It was a nice windy day, but not too cold for middle of winter!

dakid 01-23-2004 1:12 AM

Nice pics Bill! What cam are you using? The quality's amazing!

kristian 01-23-2004 1:12 AM

I see Paula is back to de-hydrating herself, wearing a drysuit. and another board, how many do you want, hahaha (good choice, my next board is going to be a team)
Geoff, glad to see the knee is healing fine, so how did you like wakesurfing??
sdboardr99 01-23-2004 1:17 AM

Thanks Joe, it's a Canon Digital Rebel SLR. I'm really happy with the quality of the pics. If you haven't checked out the Ricky G photo gallery you should, some of those pics came out really well.

http://www.wakeworld.com/Galleries/Gallery.asp?GalleryID=163

shirows 01-23-2004 2:06 AM

Yeah Nice Pics, good shoot at the good moment.

the_madness 01-23-2004 9:08 AM

Bill is that with the kit lens on your digital rebel or have you upgraded the lens?

wakeripper 01-23-2004 9:57 AM

Bill nice pics, if i can tear myself away from work soon we will have to hook up. It is also nice to see that Paula is still alive and kicking by the way what board is she using now!

obsurfer 01-23-2004 10:03 AM

I like peering at these pics. But I'm ok because there has been good surf. OTHERWISE I WOULD BE SO ENVIOUS!!! Really good pics.

blabel 01-23-2004 10:06 AM

Yeah it's a shame that the good surf months coincide with the time where the boat traffic is relatively low.

purana182 01-23-2004 10:42 AM

Yeah, How do you boys and girls like that 80's style SPRING suit!! I know you like Kristian, fits in with your Euro ways, haha. Your missing out on all of it though man, get your ass over here for summer. Thanks for the pics bill they're awsome, and for the rides.

sdboardr99 01-23-2004 11:26 AM

Brad, those were taken with a 70-200mm f4L lens, definitely an upgrade. I've also used a low-cost 70-300 f5.6 lens and it took some really good pics as well, and you can pick one of those up for about $200.
blabel 01-23-2004 11:29 AM

Bill I forgot to thank you for the advice on the digital camera. We got the model up from your old one for $365 which is less than expected and so far we are really happy with it.

kristian 01-23-2004 11:40 AM

Geoff, add a little Yellow and Pink, and then you'll be cool enough to ride over here

purana182 01-23-2004 12:32 PM

Dude, Kristian, i am sporting the yellow on the knee brace, and i'll just pick up one of the new hot pink premeir's, and keep the neon green wetsuit, so then i'll be set. Hey bill do you think you can email me your choice pics from yesterday, thanks a lot again.

wakepaula 01-26-2004 9:33 PM

Amazing!!
Yeah, Geoff was giving me crap today about the direction of my hand in the first picture. I was going for the MEAT there!!! Or at least trying to anyway.
I'm riding an 04 LF Team now. I can't help it Randy, I gotta try out new boards every so often
Thanks again Bill, you're the BEST!

wakepaula 01-26-2004 9:45 PM

Hi Kris!! I want them all!! You're going LF?? Good for you, it's about time!

buttacup 01-26-2004 10:44 PM

Nice pics there.

Paula- you look very focused on that grab.

kristian 01-26-2004 10:47 PM

Or are you just slowly collecting enough equipment to open your own store, hahahaha

Yes but I'm going Back to LF.

(Message edited by kristian on January 26, 2004)

oldguy 01-27-2004 5:13 AM

Bill,

Great pics. Santa gave me a Digital Rebel for Christmas. My action pics have not come out this good. I am still in the learning curve. What mode did you have the camera in for the shots.

Thanks,

Tim

davemcadams 01-27-2004 7:32 AM

Bill, do you use any type of pod to stabilize the camera while shooting? Those look great. I have trouble keeping riders in frame at this zoom level. And I thought a monopod would help.

canaday 01-27-2004 7:56 AM

Kris,

Dude, it's about time you came around.

