Doods.........please tell me what I want to hear!
I was out ridin' the river today, when at the beginning of my second set, my driver shut the boat down. There was no one near us, and I motioned to keep going.......but they had "that look" on their face.

Well, they limp back over to me, and I hear "take off your board".....so I knew it could be bad. As they got closer I heard the "roughness".......and I thought there was no doubt they hit something and bent the prop. Once I got in, and shut everything down, I checked the engine compartment for any obvious problems.........I was then going to check the prop...........but before I did, I wanted to cruise and hear first hand the noise and feel the shutter. I cruised slowly, and nothing. Then faster......and nothing. I thought maybe we got something caught for a moment, and it shook free?? I ended up riding a long ass set back with NO problems at all! Checked the prop, etc...NO damage.....SOOOOOOOO, please tell me it may have been something getting sucked into the exhaust?? ANYTHING but engine trouble!!??

So what do you think??? I hate not knowing what the hell that was!!

THANKS!

I'd say a fuel issue and it was minor or see weed (or plastic) on the prop and it cleared itself.

we stuck some wood on the fin once, it came off but seemed real bad at first

I bet you hit something and got the object wedged in the fins, or the rudder. Probably just had to slow down or back up to kick it out. You may have had something wrapped about the prop also. The important thing is, it fixed itself.

Damn I hope you guys are right! I mean, that's what it felt like, and if it were something else, you think it would have happened again at some point.......?

"it fixed itself"...........If only that could be the norm, huh?

Thanks for the input! I'm crossing my fingers for the big weekend!

"at the beginning of my second set"

If by that you mean they literly were taking off, then the most likely cause would be weeds choking the prop. Super common in the Delta.

Running a boat in Clear Lake you will be backing up sharply every now and again to clear the weeds off.

Had a big net wrap on my buddy's new boat's prop...we were cruising at about 25mph then you heard a bogging and shuttering. I killed the motor and looked at him like "I have no idea"

Turns out we had a trolling net on our prop.

Thank god for sharp knifes.

I had a similar problem a couple times this year. Riding in the Ohio River there is lots of debris. I thought we messed something up - we were cruzing at like 30 and all of a sudden got lots of shaking/vibrations. I idled back and checked everything out. The next day - no problems. Then the next time, twice got the same thing. Since then, been out 3 times and no problems.

We just decided it was a small stick, bag, something that would catch and release from the prop/fins/rudder.

Scary as anything though. Thought we had big problems.

Well, I'm feeling better.....that it was something we shook free. It didn't happen when the crew was coming at me, because I could hear it, however, like Peter mentioned, I threw it in reverse to clear the shore...then killed it. After that is when it was fine! (Peter, I was up and riding all ready.....was just about to launch my wicked toeside nine.....when bam!)

Thanks for making me feel better! Party on this weekend!......and be safe.
