I picked my boat up yesterday from the shop that de-winterized it and I had an issue with the trailer brakes locking up when I tried to reverse. After playing with the bumper to trailer wiring connectors I was finally able to get the brakes to release while going in reverse.

I think this is due to the connections on the male and female end being dirty. Is there a solution or type of brush that I can use to clean them?

If this sounds like another issue what do you think it could be? (I will take the tralier in to get the brakes and bearings checked next week, but I wanted to use the boat this weekend)

Your best bet is to cut the ends off the cables and attach new connectors.

Hey Winston,
If it's just a connection problem, maybe just try a wire brush to clean things up a bit. If your using a 7 round - 5 flat adapter, then the connections inside the adapter can get messed up too. Probably just need to replace it then.

If driving a late model GM truck & using the typical 7 round - 4 flat adapter, you need the 5 flat plug to get the trailer brakes enabled/disabled when in reverse, or you have to get out & connect pin 4 to something hot (pin 2 by the ground) & that should disable your brakes. Just be sure to get it reconnected correctly once you are going forward again.

Trax pad is on it's way to you as we speak.... USPS should email you with any status as it goes on it's way.

I turned out to be a bad ground wire connection on the trailer. I was able to fix it in a couple of minutes though. (I'm paying the price for the previous owner using the boat in salt water a few times. The boat is fine, but the trailer has had some issues.)

Thx guys