In case people didn't notice Paula is performing a new trick in the top picture. It's actually an underhanded wave to the camera, and I believe that since she's the first to do it on film she gets to name that trick.
kristian 01-27-2004 8:08 AM

I was wondering why I couldn't find it in the trick list, so Paula, whats it called?

wakepaula 01-27-2004 9:27 AM

Hmmmm... I like Crotchwaffle. For those that might not be familiar with the term - Crotchwaffles are those crusty things that accumulate between your legs after riding ATV's in the sand all weekend.

Perfect! I hereby name the underhanded wave, to the camera, between the legs trick, the Crotchwaffle.

wakepaula 01-27-2004 9:33 AM

Kris, you changed your quote. HAHAHHAAAAAAA
I love it!
wakeboard_iraq 01-27-2004 12:57 PM

Crotchwaffle - thats a good one. haha
And that is a pretty good quote Kris.

Bill, did you get that crap all over your boat this time?

poon 01-27-2004 2:14 PM

I also purchased the Canon Rebel 300D and I am really happy with it. Here is a pic of Matt Von Der Ahe that I took with the camera.

sdboardr99 01-27-2004 2:33 PM

Tim, I shoot in Manual mode. I shoot at f4 at 1/1500 or 1/2000 if possible, so I use manual mode with single point (center) autofocus. Once I focus on the rider then I switch the lens to manual focus.

David, I just hand-hold the camera. I sit in the back on the boat since that's the most stable place and it helps if the water is calm. It just takes practice to follow the rider smoothly and hit the shutter at the right time. Using a high shutter speed also makes a difference because you won't get an camera shake.

Arun, do you do any sharpening of your pics in photoshop? I noticed that it makes a huge difference. I don't over do it, but it makes the images much more crisp.

Jim my trailer was covered in the crap when we pulled it out. I posted a pic in the thread that Steve started warning about it.
sdboardr99 01-27-2004 9:34 PM

Here's a couple more pics of Geoff surfing - picked it up really quickly and looked like he was having fun. (These pics were shot with the Digital Rebel kit lens)

deepstructure 01-28-2004 1:39 AM

nice pics bill and arun. that camera is amazing.

arun, is matt going for a suitcase grab on a crow or something? and did he paint that absolute?

poon 01-28-2004 5:48 AM

Bill, I have not tried that but I will.... Thanks. I am pretty new to photoshop still.

Chris, Not sure what kind of grab he was going for but the trick was a heelside front to fakie.

dakid 01-28-2004 7:09 AM

Please, put some shorts on over those tighties!

JK!

Nice pics! I can't wait to get back to Cali!

wakepaula 01-28-2004 10:21 AM

I can't wait to meet you JOE!

wakeripper 01-28-2004 10:29 AM

I can't wait to see Paula. I am missing her

purana182 01-28-2004 10:48 AM

Hey now Joe, Me and Paula are sittin here in the shop reading all of these comments about me and my neon 80's wetsuit, and i think i look GOOD! So maybe when you get back to cali i'll let you borrow it so you can get as many girls as i do in it!

lfxstar 01-28-2004 10:51 AM

one word.... BOARDSHORTS...or is that two words

ivyrider 01-28-2004 11:12 AM

Oh Geoff... I think you are a #1 STUD in that wetsuit... Boardshorts off to you, Big Boy!!
sdboardr99 01-28-2004 11:31 AM

Kyle, that's the difference between SoCal and other places where you aren't used to wearing a wetsuit. If you were to paddle out in San Diego wearing boardshorts over a wetsuit the other surfers would laugh and probably kick your ass for being a poser.

canaday 01-28-2004 11:33 AM

You mean like Thane?

dakid 01-28-2004 11:35 AM

Paula, I can't wait to meet you too! But, it will probably be in someone else's boat, as Bill J probably won't let me in his.

purana182 01-28-2004 12:10 PM

See i knew Bill had my back, Us SoCal kids just don't need to hide the shriveled package with shorts, we jsut sport what we got!

Bill, We still heading out tomrrow, if yeah what time?

sdboardr99 01-28-2004 1:15 PM

I'm thinking 10am again - except I plan to be there at 10am this time

deepstructure 01-28-2004 2:58 PM

arun - doh! forgot he rides regular.

buttacup 01-28-2004 8:44 PM

Sounds like people are jealous of you lookin' so stylin' in your neon suit, I agree with Misty, you look like a Stud in that suit.

wakepaula 01-28-2004 9:47 PM

The pictures, as good as they are, don't do Geoff justice. Girls, he's a hotty fo sure!!

