ACL surgery
 

my 15/16 year old tore her ACL in volleyball. My insurance deductible is so high, that her procedure will probably be entirely out of my pocket.

How much should I expect to be paying?

I know that she can get therapy afterwards for a discounted $80 a session

I would expect to pay a lot. I know my deductible is also high, HSA style insurance. Had my ACL done last November, I was billed in the 50k range. Insurance adjsuted that to about 7k. So if you have more than 7k deductable you will be paying alot. I know my deductable is $2500 which my employer contributes $2k per year to. Hope this helps. I had the same thing with PT as well. ABout $86 a session. My surgery straddled the new year which was stupid so my deductable reset, which really screwed me. Good luck. Its not as bad most say. I had virtually no pain with all the pain management. The Patellar surgery is way more painful than the Hammy one. I have had both.

mine is set at $10,000. I am probably aleady in for $1000.

Mine in 2004 was ACL and Miniscus, 28K. I had a 2K deductible and insurance did not cover PT.

$11,500. Paid $2,500 deductible + $1,000 PT and insurance covered my CTI knee brace.

my ACL and meniscus was close to 100K. Paid out of pocket $7500. ouch! Insurance covered PT, woo hoo.
Luckily the job I have now has full benefits and low deductibles.

10,000 dollar deductible?! I will never complain about my 1,800 for a family of three, again. Wow.

Make sure you let the hosptial staff (MD's, Surgeons) know that this is not an insurance procedure - that you're coming out of pockey.

Unfortunately for insurance premiums - there is anotehr set of pricing guidelines that can bring the cost down when insurance isn't footing the bill.. Worth a shot.
