Our pocket was not very long in choppy waters yesterday, is there things we can do to make it more surfable? Increase/decrease speed, add ballast, etc...

Maybe slowing down would help; we've never had to slow down for choppy water.

Not sure how bad, bad conditions are for you. I say just ride. Learning to ride in rough conditions is a worthwhile still; it will improve your riding when conditions are better. If you can stay in the pocket when it's rough your pocket will be bigger when it’s calm.

Agreed, but if it's so choppy you're getting rocked off list your screwed.

If the chop is noticeably flowing in one particular direction (with river current or from wind blowing a specific direction), surf with the flow, not into/against the chop flow. That's seems to help a little.

Ya, we noticed going downwind helped as well.

Put the kids out the back.
They'll ride anything.
