I am about to buy my first wake boat and me and my two boys are going to learn to wakeboard. I was wondering what would be good beginner boards for us. Me(36) 6' and 195 pounds <BR> Boys(10)5' and 90 pounds <BR> (8) 4'7" and 75 pounds <BR>My sons snowboard so I am sure they will have plenty of time to laugh at dad while i learn. <BR> <BR>Thanks for any help

Are you lookin to buy new or used? Are you looking to buy strickly for wakeboarding, or wake and ski boat? Whats your price range?

hemihauler 01-31-2006 5:54 PM

Was looking at used and new Boards. No real price range, would like to get something to learn on and then move to something nicer. The boat I am buying is a 2004 Calabria Pro V.

Dude, just gets Hyperlite States. Can't go wrong with a state.

solo 01-31-2006 6:09 PM

Rob, you need to be on a 141 or bigger board. Because of "our" age and weight, the bigger the board the softer the landings. As for the boys a 131 to 136 is big enough for them to grow in to. Don't buy into the fact that a smaller board is better. Shaun Murray is 5'6ish and a 150 nothing and rides a 142.

mobv 01-31-2006 6:20 PM

I tried to force my son into a larger board for him to grow into. He was 10 years old about 80 pounds at the time. It really slowed his progress becacue of the weight and length hampering the rotation for flips and spins. After a demo day on a 124 board I could see a clear difference in his board control. <BR>If your sons are good snowboarders and you think they will be serious about wakeboarding I would go with a smaller board even realizing they will out grow it in a couple years. My son road the 124 for 2 years then a 131 for 2 years and is now on a 135. He is 5-8, 135 pounds now.

mjfan23 01-31-2006 6:35 PM

Ohh my bad, I apparently cant read... LOL, I thought u were asking about buying a boat.

airwarrior04 01-31-2006 7:22 PM

Rob you've got mail.

hemihauler 01-31-2006 8:40 PM

I was looking at LF stance 143 for myself, anybody riding one?

dan_forrest 01-31-2006 9:32 PM

Rob, I am 5'11" 195 and ride a LF substance 142. I tried a few and found that to fit my style. Our local ski shop rents out board to try. If you have that option I would give a few a try.

twakess 01-31-2006 9:46 PM

Rob, I would start out with a 142 board and go with a continuous rocker board. A continuous rocker will leave the wake smother and not buck you off axis. It will also teach you to edge correctly threw the wake for the biggest and best pop.

<blockquote><hr size=0><!-quote-!><font size=1><b>quote:</b></font><p>Dude, just gets Hyperlite States. Can't go wrong with a state. <!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote> <BR> <BR>apply poor fundamentals, yes, you can go wrong w/ a state. <BR> <BR>make a list of people's suggestions, then demo them. it's the only way you'll know what's right for you. like squid said though, try to find a board w/ continuous rocker. they're a lot "friendlier" to newbies. <BR> <BR>where are you in cali? i can suggest a shop (or two) for you to hit up for demos. <BR> <BR>also, you might want to get an instructional vid/dvd. it will help you out a lot! if you can, sign up for a class or two. no matter where you are in cali, i can point you to the person/school to make sure to check out. <BR> <BR>if you have ANY questions what-so-ever, don't be afraid to ask in here. most of the people here are very helpful. <BR> <BR>welcome to the addictive world of wakeboarding!

hillbilly 02-01-2006 3:57 AM

Look at a Liquid Force "Team" they used to make them in 142. I had a 139 and I'm 6'2 215 and I loved it. But I now ride an Absolute 141 and love that as well. Also the good thing about the team is you can take the center fins out for a whole different feel.

fullonsalesgrp 02-01-2006 4:57 AM

Rob <BR>Welcome to the addiction, Joe is spot on he knows a lot of people in you area and can hook you up. Like everyone will tell you DEMO DEMO DEMO it can not be said enough, that and ride what you like not what people tell you. <BR>Here are few ideas for you <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3085" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3085</a> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3018" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3018</a> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3147" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3147</a> <BR>And for your boys <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3132" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3132</a> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3152" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3152</a> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3196" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard7.asp?ProductID=3196</a>. <BR>I rep a new company that will be bringing boards into the states, Joe should have some samples soon so maybe you can hook up with him to try <BR>Concrete Boards. <BR> <BR>Jeff Do you think a progressive board like the Team is good for a beginner. He needs a friendlier board for rougher water. Just my 2 cents. <BR> <BR>ITCH

hemihauler 02-01-2006 6:44 AM

Thanks for all the help Guys, I live in Tierra Buena. Just outside of Yuba City and 40 miles north of Sacramento.

If you are just starting out and are new to the sport, check out the 06 CWB lineup with the Torq or Zeus Hinge Tech bindings. I would go to a shop and try to demo them before you buy anything. You will be glad you did, they make a hudge difference on getting in and out of youre bindings.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

hillbilly 02-02-2006 11:16 AM

Itch.... I'm a beginner and I felt that board was easy to ride and control for what I could do (not much)But I agree with you in rough water it was like riding on ice. But if he's from Yuba City area and rides the river out of K.L. not many days of rough water there....lol

hemihauler 02-02-2006 11:51 AM

How about the CWB Sol? <BR>

innov8 02-02-2006 12:26 PM

Its a great beginner board.Has been one of the best for years. You can get it in a 141cm w/ CWB Torqs with the hinge tech for 329.00 at most boardshops. <BR>Hard to beat that deal in my opinion for a beginner board pkg. The bindings sell by themselves for 200 bucks.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

wakedad33 02-02-2006 12:39 PM

Rob, if you are looking for used boards shoot me a PM, and i well make you some sweet deals I just counted the boards in my sons room, 9 and he hasent gotten his 06 boards yet.
