My new (to me) boat!

1999 Air Nautique. Direct drive less than 400 hours on it. Little nervous because I didn't have a mechanic look it over (maybe that was dumb? ). There are no vibrations, shifted smooth, no water in the oil, changed it this weekend and didn't leak any, and ran like a top all weekend. I had to jump on it right away w/ the price I got it for hopefully I won't pay for it in maintenance. Can't wait 'til Memorial day weekend to ride it! I would like to thank everyone on the forum for helping me out and giving me feedback along the way to make sure I got the boat that would work best for me!

Nice ride! That GT-40 is a really nice motor and '99 was a good year for Nautiques. Looks like she has overheated a time or two. Would not hurt to go ahead and replace the impeller for good measure and get a better exhaust hose that covers the manifold better.

Nice looking ride. It looks like it was well taken care of.

What are those long skinny things to the right of the engine in that pic? ;)
Nice score, I hope it is as good of a deal as you say it was. I had a 93 sport as my last boat, nearly the same. I loved that boat, and you could not beat it for ease of repair either. |
The one that started it all! That's a fine looking boat someone took very good care of the outside I would think they did the same for the mechanical systems . I wouldn't worry about it after all its a Nautique.:)

Awesome looking boat man, congrats!
Alan, Just curious how you can tell it has overheated before? I have a similar setup with a DD and I have been having some overheating problems myself so I was just wondering how you were able to tell and maybe help me with my issue, thanks. And congrats again, you'll love it! |

And the fix to that is normally a new impeller or engine thermostat from what I hear, right?

Yep. I am guessing that it has overheated more than once because it has two different exhaust tubes and neither one are OEM. If the impeller goes out or the strainer gets clogged, it will starve the engine of water, thus overheating and dry exhaust manifolds = melted exhuast tubes. Also looks like there are some burn marks on the port side of the engine box.

He did replace the impeller this season and it ran at 170 all weekend. So hopefully that was the issue and it was fixed. Thanks guys!
