Mine was the 1998 O'brian heretic. Learned to get up and jump the wake in 1999. Did not touch a wakeboard until 2007 got a 2006 LF Team. What was your first board?

lfrider92 02-12-2009 7:44 AM

lf synergy 137

helix_rider 02-12-2009 7:47 AM

I think I started riding in 2000 as well, if you could call what I did 'riding', more like getting up and falling everytime I hit the wake TS, and got my first board, the 2001 Watson Helix soon thereafter...I loved snowboarding so wanted a 'finless' board (makes me laugh now having a Roam...but compared to the O'Brien my friend had with the 3 inch center fin...it was finless) I have it on my office wall, and actually pulled down to ride last year...thing felt like a tank, it sat so low in the water.

to_blind 02-12-2009 7:59 AM

Wake Tech Big Air w/Wiley Wraps...learned my first 3 and 5 on this board...I am guessing the year was 1995 or 1996?? Maybe earlier, we got this thing as soon as it hit the Canadian markets.

looked like this...if anyone knows what year, that'd be great just to jog my memory

ryan_shima1 02-12-2009 8:05 AM

started in 1994, first board I rode was the HL Perez but the first I owned was the Connelly Blade.

Derek, I think the Big Air came out in 93 or 94, but don't know for sure.

clubjoe 02-12-2009 8:08 AM

Started riding in 03?

Wanted somethin to ride when the water got too rough for my skis, so i picked up some no name board with sandal style bindings at a second hand sport shop. Once I figured out how to get up and jump a little, I bought an 03 Parks with spin bindings...

westsidarider 02-12-2009 8:17 AM

phenom_1819 02-12-2009 8:21 AM

1992 or so WakeSki. I sold it to a friend, and it just popped up again on Facebook! Glad to see she's alive and well, I'm trying to buy it back with no luck. He's keeping it... becuase he's still using it (I'd argue he's abusing it...).

(Message edited by phenom_1819 on February 12, 2009)

adamsilcio 02-12-2009 9:48 AM

started in summer of 2006, bought the '04 CWB prodigy. i only have a couple years under my belt... but enough riding to have a bad knee, two bad shoulders, bad ankle.... but a good bag of tricks for only riding that long.

justinh 02-12-2009 9:51 AM

1996: Neptune Impala

wazzy 02-12-2009 9:55 AM

andy_nintzel 02-12-2009 11:13 AM

A bright Pink Skurfer Launch. Bought directly from Tony Finn at the MPLS boat show in like 1991.

detonate69 02-12-2009 11:19 AM

08 Hyperlite Bside

wakerider111 02-12-2009 11:37 AM

Obrien Evil Twin 1997

but before that i had this heavy thing made by "38 off" (sold it long ago) it had this aluminum looking top and then what seemed to be a plastic bottom. it was twin tip but it was set up to be unidirectional with strap type bindings. it later lost its rocker when the person i sold it too left it in the boat in the HOT garage and it warped? I rarely count it as my first board

zuka666 02-12-2009 2:09 PM

Obrien Double Ender - 1996

jtnz 02-12-2009 2:35 PM

Started in 06, LF Stance was my first board, cool board I still ride it now and then.

I rode with my cousins once before that, I think some Hyperlite board in 2001 but I don't really remember.

themann39 02-12-2009 2:55 PM

Early 90's Obrien Extra Vert. I still have that thing in the garage up at the lake.

02-12-2009 2:56 PM

2003 Hyperlite Belmont DNA

liquidmalibu 02-12-2009 3:41 PM

Connelly clutch - around 1997

And i got a free vhs tape called "Skiboarding 101".
It starred Zane Schwank and a very young Rob Struharik, my favourite trick on that video was the ole surface 360. haha

wakemikey 02-12-2009 3:53 PM

First board was the Connely Blade - wicked purple directional.

Second board, and my fav, I bought Liquid Force's first ever wakeboard model, the Liquid Force Free 135 . Twin tipped with little rocker and not much width. But when they made the Squirt, they realy hit gold!

I didn't buy it because it was brand new and hyped, but because of a blurb in the front of WBM talking about Jimmy Redmond and Tony Finn taking this company in a new direction and their reputations then and now and how well LF has done, I think speaks for itself!

(Message edited by wakemikey on February 12, 2009)

bill 02-12-2009 4:20 PM

HL big Kahuna with sandle wraps then a few weeks later i found a better one 97/98 Obrien Evil twin with mid mac wraps was a light blue and had some razor sharp unforgiving faceplant rails ;)

02-12-2009 5:12 PM

Mine was a 97' Blindside board can't even remember the name half white half blue.

