Sorry to throw out another one of these threads because I know theres a ton of them but was very curious. I had the opportunity to take out the lyman yesterday and absolutely fell in love with it!!! Amazing board!!! super fast, light, and a little looser than im use to but honestly a welcomed suprise. I have also been wanting to get out on a witness but the local pro shop i got the lyman from doesnt have one. how similar are the boards??? Is it absolutely necesarry I get out on the witness before I make my decision. Im coming from an obrien demented which has been an AWESOME board for me however it is kind of a tank. Weighs the same as the lyman board without bindings as the lyman does with.... I have heard awesome reviews about the witness to so thats what makes me so curious. Really dont want to drop 250 on a board unless I know its the right one. Also I should mention ive never really ridden Liquid Force but man oh man they did it RIGHT on the Lyman!!!!!

migs 08-19-2008 8:27 AM

witness is a little less Poppy than the Lyman, but still has great POP, but not loose like the lyman at all. Holds/bites/edges hard. Not as fast as the Lyman, but still quick.

da_kamp 08-19-2008 9:31 AM

and the lyman lands A LOT softer

j_money 08-19-2008 10:01 AM

so basically the lyman is the best thing to happen to wakeboarding....

eyedvride 08-19-2008 10:32 AM

Jesse, what size did you demo? I'm curious about the same board vs the 2008 murray.

johnsvt 08-19-2008 11:15 AM

I have ridden a lot of boards and the Lyman is my favorite thus far. The Murray would be next...

da_kamp 08-19-2008 11:23 AM

jesse, yes.....it is, especially with the ltd vantages

j_money 08-19-2008 11:51 AM

I like it Josh!!! Diego Im 6'2 200 and demoed the 143.

skatehawk11 08-19-2008 12:44 PM

i ride a witness and i really wanna try a lyman....overall the witness is the best board i've ever ridden. Its got real predictable pop. I ride it without the center fin so its pretty loose flat but once you throw it on its edge it grips real good. The one this i like about the witness that seems to be different from any other board is the edge is pretty thick and round all the way from tip to tail. Its not tapered like the lyman so it makes its real forgiving if you catch an edge.

da_kamp 08-19-2008 1:50 PM

dude the lymans pretty forgiving as well dude, i've landed it in butterslides before (scared •••••••• though)

and it has the same feel as the witness, very loose when flat but once its on edge it locks right in and accelerates like WHOA !

i like it with the extra fins though because it'll feel like its tracking and you'll look down and it's basically in a butterslide lol. CUPPED FINS RULE !

absoluteboarder 08-19-2008 2:49 PM

The Lyman is an incredible board....plus it flexes a fair bit....it makes our cwb's look very stiff in comparison (marius and absolute)

I havent tried the witness but the tail is thinner on the lyman....thus more flex. Anyone had them side by side?

da_kamp 08-19-2008 3:26 PM

the lyman is also a little thicker in the center i believe ?

08-19-2008 9:05 PM

Sorry for the hijack. How does the Lyman stack up to the Watson?

j_money 08-19-2008 9:47 PM

Well boardersbestbuy.com just made the decision for me!!!! Rode the lyman again tonight and am pretty jacked about gettin one!!!

Tyler,

I have ridden both watson and lyman and to be honest theres not a lot of difference. the lyman feels a little bigger but other than that both are very predictable and about the same amount of looseness.... The watson might sit just a tad deeper in the water.... If you love your watson I would stick with it because theres not a lot of difference between the two.

08-19-2008 9:53 PM

Well I don't have a Watson, I was just wondering how the two compared. BBB is making it very hard though, as I'm not sure I want to take a chance and wait for a Watson that may never come on there.

j_money 08-19-2008 10:15 PM

dude... what are you riding now???

dkmode34 08-19-2008 11:51 PM

lyman on bbb today

rkg 08-20-2008 6:57 AM

Sort of on topic- How does the Lyman compare to the 08 Murray? I saw the post above that put the Lyman just above the Murray, any other opinions? I currently ride an 06 Parks and decided I want to try something else.

billy2603 08-20-2008 7:50 AM

How about a Lyman vs a Shane?

salsajs3030 08-20-2008 8:02 AM

08 Liquid Force Lyman 143
BoardersBestBuy: $179.90 + 30 for shipping.
Great deal!

psikt 08-20-2008 8:24 AM

hey, just wanna know the difference between a lyman vs ps3 as well. i'm riding a 06 ps3 and have been thinking about switching to a lyman

08-20-2008 8:36 AM

Lol I would be riding an '07 Murray

eternalshadow 08-20-2008 8:37 AM

I've demoed the witness, watson, and purchased a Lyman.

Lyman vs Witness,
Witness is a solid board that tracks and carries well. It feels like it tracks harder but not quite as fast, it's mellower in the transition phase. It's not as poppy but as I said it carries.

