salt water?
 

looking at buying a boat thats been in saltwater i searched on here to find out the exact effects but didnt find much. so ? is will there be problems going form saltwater to freshwater and what exactly does saltwater do?

Do a quick search on the subject and you will find a lot of varied opinions and advice on saltwater. For your particular boat a little more info will help you obtain better advice like type of boat, age, time in salt, does it have freshwater cooling, flush kit, signs of corrosion. Trailer, galvanized, painted or was the boat on a lift. Painted trailers get hit hard.

If the owner was super anal and didn't just leave the boat in saltwater it could be fine even if it doesn't have freshwater cooling. On the other hand a boat with freshwater cooling that doesn't get properly looked after, cleaned and prepped could be worse off then the other scenario. Look for signs of corrosion. If the swim deck brackets, trailer and other metal items on the boat are corroded it is a good sign the boat was neglected. Boats in salt should get some sort of corrosion preventative sprayed on the engine, motor mounts, transmission, platform brackets, trailer, etc.... Owners have to be carefull as well to try and keep as much salt water out of the boat as possible. My old roommate Bret V(Name Drop) use to keep his VLX floating in the saltwater and his boat was nicer and cleaner then half the fresh water boats. He was super anal about making sure people dry off before getting in the boat and that boards where dripped off before being put in the racks. He also took the boat out once a week or so to do a good wash down and cleaning.
