/

some photos and vids of the wakesurfin tonight

minty_fresh 06-23-2003 4:15 PM

Michael, (and everyone else too) just to let you know for planning. Watersports West tournament and demo day is August 2 & 3. Hopefully you can do yours a different weekend. Ask John or Steve about it. Hope we'll see you there. I've got some info about it here: http://www.aawebshop.com
It's towards the bottom of the page. Should be a fun time.

(Message edited by aquaholic on June 23, 2003)

minty_fresh 06-23-2003 8:54 PM

Yeah, I forgot about that! LOL So it will either have to be late July, or like mid August! But yeah, I plan on going to the Tournament...should be a lot of fun!!!

aquaholic 06-25-2003 5:57 AM

Angi, I think we saw you last night with Al. We'll be back again on Thursay night at 6 if you guys want to come out.

wakejunkeygirl 06-25-2003 10:17 AM

oldschool 06-25-2003 10:57 AM

Yeah, I yelled out "jake" and saw him look up. I figured it was you all. I was wakeskating the entire time, :-) No autographs please.

Hopefully I'll make it back from Tallahassee in time on Saturday to go out around 4-5pm.

aquaholic 06-25-2003 11:24 AM

That was Craig, Bruce and I. We did notice the girls having some problems getting up. It's all good though, glad they had a good time.

Thurs at 6 at the boat dock whoever wants to go. Suzie? (don't worry Craig, we'll take good care of her ) You can tell Jake that Bruce & I will probably go Saturday morning as well around 9 or so if he doesn't have to work. Bruce will probably do the double header and go with Craig in the afternoon too.

HAHA! I had too.

That slider looks sweet. We need one here! We have a towable slider in the works. Just waiting on someone to buy another tube.

...still working on boat electrical problems but if anyone needs an extra rider after 1800..I'm in. Hope to see you tomorrow Mike!

aquaholic 07-01-2003 4:56 AM

Rob, I'm planning on hitting the lake at 6.

Craig, you guys in?

oldschool 07-01-2003 6:11 AM

Not 100% sure. How many people are going? I know Suzie wants to go. Are Angi and Jake going also? That would make 7 people. Maybe I should take mine out also, and split the load. I am up for anything though, what do you think?

oldschool 07-01-2003 6:13 AM

Ok, I just heard from Suzie that Angi and Jake cannot make it. So that would make 5: Craig, Suzie, Bruce, Mike, and Rob. That sounds better :-)

aquaholic 07-01-2003 6:17 AM

Craig, so far Rob is the only one. I'll confirm with him later. Angi & Jake are welcome to come. Have you talked to them? Just let me know who wants to go. I assume Bruce is in? Yea, let's get a count and then figure it out.

aquaholic 07-01-2003 6:18 AM

Ok then, that was fast! I'll be at the dock at 6.

wakejunkeygirl 07-01-2003 7:28 AM

mike, jake can go,,i am working till 6...so just jake,,,
thanks angi

wakejunkeygirl 07-01-2003 7:36 AM

jake is off all day, so 6 at the dock, if anything changes, craig, just give jake a call at home..Suz has the number...i dont know if i would make it out there in time....so ill just plan on thursday...i dont get off till like 6..maybe a little earlier...if i do ill call suz's cell...

wakejunkeygirl 07-01-2003 7:44 AM

i'll hustle really fast and see if i can make it..but 6:30 may be more realisitc for me, *less my car sprouts wings*...ill call suz...but just count jake, i ll watch from the dock..!!!

aquaholic 07-01-2003 7:55 AM

No problem, just call when you get to the dock. See you all there.

wakejunkeygirl 07-01-2003 8:02 AM

oldschool 07-01-2003 8:04 AM

I'll bring the skate tonight to free up some room for the boards.

Mike is that other rack back on the tower? May not need to fill the ballast at all!

oldschool 07-01-2003 8:11 AM

What's up Jake? Can't wait to see the 4 foot sea wall drop in!! HAHA

Mike, forgot to mention that one. We were doing starts off the 4 foot sea wall on the opposite side of the "L". It worked awesome. The drop didn't seem like anything.

aquaholic 07-01-2003 8:13 AM

No, other rack is still bent like a pretzel. Haven't had time to work on it. Yea, we can leave the side sacs in the truck for sure.

aquaholic 07-01-2003 8:14 AM

Wow, I've got to check that out!

timmy 07-01-2003 9:20 AM

I still say you all need to come to the glen on sat. of course, if you all have some weak excuses, then start planning for labor day weekend.

aquaholic 07-01-2003 10:38 AM

Tim, I've been trying to round up some support but not getting much feedback. Looks like a 3 hr trip. I'd need to at least get a spare for the trailer. What's the hotel or motel situation around there? Or cabins? Probably would want to stay over there somewhere that night. Then there's the rain factor. Last I heard it was 50% chance for Sat. I'd love to check it out but it seems like a lot of hassle and then you guys aren't even riding! It's a hell of a lot easier to trailer 5 minutes, ride in the a.m. then lounge at Shell Island for the day. Here's an old pic.

timmy 07-01-2003 10:50 AM

well mike plan for labor day weekend then. we are planning on staying there that weekend. there are places to stay, etc. google st johns river and you'll see. also houseboat could be a good time too, if we had enough people to cut costs.
