I have a 2000 MC X-5 and last Saturday, after we had just got through emptying the sacs, we were running back to the ramp a little faster than we usually do (about 33-34 mph) and I went to slow the boat down pretty quickly as we entered a "No Wake" zone and the speedos along with the tac stayed stuck on the 33 mph and 3500 RPM. No matter what speed we cruised around at after that, they stayed stuck...we tried running at various speeds for about 5 minutes and then gave up and put it back on the trailer.

Has anyone experienced this before? The speedo pickups appear to be on the rear under the swim deck (this is my first boat, so I'm not 100% sure). Is there a chance that the pickups are clogged and/or damaged or do you think it is an electrical issue?

Any help and or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

If they are the water pressure speedo's they are probably clogged. You need to buy a speedo cleaning tool. It is a super small drill bit you can get from MC. No you wont have a small enough drill bit in your tool kit. You might be able to stick a needle in the hole and get it unclogged. As far as the tack your on your own.

On my 1995 MC they use to get clogged all the time. If I think about it I'll take a picture of it tonight to show you what I'm taking about.

I have the same problems from time to time....90% of the time the lodged debris is in the end, not all the way up in the tube. I just unscew the pito tube and flush it with water.

or you can unscrew the tube and take the pitot off the boat and blow it out with an air compressor.

If that doesn't work it may be electrical. My 01 needs a computer reset from time to time. Just unplug the dash computer main terminal plug and plug it back in after a few minutes. It resets mine and they start working again. I have to do mine several times in a season when it get stuck.

You can also use a paperclip to get the stuff out. I'll look again for the tool I'm talking about tonight.

Face Planter, Adam, Ryan, and David...thanks for the awesome advice...who needs a dealership when you can get the answers you need to fix your ride on this post? I'm picking up an air compressor on the way home today (needed to buy one anyone for a nail gun) and I'm going to try to blow the pito tubes out with that. I'll also try unpluggin the dash computer as well just to be sure if it is an electrical problem. Thanks for the advice guys...you're saving me tons of time and money!
