What is the best way to weight a Malibu Wakesetter VTX... not the VLX? And do you use the wedge?

I have all factory ballast(bow) and the power wedge. Normally run and extra 1400-1700 additional depending on how many people in the boat. Run the power wedge all the way cown and then bump it up to where you like it.

When you drop the wedge down, is it supposed to lock? Is there a way to adjust the wedge at different angles or something???

Curt, if you have the power wedge you can adjust it anyway you like.

If you have the manual wedge, you can't adjust it.

all four tanks, plus power wedge unless you are a pro stock is all you need in my opinion.

BS.

All 4 tanks, Wedge up or not even on the boat, with an extra 600-1000lbs in the rear lockers and as much as you can store in the middle. I am unsure about the belly locker situation on that boat...

Properly weighted the boat is excellent. Stock weighted the boat is passable. I'm no pro and stock, the wake is not enough.

The boat itself is absolutely awesome. Beautiful, wide, pretty. It shows what can be done with a 20ft boat. Can't say I've seen space be used better by a boat that size before.

(Message edited by juniorhawk on April 25, 2008)

hey man everybody is entitled to their own opinion so you don't have to call it bs. the power wedge makes a big difference over no wedge. It is much bigger with it. You can't even put weight in the middle unless you put it above the floor. There is a ballast tank and a gas tank under the floor. If you add extra to the back you better put some peeps in the front expecially if you are running the power wedge. Once again, only my opinion, the vtx and the vlx are among the best stock wakes out there.

So wait, there is a different types of wedges that come on malibu? One just drops down and locks, the other can be adjusted at different angles?

And it sounds like if you decide to run without the wedge, just strictly weight, you need to tank the stern a bit more...

curtisco24 04-25-2008 12:04 PM

right on man. If you run manual wedge you need to add people or weight in the back. If you have power wedge, adjust that thing and you shouldn't need much extra if any.

What we need and what we want are two different things.

I want a BIG F-ing wake! I'll take it as big as you can make it please.