Randy, that sounds like you're coming out tomorrow, I hope?? I can't wait to see you either

wakeripper 01-28-2004 10:01 PM

No i wish, that darn work thing has got a hold of me. I have been offered like 4 pulls from JohnR and have not been able to make it once

buttacup 01-29-2004 1:56 PM

Sounds like you need to take a sick day and go ride!!!

toolfan 01-29-2004 3:05 PM

If you dont want anyone making fun of your neon shorty, wear some cut-off blue jeans instead of board shorts. they will make neon will just melt away.

sdboardr99 01-29-2004 8:46 PM

And lots more pics from today, including some wakesurfing pics of Evan who is another wakesurfing convert - picked it up really quickly since he's a surfer, and had a blast. Todd also made a guest appearance at San V today after his class at SDSU was cancelled.

wakepaula 01-30-2004 12:25 AM

Nice!

BILL,THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUCH A GREAT DAY! YOU'RE TOO MUCH

I can't help but reflect on Evan's comment after watching Todd ride today...about the difference between knowing a rocket can take off towards the outer limits and actually witnessing it.

TRUE...Todd you're the ROCKET MAN!!!
Today was a great day

dakid 01-30-2004 7:57 AM

Nice pics!

Geoff...what can I say, but I got shorts for you man! You too, Bill!

wakeripper 01-30-2004 9:55 AM

Speaking of the Rocket Man did Todd get his gear back? It looks like he is riding Bill's board.

Great Pics by the way Bill, Oh yeah did i tell you i am so jealous

sdboardr99 01-30-2004 10:07 AM

Randy, Todd was riding my board. Didn't like it much but he still managed to go big. I've never seen my board do so many tricks - hopefully now I'll be able to do them now that the board has learned how

We need to get you out there to shoot some pics, and I want to shoot some MX pics too.
wakeripper 01-30-2004 10:28 AM

Bill what are you doing Sunday. I am going to Amago out by Sengme Oaks water park and riding. Blabelmooch is out there today and if he likes it I am trying to talk him into going on Sunday also. There have been some really fast guys there lately so i'm sure you could get some really good shots

It is also good to see Todd riding again

sdboardr99 01-30-2004 10:35 AM

I'll be in Mammoth this weekend. Might be home next weekend though.
purana182 01-30-2004 10:53 AM

Well since my wakesurfing has become an awkward discussion about how I look on the internet i thought i would give you all a funny pose to laugh about, i am sure you all know which pic i am talking about. But i do have to give thanks to paula for her concern over the matter and weather the pics give me "justice" or not. But the rest of you, go ahead, laugh it up! I am here to entertain.......... And BRING BACK THE EIGHTIES BABY!!!!

(Message edited by purana182 on January 30, 2004)

dakid 01-30-2004 11:08 AM

Paula, u doin' a 180 in the 3rd of the new pics?

sdboardr99 01-30-2004 12:04 PM

Joe, it's more like a 90

wakepaula 01-30-2004 12:16 PM

Yeah, but I've only managed to land a few of those.
Last summer on our houseboat trip I thought I had finally mastered them, I was riding everyday, two to three sets a day, landing most of them and now....well, I keep trying

How true that is! I don't commit to the whole rotation.

(Message edited by wakepaula on January 30, 2004)

kristian 01-30-2004 1:14 PM

So Paula, when are you going to unveil a Crotchwaffle 90? That would just be awsome!

blabel 01-30-2004 4:58 PM

Randy the track was fun. A bit over my head but I think once I get used to riding the harpack again I will get better. I was a kook out there especially in the beginning. But I was definitely a lot faster towards the end of the day. I took a couple of picks of the guy that runs the track. Can you say whip? It felt good to get out there. Don't think Sunday is going to happen but you never know.

viabaja 02-01-2004 1:58 PM

Bill,

Nice pix! How's the water re: fire. I think it was you last month indicating there was black scum floating in the water and would leave a nasty film on the hull? Your pix reflect nice water - looks d____ cold though!!

Chris
