Riding through the top of the wake

I sometimes struggle with leaving early on many tricks and was wondering if any of you have any tips/tricks that force you to more consistently ride up and off the wake before getting into the trick?

Especially on spins?

Thanks!

Go for the grab and go for it before you spin. Like for a blind one i try and grab stalefish and actually poke frontside before throwing the blind one late. Front 3's I go for the nose then spin.

You are not alone. Waiting to spin is one of the hardest things to break. You really want to make sure you get all your pop then spin. Its really just a mind game. Can you tell us a particular spin that's giving you a hard time?

Thx Steve for the advice.

I can do several different 3s and 5s. On my hs fs 3's, I typically do what you suggested - go up and get the grab (most of the time nose) and then spin around and it feels solid. I've got plenty of time to spot the landing, and could likely take it to 5. But, when I plan from the beginning to take it to 5, I generally leave early but some of the time still manage to land it. When I try to grab a 5, much of the time my body doesn't even go for the grab but just starts spinning right off the wake or earlier. My body won't do what my mind wants it to do. So, I'm thinking maybe I need to just take a much different approach to this to get me out of this mind funk? Thus, why I asked if there are any trick tips to force yourself to wait (other than trying to grab). As an aside and somewhat oddly, I can do a wake to wake hs fs 180 very lofty where I feel like I'm justing hanging up there and would have time to spin maybe further than a 5. If I could just get the same height on some of my spins that I can on a 180 that would be pretty super.

Is there a particular place that you are looking on certain spins as you're taking off? Maybe somewhere on shore or over your shoulder?

On toeside spins often times it feels like I've fully popped off the wake before I spin but I'm not getting the height that I need to go further than a 5 or grab it better.

Thoughts?

When I find myself leaving early on backrolls, I mentally tell myself to wait until I feel the pop before I even think about the roll, and it helps me. By the time you feel the pop and process everything, you are off the wake by the time you move to start the backroll. I think it would carry over the same for your spins.

Going for a nice lofty jump helps with the spins also since there is less line tension.
