How do your tower speakers hold up with the weather? Do they short out with the rain or dew from the lake? Do you do anything to preserve them? What about the head unit?

Mine old 6.5's and EVID's held up good under rain and dew. When I remebered, i'd throw my vests over the spekers to block wind/rain/dew if I was at the lake/river for a few days. Nothin for the headunit, just close the box. I've heard/read the spekaer sock do a pretty good job of protecting them. I don't trailer or store my boat with the tower spekers on.

Mike, what kind of speakers are they?

Erik, it is unlikely that your speakers will short out due to moisture. What hurts the appearance of your speaker cans are normally all the bugs and the scrubbing that comes along with the cleaning of the cans/lights. After a while, your stuff looks worn. Take a peek at speakersox.com for some ideas on speaker and wake rack covers. I will cut you a deal and custom embroider them for you too. If all else fails, break out a roll of saran wrap. Just wrap your speakers and lights up if you fill a storm is coming or need to trailer through bug city.

I don't think that's true, unless your speakers are designed to handle that. Typical cans will leak over time, el cheapo ones will leak all the time. If you drive down the road in the rain, they will leak. I have Polk Atrium salt water rated, immersion rated ones, and I've found water in them occasionally. Nothing personal, but I'm not putting condoms on my speakers, too much hassle. They won't keep water out. They're simply a cosmetic thing. Can't be bothered, myself.
