Crossfit Games 2012

Anyone entering the competition? The first workout is announced tomorrow. Good luck to any of you who enter. Anxious to see what they throw at us!

I have a hard enough time with the WOD's, haha; I can't imagine doing the comps against some of these people who are scary strong.

TerryR 02-21-2012 2:20 PM

mossy are you going?

mossy44 02-21-2012 3:02 PM

I will be going to the finals in Carson at the Home Depot center in July as a spectator.

I am entering the open here locally in hopes to make it to regionals. Hate to sell myself short, but I know I can't make it to the finals. My ultimate goal is maybe top 60 in the region which means I would make it to regionals in Louisville (thats where I would be if I made it). That might be a long shot too, but we will see. Depends on how heavy the weights are during the qualifying open rounds. I am much better at the body weight and endurance workouts.

Last year, the weights werent too bad in the open. Then, the first wod of the regionals, they had 21,15,9 deadlifts and something else with 315 lb deadlift. Huge difference from the weights they had in the open. Thats where they seperate the boys from the men :)

21:15:9 @ 315 is insane. It's one thing to just bang that out at the gym.. But as part of a WOD - it's insanity.

Did the first workout earlier this morning. The workout was to do as many burpees as possible. in 7 minutes.

The difference was that I normally jump up, but dont have to look up to touch anything. In this workout, you had to jump and touch something at least 6" from your flat footed reach. Made it a little bit different. Ended up doing 101 burpees. My goal was 110, but I am still pleased with 101.

Burpees make me puke

sinkoumn 02-23-2012 2:56 PM

I got sick yesterday, so doing the 7min burpees today was fun...

hatepain 02-23-2012 5:42 PM

I have a buddy who is competing he hit 111 on the Burpees which is darn good for a 205lb guy.

mossy44 02-23-2012 11:10 PM

111 is pretty good! Wish I had done better than 101:o

mossy44 02-25-2012 2:33 PM

did again today. much better! 120. i am pretty happy with that.

jhilltn 02-26-2012 6:41 PM

i think one guy here got 141 and another in the 130s. heard they're legit. i might go watch one night, haha.

hatepain 02-27-2012 5:52 PM

Top guy right now is 161 and it was videoed

acurtis_ttu 02-28-2012 6:18 AM

IMO, the key to performing quick burpees is to adjust your technique to where you "cheat" just enough to have the rep count. There is a diff. in doing burpess as part of a workout vs a timed competition.

mossy44 02-28-2012 10:17 AM

yea, 161 is just nuts! to keep that pace for 7 minutes straight is impressive!!!

adam - just curious what you mean? in this particular workout, you had to jump and touch something 6" above your reach and if you didnt touch it, the rep didnt count. not sure how to adjust the technique on that.

acurtis_ttu 02-28-2012 11:38 AM

^^^ w/o seeing the exact movement, here's an idea.....

timing your jumps to where your fingertips just make the 6 inch mark...anything higher is a waste of energy. Knowing exactly how much you need to compress ( in your jumps) at different levels of fatigue to hit that jumping mark.

Seems like alot to think about but training to stay focused under extreme pyshical duress optimizes your performace.

Anytime your can perfom any movemnet more effeciently, your usually a step ahead of the competion.

jhilltn 03-02-2012 6:58 PM

update: the two guys i mentioned in the previous post did a little better in workout 2 and are now ranked 1 and 2. cookeville is a small town in TN and the 1 and 2 (for now) guys are both here. crazy.

mossy44 03-04-2012 1:52 PM

Rich Froning and Dan Bailey? Of course they are doing well! Those guys are machines! Definitely cool to see them train together.

hatepain 03-05-2012 9:30 AM

Yeah Fronning and Bailey are literally two of the best in the world. Grinning won last year and should have the year before while Bailey won the open.
