My new BLACK BEAUTY! - 2013 Epic 23V

Alright I just took delivery of this baby yesterday and to say i'm impressed is an understatement. I bought this boat, site unseen, and just went off of a boat load (he he) of pictures. With all the negative press these boats have been getting this was a HUGE risk on my part. As we went through the boat for the first time I was convinced that this thing was going to have fit and finish issues all over the place. That was not the case . . . at all. The is my second boat, first was a 2009 Supra 21V Launch. When I went through the Supra I found screws, nuts and washers all over the place under the seat cushions. On the Epic I found nothing. Also from a previous Epic post someone had posted the foam on the rear swim deck was misaligned. Not the case here, it was perfect.

Step 1, time to hit the water! This thing is a beast. First thing I noticed was how solid the boat felt. The resin hull handles chop like no bodies business. And the Samson tower was so solid I felt like taking on Big Foot in a tug-of-war match. On my Supra that thing shook from day one. Aside from calibrating the GPS and the cpu learning full throttle it was a normal day on the water.

Step 2, check the wake. With the ballast empty there was wash on the left side. Popped open the left tank for literally a few seconds and the problem was gone. On full ballast (4K 24mph) same issue, wash. We drained the right for a few seconds and the problem was gone. The wake is huge. Use just have to play with it and find out what works. On the Supra I never really did find the sweet spot, ha ha.

Step 3, Audio. Holy fcuking $hit, this system rocks. Wetsounds are the bomb. Yes being a Supra man I was a stock Polk audio man. This system could keep up with an AC/DC concert. The bass in this thing is IN-CREDIBLE. Why I never invested in Wetsounds equipment before I'll never know but now I will never buy anything else.

So far I haven't found one quality issue or have had anything malfunction. So only time will tell if I made the right choice and as of right now . . . I am one happy customer!

Beautiful boat! Congratulations!

MICAH_HARPER 06-07-2013 12:21 PM

MICAH_HARPER 06-07-2013 12:23 PM

one question though....how will those speakers hold up as far as surfing....i know when i stop to pick up a fllin rider i get a bunch of wash up against the back of the boat....just wondering how durable the WETSOUNDS are in the back....i have WETSOUNDS also in my MB...but just wondering

sweet, is that black vinyl the same old type that gets smoking hot or the new stuff that's textured and doesn't turn into a griddle in the sun..

venom93corba 06-07-2013 12:30 PM

Thanks guys, I've been smilin' ear to ear since yesterday. I am sooo happy with the boat. Micah as far as your question goes I'm sure I'll have have to let off the throttle a little easier. I can't wait to surf behind this.

venom93corba 06-07-2013 12:31 PM

I was told that this black vinyl was the new stuff and won't get as hot. I don't see how that possible though. Black is black, lol.

boardman74 06-07-2013 12:32 PM

Black and green looks good. I am curious how those speakers will hold up over the long run.

kmayotte 06-07-2013 1:20 PM

Forgive the line of questioning but what's bottom line price on this boat?

06-07-2013 1:39 PM

love it

monkey_butt 06-07-2013 1:46 PM

sweet looking boat ... love that green but wifey didn't want me to trade :-( ... congrats ... looked at your blue LEDs ... they are ligned up with the speakers perfectly - mine weren't so well ;-) had to move them a bit ...

and for those who always raise the same question: THE SPEAKERS ARE FINE IN THE TRANSOM!!! that myth is likely never going to die ... they're not getting washed over - regardless if I go in neutral at 10mph or 25mph and even if they would it wouldn't matter - would love to once have wetsounds themselves chiming in here ... they get more wet from my dogs than anything else ... and I like what I hear when I'm behind the boat ...

jonblarc7 06-07-2013 1:47 PM

Love the color combo

lifetimewarranty 06-07-2013 2:03 PM

Very nice...and clean. Other than my skin is scared of the black interior new style or old...that is a LOT of black interior.

What wetsounds are those in the rear? Are they horn loaded? (i.e.$6500 worth of speakers;))

post some pics of it on the water

Love the Caddy also...Nice setup!

slowwwflowww 06-07-2013 2:17 PM

And props to Epic for figuring out a way to get sound to rider without blowing eardrums in boat!!

jroyal 06-07-2013 2:19 PM

Now that is a sweet looking boat. :):)

These are the XS-650. I can't even imagine what the horn loaded speakers sound like.

Did you by chance have that boat at Mosite Motorsports in Pittsburgh? I remember seeing an Epic with what seems like the exact same color/coat paint scheme.

LYNRDSKYNRD 06-07-2013 4:14 PM

Beautiful boat man, congrats!

Damn...that is a big boat. Beautiful. I wish I could see all these WW boats in person.

phatboypimp 06-07-2013 4:48 PM

Friendly word of advice (maybe this is just a California thing) don't be in motion with those blue lights.....popo don't like that.

Kracker 06-07-2013 5:12 PM

how does the 2 rudders work?

venom93corba 06-07-2013 5:47 PM

Like a Porshe on the water :)

Just sold my epic due to family constraints, but I can vouch I think the 2 rudder system is brilliant. The boats handling is top notch and I actually had a pretty good amount of control in reverse compared to my old malibu and I think pretty much every other inboard.

Gotta figure you have twice the surface contact on the water, so turns and reversing in my opinion were amazing.

By the way, the boat looks amazing. Epic has come a long way since 2007, super clean and very user friendly boats. If only they could grow a little bit, I hated not having a dealer within 1000 miles out here on the west coast, but then again people would always be checking out my boat since they never saw another one. Probably be that way still at it's new home in Vegas.

It's a sharp looking boat. The tower is nicely styled and it has speakers for days.

MantisTaboggin 08-05-2013 6:37 PM

Very nice! Congrats! Curious as to why you didn't go with green lights is it not an option?

_vitty_ 08-05-2013 6:50 PM

Killer boat dude. Been loving mine for 5 seasons now. The transom audio never fails to impress just about anyone at the party cove.

Iceberg 08-05-2013 7:12 PM

Beautiful boat, with the classic nose! Enjoy your new ride. Wishing I had the quick ballast system!

A lot of people will stop to look it over where-ever you park! Anyone that has been near my 23V is just amazed by it. Anyone that has ever boarded behind it is amazed by. Anyone that has surfed behind is amazed by it. Anyone that has heard the sound wall behind is amazed by it. I know it sounds like I've been drinking the cool-aid, but it is true. Are there some things I would like changed? Yes, but the performance is second to none.

BTW, I need to reupholster my 07 this winter; your pics have given me some good ideas.

I think it is a bit of an illusion with picture being a little askew and the rudders turned.

Nice boat man.

venom93corba 08-06-2013 8:22 AM

Supposedly you can't used green or red because they are navigation lights.

psudy 08-06-2013 9:17 AM

What negative press has there been? I have never heard a bad word about Epic.

tyler97217 08-06-2013 10:13 AM

Nice work. Congrats!

kimper 08-06-2013 3:56 PM

Great looking boat!
Curious to see some nice sacced out surf waves from it!
How much did you buy it for?

DenverRider 08-06-2013 4:20 PM

Very nice boat. I love the black.

MantisTaboggin 08-06-2013 9:55 PM

Hmm.. I have green interior lights and a green light that shines down into the main seating area from my light bar. I also see a ton of boats on here with red lights too.
