Texas Stereo Sunsation Dominator Project

I know this a bit off topic but I think its worth posting as there has been quite a bit of discussion lately on big stereo and innovative installs.

I present to you the Texas Stereo Sunsation 36 Dominator SSR Project...

These pictures show a small fraction of the amount of custom lexan, LED, trim, speaker enclosure work, etc, etc, etc. For those who have seen the original Texas Stereo Project, its on the same level just 13 feet longer and about 800 more HP.

I plan on doing a full photoshoot of the boat over Memorial Day weekend.

W7's will fit nicely in here. 3/4'' starboard - who uses MDF these days anyway? ;)

Awesome work Brian!

All that extra weight, it probably only does 106mph now...

Nice work!

Im just the messenger, all compliments go to Tom Buist! This thing is has some serious man hours in it.

Awesome boat and install... I got a chance to look at a 36 a few months back and Sunsation has really stepped it up. What power did this one have?

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 7:58 AM

Great install - Tom really does some nice work.

Does building the sub enclosure our of King Starboard cause any issues with sound quality. I would imagine that the density is greater than or similar to that of MDF.

factorykitted 04-21-2011 8:18 AM

I dont believe so but what i do know is MDF will turn into sponge board in a marine enviroment real fast.

mike3500 04-21-2011 8:37 AM

Nice boat and install.

This is very off topic, but what is up with the drywall on that top layer? Call me a freak, but I would love to know what's behind that wall to result in using so many randomly cut pieces of drywall. I kinda like the look!

wotan 04-21-2011 8:46 AM

I've always thought there should be a better material to use than MDF. My last sub box was MDF... granted it lasted for 8 years but then it turned to dust!

The only place I've seen starboard it's like $400/sheet, though!!!

bendow 04-21-2011 8:51 AM

Is that your boat Brian?

I've never even considered or thought of using starboard to build a subwoofer box. I wouldn't think it'd be all that strong?

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 9:03 AM

Yes MDF will turn into sponge board. MDF with an epoxy resin or rhino liner material that is elevated off the floor - will not.

Why not just use starboard?

hatepain 04-21-2011 10:10 AM

Because it is HUGE money!

factorykitted 04-21-2011 10:16 AM

I think its a small price to pay when considering a new wake boat is near $100k or a go fast that's $500k. Its usually cheaper to do it once than twice.

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 11:19 AM

Of course it is a small price to pay when you spend 30k plus on your stereo.

UNvisible 04-21-2011 12:03 PM

no 30k in stereo, no care

factorykitted 04-21-2011 12:10 PM

i dont think one or two woofer boxes made out of starboard is going break anyone considering the cost of everything else folks are putting in their boats these days.

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 12:18 PM

Brian - take a look closer at those pictures. That subwoofer looks to be made out of wood and the smaller speaker boxes are king starboard.

What is he using to bond the King Starboard?

david_e_m 04-21-2011 12:34 PM

While brutally expensive, KingStarboard is some tough stuff. Totally impervious to UV and salt water. Very dense as compared to HDPE so you can polish the edges to a gloss finish if you want. I wouldn't hesitate to use it to build an enclosure if its thick enough. We limit its applications because its an oily polymer and we can't find any adhesives for it. Even polymer dyes rub off. If anyone has found a glue that will bond K.S. then please share the info.

Murphy - he told me the subs and smaller boxes were star - maybe I misunderstood? I'll ask him again. Not sure what he's using to bond material to it with...iI'll have to ask him. I'll work on getting some more pictures as well. The engine bay has a bunch of really cool lexan work.

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 1:16 PM

No worries - it is a sweet setup and I am sure that it will rock.

bruizza 04-21-2011 1:34 PM

Very sweet boat and install.

factorykitted 04-21-2011 2:04 PM

Murphy - The woofer boxes are indeed starboard. He assembles the boxes by screwing it together unlike MDF boxes. He uses Plexus adhesive to bond the corners even though its been screwed together.

murphy_smith 04-21-2011 2:12 PM

So the W-7 box is Starboard...man that is cool!!!

norcalrider 04-22-2011 3:31 PM

What inverter did you use for the TV?

bendow 04-23-2011 6:54 AM

The starboard is a cool idea...I wonder if it would sound different than MDF. I'm sure it's a hell of a lot lighter. Baltic Birch is also lighter than MDF and much stronger. I'm still confused why everyone wants to put W7's on their boat when power consumption can be an issue...they're inefficient current sucking subs, but they do say JL on them

Near the optimas under the bench seat firing to the side and channeled into the cockpit via the open gunwale cavitites.
