Slidind Misconpceptions : HELP

Hi everyone!

I would like to find out the correct terms for jibbing, it is quite confusing :banghead:

For now I believe the name of the trick in first come from how the rider approach to the obstacle.

If the rider approach on heelside, it is going to be backside.
is does on toeside it's going to be frontside.

After this, the second part of the name will come from which part of the board crosses over the obstacle first.

If the nose crosses first it is going to be boardslide ,
and if the tail does first, it is ging to be lipslide.

So for now we have

heelside approach & chest facing direction you go = backside board slide
heelside approach & back facing direction you go = backside lip slide

toeside approach & chest facing direction you go = frontside lip slide
toeside approach & back facing direction you go = frontside board slide

At this point I'm pretty sure I'm correct, let me know if not.

My doubt it is about where you start the obstacle from ollie.

I think it doesn't matter where you start, still the same names; just better or lower trick quality.

Some friends are telling me is you are talking about a lip slide you should get on the rail or obstacle from the side, not from the beginning.

Could you tell me who is right ?

Thanks, and regards from the other side of the sea!

All these names come from snowboarding so if you google snowboard rail explanations that should give you a better idea how to explain.
Here's a link with a nice diagram you can check out -> http://www.maverix.org/snowboard-rail-trick-names/

About the where you should start sliding on the rail for lipslides, true there's not proper or improper way, a lot of people just think it looks better (myself included)
There's more material out on the web in regards to snowboarding so check out those links like I said before -> http://youtu.be/sGSdL_fpqTw?t=5m55s

Thanks Vinny!

But still have the same doubt. I couldn't find anything about where it sopous to start the slide over the rail. On the draw seems like should be on the side, but nothing that confirm this.

Anyone can help me??

Hey Sergio,
from what you wrote, you are correct. Unfortunately the above diagram is not correct and the names actually come from skateboarding. Because of the skateboard trucks, you also run into tail/nose slides, blunts, and grinds (trucks), but for the basics, you've got it.

Thanks Derek!!

Only one question,. does it changes the name depends on where you access to the rail?

some friend is telling me a lipslide is only when you start it at the middle of the rail, never at the beginning .

is that correct?

I think no, doesn't matter, but I would like to be sure.

thanks again!

My personal opinion is it is only a lipslide if it is very clearly a iipslide. This doesn't rule out hitting the rail from the beginning but if you approach a rail from straight on, I would not call it a lipslide. If you approach at an angle and ollie into a lipslide and happen to land at the start of the rail, you're good.

Just my opinion but I can see where someone would say not to hit the start of the rail which I think in most cases doesn't happen anyways.
