So just picked up or first V Drive a Wakesetter 23LSV. Looking to get a stereo dialed in on it. I have been doing a little research here so thanks to everyone who posts.
Well I am a broke college graduate. Statring his new career in Civil Engineering and figured its time to jump into the real world and get some debt

The guy who owned it before me installed 4 Polk Momos running them through a Kenwood zx650.4 amp. He also has a kicker S10 L5 sub in there off a Kicker mono amp. Well am thinking of adding some tower speakers to the boat. I can't really do pro audio. I am in Wisconsin where we only use the boat half a year max. So I am leaning towards the Kicker Kb6000 tower speakers after trying to figure out what is the best for the $$. Would like to stay with a kicker amp as I have read here that they are great for the money, but I came across these BOSS amps at a retailer here in northern Wisconsin that seem to offer some of the same/close specs within regards to RMS and wattage and what not at a little cheaper cost. Only thing is that I know nothing about the Boss amps. Guy says they are decent, but he selling them and JL. Are they garbage? I went to their website and well it seems like a legit company offering a ton of different products including marine amps and marine stereo stuff. I am not big on the marine amps, think a regular one will do the trick for less money.
This Boss GT580 2 channel seems like a pretty good deal with 200 watts RMS x 2 @4ohms which I feel will push 2 of the KB 6000 rated for what the recommend for 100 watts rms @ 4 ohms. Also looked at the GT480 which was rated 150 x4 RMS @4ohms , but for 30bucks more the 580 can be had so figure not a bad ide to go up one. Any thoughts?
I haven't been into stereo stuff for sometime now so really not sure which stuff is still pretty decent and not gonna break the bank. Even when I had stuff it still wasn't always the best. So I guess my question is what kind of quality would you gain or loose by going with the Boss over the Kicker.

Here's a link to the Boss stuff
580
http://www.bossaudio.com/main/568
480
http://www.bossaudio.com/main/569

(Message edited by setter23lsv on January 06, 2008)

I installed 4 Wet Sound Pro 60s on a Boss 1600W amp in a friend's boat and it was a great match, they really scream. He has been running 2 Boss amps for 3 yrs now and will be adding a 3rd this Spring when we reconfig the whole dealer install.

Kicker stuff kicks @$$ for the price, cant go wrong with them

So, just to understand what you are doing....you are looking to add to the 4 Momos and need an amp to do this, right. How many KB6's are you looking to add.

Mike
Thanks The 2 Kicker amps, the (4) Polks, and the Kicker sub came with the boat. I am just looking to add some tower speakers.

Probably could have asked it in 15words or so, but wanted to give a little insight

(Message edited by setter23lsv on January 06, 2008)

The reason I ask how many KB6's you are going with, will play into weather you go with a 2 or 4 chnl amp (I prefer wire 1 spkr p/chnl when possible).

If going with 2, Id recommend the Kicker ZX200.2. This will give you around 50W RMS x 2 @ 4ohm.

If looking at 4, go with the Kicker ZX350,4 for about 45W RMS x 4 @ 4ohm

or

4 KB6's wired parallel (2 per chnl for a 2ohm load) you could use the Kicker ZX350.2 = 175W RMS x 2 @ 2ohm for a net of 85w RMS at each speaker. Only real down side is power consumption and heat generated will be more then the 4chnl.

Sorry forgot to put that in. Just going to add 2. From what I have read 2 should do the job. Obviously 4 would be nice, but again I only use my boat maybe once/twice a week. I had an 88 2001 before this and that is what we averaged. Sometimes more..... sometimes less.

Also that is why I was going to go with a higher wattage RMS amp like the ZX 450.....Just in case I decide 2 just isn't enough and want to go 4 or maybe even up to a better speaker down the road that requires more. With the KB's they recommend 100RMs to each at 4ohms Like you said can wire them to show 2 ohms in the event of I decide to go with 4speakers on that 2 channel.

Not to worried abut over heating the amp. It will be in a wide open space as the LSV is huge and won't be ran for long periods of time.

(Message edited by setter23lsv on January 06, 2008)

Web site says max RMS of 75, so that's what I based the choices off of.

The Zx450.2 you be a good choice if you wanted to expand later. 2 Paralleled on 1 chnl will net you about 110W RMS and leave the other chnl for another 2. I would wire 1 p/chnl @ 4ohm right now as the net will be about the same, and then parallel them later if you add 2 more.

Sounds like you are on the right track for a decent system.

Thanks,

Yeah the Kicker site says 75watts, but Monster Tower sight says they recommend 100 for optimal performance. Was reading some articles and posts in the archives and pretty much all stated around 100-125 RMS was optimal.
