GoPro Dive Housing for Wakeboarding Videos?
 

Just curious to see if anyone has used it yet? The new housing seems to work great underwater, but what about above? Would it work well when filming a rider from a tube? Can't seem to find anything about it.

Curious as well. Aftermarket has flat lenses already, but the GP seems darker and of course is larger. I wonder if it causes the aperture to open further to improve underwater shoots. I would also be curious to see the effects above liquid.

I thought the aperture is fixed, but maybe not. The blurfix flat lens looks odd on the camera too. I found this video, he uses the blur fix. It looks fine above water, that makes me wonder if the dive housing would work just as well.

Hey Ryan, I think you are right when it comes to any mechanical means, but it does have light adjustment in the camera's operating system. I suppose that is what I was mistakenly calling aperature.

Why not just use the standard GoPro housing for shooting a rider in a tube? The dive housing is designed to go to greater depths. I can see no advantage using the dive housing versus the standard GoPro housing (with the solid back plate) for shooting wakeboarding from a tube. My regular GoPro has spent a lot of time going down to 5-10' underwater with no problem. You certainly don't need a dive housing for wakeboarding unless you just want one.

Rob, I think you're right. The normal case is good for like 100'. The dive case is good for 320'. Big difference. But why the big flat lense on the dive case but no underwater flat lense to cure the blur?

BTW, the guy who shot the video above has some awesome tips for shooting. I must have watched 50 of them the other day. Seeing his experiements with the GoPro suction mount would have kept me from doing the same with the floaty door. I actually thought it would float the suction mount, but my son found that it didn't. Thank God it stuck to the boat! :)

I wouldn't mind watching the videos and picking up the tips. Where would I find them?