With Rainbow Fins! Anyone else down with the A-tec Rainbow fins?

kylepower8 02-12-2009 6:32 PM

Full throttle, straight from target. hahah.

dkmode34 02-12-2009 6:53 PM

yeah I had that ugly bright pink thing from Wal mart that says full throttle! Classic!

dmcguirt23 02-12-2009 11:37 PM

First board I got up on was an Obrien evil twin, maybe the 1998 model? it was teh light blue one. First board I owned was a CWB Phantom 147 as a 120 lb. 7th grader! It was about as big as i was!

wakebrdr38 02-13-2009 6:57 AM

first got up on a 99 lf trip 128. Then got myself a 99 neptune gto. man that board was fast for a beginner!

jjakober 02-13-2009 7:12 AM

91 and whatever that first HO compression molded board was.

eternalshadow 02-13-2009 7:20 AM

First boards that I rode were the waketech flight 69 and what must have been an 96/97 perez.

The first board I owned was a 98 LF Best Board. That thing charged and popped pretty damn big.

timmy 02-13-2009 7:22 AM

O'Brien Apex

I would guess it was '92 or '93

snowboardcorey 02-13-2009 9:43 AM

Not the first board I rode but the first one I plunked down my own cash on. 1997 Sound Harris Pro.

trentj6930 02-13-2009 9:55 AM

wazzy 02-13-2009 10:00 AM

ryan_shima1 02-13-2009 10:22 AM

I thought the Sound boards were awesome!

epic1 02-13-2009 10:56 AM

first board I ever got up on was an old uni directional ho. then I got an obrien evil twin. Like a 98 maybe. the yellow one. it was super sweet!

onthewatermo 02-13-2009 11:07 AM

Duvall - Victory Assured (serious phasers on the bottom)

tommmyd 02-13-2009 1:19 PM

That sound board just above was awesome! KD 55 was the first one I bought. Learned on a Hyperlite shapiro pro directional.

ldr 02-14-2009 8:35 AM

The first time i got up was on an old Hyperlite in 93, The first board I ever owned was a double up Nelson 138 with the alien on it.

bboozer 02-14-2009 9:13 AM

Damn I am old!!! my 1st was a Skurfer launch probably in 1988 or maybe 87... Then I move up to a Skurfer Rage and I was really in the big time when I got the Hyperlite Pro (directional compression board) that Darin Shapiro rode with the sandal bindings and that was probably 1994 or so (I still have that one) but now I have a new '08 Murray with the '08 Murray bindings... I did ride a Wake Tech big dog with high wraps back in the day and I actually pulled off my 1st raley on that board....

dohboy 02-14-2009 9:54 AM

My first ride was a skurfer with those bungee straps. My first twin tip was the hyperlite BAFF (bad ass flying fish). That thing weighed a ton.

scbrips 02-14-2009 9:18 PM

I started in the summer of '95 (the summer of 69). My first board was the Special Edition Flight 69 From Wake Tech. Now it's signed by none other than the two legends who made this board, well, legendary...

(Message edited by scbrips on February 14, 2009)

lives2wake 02-15-2009 7:09 AM

SCBrips....damn...that's awesome! If I had that, it would be framed and behind glass. Wow

My first board was a LA Ski which was pretty much the same board as the Flight 69 or Perez

fullonsalesgrp 02-15-2009 9:41 AM

Neptune SIX the first production twin tip

bboozer 02-16-2009 5:03 AM

What ever happened to Wake Tech?? Wasn't Tony Finn the head man there after he sold Skurfer?? and isn't he not the head guy at Liquid Force??? Did Wake Tech turn into liquid Force or what??? Just wondering since they were the first to come out with a twin tip and really started the wakeboard revolution... I have always wondered... Anyone know the Wakeboard History????

wazzy 02-17-2009 10:04 AM

Wake Tech tried to make a come back ... back in 04 I think.... It didn't last long.....

skelley19 02-17-2009 8:37 PM

I believe you are correct about Tony Finn being with Wake Tech before he started LF, but if I remember correctly Wake Tech was still around for a few more years after LF came along so I believe they were separate entities.

I first started riding in 93 or so and my first board was a huge directional O'Brien Apex with sandal bindings. I remember trying to take TS 180s wake to wake and they were almost impossible because the bindings were mounted so far back towards the tail. I finally said screw it and started going for TS 3's instead and somehow nailed one that first day of trying them....then spent about next 5 years or so getting them consistent

My first twin tip was a LF Free 135. That board was a tank but I probably learned half my trick bag riding it.

jjakober 02-17-2009 8:53 PM

Shawn,

180 on the directional boards were so hard. The TS 360 was my first spin also! Here is a short video(2 min.) from way back when, riding the HO Rage with sandal bindings:

http://www.wakefirst.com/video/670217:Video:3302

mikes 02-17-2009 9:09 PM

Hahaha that's awesome J.

Like the suit too Wish I was riding back then.I got goin at the ripe old age of 36

wakedad33 02-17-2009 9:21 PM

Not my first, but I loved this older board, 97 or 98 Icon, Jeremy Kovak pro model, soooo fast.
