sinkoumn 02-16-2010 2:35 PM

Pilot: "Don't worry dude, I got this....woooooop!"

jaegermaster 02-16-2010 2:50 PM

I think I would have crapped myself.

ralph 02-16-2010 3:37 PM

The pilot knows what colour adrenaline is...... its brown.

guido 02-17-2010 4:20 PM

ABORT! ABORT!

Ha, ha. That's just craziness. I can't imagine even trying the landing when you're coming in that sideways.

markoranovich 02-20-2010 8:49 PM

Looks like coming into Vegas...LoL

benjaminp 02-21-2010 7:40 PM

Hey flight control...screw you guys. Thats some solid flying.

wakerider42 02-22-2010 3:27 PM

Yeah that's gnarly. I talked with a pilot buddy of mine and this is not as uncommon as you would think apparently. I YouTubed "crosswind landings" and you see all kinds of Boeing test flights. I guess they're made to handle that kind of thing.

But yes, I would absolutely be pooing myself if I were on one of those planes!!

dh03r6 02-22-2010 4:10 PM

I dont have words.

plhorn 02-23-2010 11:11 AM

Ben- That attempted landing was Crap. The title saying "Amazing pilot" was written by someone who knows nothing about flying commercial airliners.

noti_dad 02-23-2010 12:21 PM

Check this one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljOxo0s33sI&feature=PlayList&p=AC3 22323D3695844&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL& amp;index=5

guido 02-23-2010 12:29 PM

Dave, that last landing was CRAZY! Man that plane was sieways.

noti_dad 02-24-2010 4:28 PM

^^^^^ yeah.
Boeing Flight Test pilots are definitely worth their pay. I've seen a few first hand in Central WA. CRAZY!

dizzyj 02-24-2010 9:00 PM

wow, really makes you appreciate what those can go through.

on the last 2 it looked like the wheels were slanted to favor the landing. do they do that? or was it a trick of the light?

helinut 02-25-2010 8:05 AM

The C5 has wheels that will move to allow it to land straight in a crosswind. They found that since it was such a big aircraft though, it would take a small hurricane to affect it. I believe the B52 also had the same ability.

Those test boys do make their money. I have a commercial license and I would be crappin' my pants on that last landing. Especially with that big of an aircraft. You should see the final brake test they did before certifying the 777.

Fully loaded aborted takeoff right before they hit the limit for a safe abort. They applied full brakes and smoked em. Started the tires on fire and they had to sit on the runway for 5 minutes like that to simulate the time it would take for the fire team to show up. It was freaky as heck!

(Message edited by helinut on February 25, 2010)

That would be this test.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4LFErD-yls

^^^^^^nice.
The Flight Test Wheel/Tire shop is just down from my office. You should see what brakes look like froze and what some locked brake landings do to tires.
