wakeboard bench question

I have a couple of old boards now and wanted to make a bench. My initial research lead me to a kit:

I am trying to figure out the best way to attach the boards to the frame and was wondering if anyone had advice. The kit comes with a bunch of screws that are supposed to be used for attaching 2x4's. i think they will be too long to go from the back and then through the board. i am also not sure how will they will hold going from the board to the frame. I thought i would ask here instead of doing trial and error. Here are some pics i found of what i am trying to do but couldnt really tell how it was attached in the pic:

I don't know how you would attach it, but awesome idea!
Good Luck:)

great idea using that bench frame, i would just screw these in http://www.lowes.com/pd_223662-37672...d=3025386&pl=1 and put the bolt on the other side, just make sure it is not too long it stabs you in the back.

I drilled through the board where the bolts were. I then bolted the board in from the backside. Again, make sure you dont get to crazy with bolts or else you could have more than you asked for when sitting down! :p

Thats what i was worried about. Having the head of the bolt sticking up. Did you do 4 on each board or just 2?

The link above to the tee bolt from lowes requires hammering it in to the board. Any thoughts on if a wakeboard could handle that?

Yes it does

I would just go with something like this.

I used the same 2x4 basics kit, but I painted all of the plastic and wood black as I thought it looked better that way. I just used some misc nuts and screws laying around the garage. Used 1 on each side for the back and 2 on each side for the seat. Pretty simple stuff. It's held up well and if anything, I'm surprised how rigid it is considering it's just plastic, a couple 2x4's, and a couple boards and bolts holding it all together. If you want to be inspired though, look up the wakeboard swing someone built for David Williams here, it's hands down the best board bench/swing I've seen. I've got a couple of old boards earmarked for a similar project when time permits.

Did you go through the binding holes for the bottom? Or did you drill 2 new holes on each side?

airshark360 06-01-2016 10:35 AM

Just found this, https://youtu.be/8Vijts2VMHU and I really like the swing design

stanfield 06-01-2016 5:04 PM

I used the bindings inserts for both the back and seat.

tings00 06-02-2016 12:56 PM

this may be a dumb question, but could i drill a hole through the binding insert bottom and then get a 1/4 size bolt and thread it all the way through and out the bottom of the board. Or would it not continue to turn once it reached the insert bottom?

stanfield 06-02-2016 1:58 PM

Yes you have to drill out the insert. Make sure you never plan to ride it again as it will be useless.

tings00 06-02-2016 2:02 PM

im not using them again. I want to keep the insert in but be able to thread a bolt past the bottom of it. Do your bolts actually use the threads of the insert or just the hole?

stanfield 06-02-2016 3:46 PM

I'm sure you can do it your way. I didn't simply because it didn't matter to me and was just using stuff I had laying around.

Turned out pretty good. Kinda wish they were matching boards but really like what the history of these boards mean to our family.