Lyman vs Watson
The Lyman transitions faster, it still allows the same edge speed but the board overal feels quicker to respond. The pop is more abrupt, not sure about bigger but you know when you've nailed it.

j_money 08-20-2008 8:57 AM

LYMAN!!!!!

rmaloney 08-20-2008 11:09 AM

I ordered mine from BBB today and I'm LOOKING FORWARD to it!

absoluteboarder 08-20-2008 11:46 AM

you guys are gonna love your boards....especially russell....being older.

the lyman lands super soft...you can feel it flex on landings. ...plus its a rocket ship!!

rkg 08-20-2008 12:09 PM

Well. I ordered my Lyman today and a pair of Ronix Reliks to go with it. Will be curious to see how well it works now.

j_money 08-20-2008 2:08 PM

LYMAN!!!!!

dreamrider 08-20-2008 2:20 PM

dang they sold out on BBB.

lives2wake 08-20-2008 2:29 PM

I've ridden the Lyman a few times and thought it was a great board. I'm getting the Witness 144 in a few days. I'll report later.

megatmoe 08-20-2008 8:18 PM

I just bought the Lyman 139! Now I have to wait for it to get here! Im gonna go CRAZY!

kana12 08-20-2008 8:29 PM

the lyman is tec. the axis isnt it just with removable fins ?

da_kamp 08-20-2008 10:18 PM

william, the axis is faster, pops the same, and lands harder.

personally i dont see the reason to need the axis in the lineup with the balliness of the lyman. but thats just me

you are all going to love the Lyman. i just slapped a pair of LTD vantages on mine this last week and am LOVING THE COMBO !!!!!! looks sick, the vantages have to be the best boots this year. Together with the way the lyman rides it just makes you want to bone/poke every grab out into the flats

j_money 08-21-2008 4:57 AM

LYMAN!!!!

eternalshadow 08-21-2008 9:53 AM

Josh the solid black on black? I'm rocking the same set up! With the red in the board, I rocked out a pair of crimson board shorts, black riders bib over my vest and had my hair with red streaks/highlights for some style this past weekend at the Canadian Wakeboard Championships.

(Message edited by EternalShadow on August 21, 2008)

damned04 08-21-2008 10:10 AM

Rocking a lyman with vantages also. Seems like a popular combo. I still don't have fins for it but I'm actually liking how it rides finless. The board is fast, a good amount quicker than the transcend I used to ride. Pop is effortless and the landings are softest of any board I've ridden.

megatmoe 08-21-2008 10:19 AM

Andy, What size Lyman do you have? The 139 or 143 and what is your height, weight?

lives2wake 08-22-2008 12:40 AM

I'm happy with my choice. The Witness has a nice fluid and controllable pop and a solid edge hold into the wake. Great board, I'm looking forward to getting used to it.

da_kamp 08-22-2008 2:28 AM

Jeffery wait till you hear this, all but one of my boardshorts are black red and white, the one that matches the best being the quicksilver campeons, but wait theres more ! i also rock the black and red quicksilver ignite vest !

was soo ballin the day i wore that whole outfit (also with a red and black bandanna lol)

eternalshadow 08-22-2008 9:45 PM

LOL Nice Josh!

I'm sporting a couple pairs of black and red boardshorts myself, my current aquisition being a pair of oakley takumio that I rocked out the red lockes with. I'm wearing the Oneil vapor with the silver and slight red accents too, unfortunately that was covered by a contest bib.

I still had fun with the red and black styles.

rbc_racing 08-24-2008 6:26 AM

the 08 witness 144 is on Boarders best buy for 159.00 today

megatmoe 08-24-2008 7:11 PM

I saw that Randall. 144 is just too big. I think im gonna return the 139 Lyman I ordered. Im 6'1 195pds I think the 139 is a tad too small for me.

rbc_racing 08-24-2008 7:33 PM

I ride the lyman 139 and I'm 5'10 190-195 lbs and I love it, I've got one of the limited boards and it was only available in 139. I changed from a transend platinum 141 to the Lyman and for me the lyman is easier to ride(by easier I mean it doesn't tire me out as quickly). The difference in size from a 139 to a 141 is only about an inch anyway, I seriously doubt you will notice much difference in the ride.

damned04 08-24-2008 7:55 PM

megatmoe, I'm 5'11 and 140lbs. At my weight and height I could ride the 135, but when I demo'd it I took a few grabs big and the board would start to drift behind me. The 139 took about 2 sets to get completely used to coming off a transcend. Especially cus I ride the lyman finless, it's alot looser than my transcend with fins. I rode the shane too, absolutely loved it. Perfect feel with the fins in and the pop was huge and predictable. I chose the lyman cus I wanted a 139 instead of a 136
