I am about to buy my first wake boat and me and my two boys are going to learn to wakeboard. I was wondering what would be good beginner boards for us. Me(36) 6' and 195 pounds <BR> Boys(10)5' and 90 pounds <BR> (8) 4'7" and 75 pounds <BR>My sons snowboard so I am sure they will have plenty of time to laugh at dad while i learn. <BR> <BR>Thanks for any help

Was looking at used and new Boards. No real price range, would like to get something to learn on and then move to something nicer. The boat I am buying is a 2004 Calabria Pro V.

Rob, you need to be on a 141 or bigger board. Because of "our" age and weight, the bigger the board the softer the landings. As for the boys a 131 to 136 is big enough for them to grow in to. Don't buy into the fact that a smaller board is better. Shaun Murray is 5'6ish and a 150 nothing and rides a 142.

I tried to force my son into a larger board for him to grow into. He was 10 years old about 80 pounds at the time. It really slowed his progress becacue of the weight and length hampering the rotation for flips and spins. After a demo day on a 124 board I could see a clear difference in his board control. <BR>If your sons are good snowboarders and you think they will be serious about wakeboarding I would go with a smaller board even realizing they will out grow it in a couple years. My son road the 124 for 2 years then a 131 for 2 years and is now on a 135. He is 5-8, 135 pounds now.

I was looking at LF stance 143 for myself, anybody riding one?

Rob, I am 5'11" 195 and ride a LF substance 142. I tried a few and found that to fit my style. Our local ski shop rents out board to try. If you have that option I would give a few a try.

Rob, I would start out with a 142 board and go with a continuous rocker board. A continuous rocker will leave the wake smother and not buck you off axis. It will also teach you to edge correctly threw the wake for the biggest and best pop.

Look at a Liquid Force "Team" they used to make them in 142. I had a 139 and I'm 6'2 215 and I loved it. But I now ride an Absolute 141 and love that as well. Also the good thing about the team is you can take the center fins out for a whole different feel.

If you are just starting out and are new to the sport, check out the 06 CWB lineup with the Torq or Zeus Hinge Tech bindings. I would go to a shop and try to demo them before you buy anything. You will be glad you did, they make a hudge difference on getting in and out of youre bindings.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

Itch.... I'm a beginner and I felt that board was easy to ride and control for what I could do (not much)But I agree with you in rough water it was like riding on ice. But if he's from Yuba City area and rides the river out of K.L. not many days of rough water there....lol

How about the CWB Sol? <BR>

Its a great beginner board.Has been one of the best for years. You can get it in a 141cm w/ CWB Torqs with the hinge tech for 329.00 at most boardshops. <BR>Hard to beat that deal in my opinion for a beginner board pkg.
