Driving back to the dock yesterday we saw this boat with their own interesting and original kind of ballast.. It was hilarious, and as they were riding whenever they'd stop or start the tops would come off and water would splash everywhere....

But I gotta give it to them, at least they are out there trying.....

Yeah...I have a friend who sacks out his old Nautique with rubbermaids that he buckets water into. But he is 10x the rider I am, so like you said...whatever it takes to get the wake.

Never seen that. Atleast they got wake now.

salsajs3030 09-19-2008 6:48 PM

That's awesome...good for them!

I used to use rubbermaid totes. I could fill and empty them in about 1 minute tops

Used to use one fat sack, two coolers full of water, and a rubbermaid tub filled with weights and then water. It was a 95 sea ray that we mounted an extended pylon to, and then clamped some wood blocks to and added a pair of infinity 6100m tower speakers with the PA mic. Was a pretty unique setup on the water XD

Was glad to upgrade to a mobius LSV

We used to do the same with old 5 gallon peanut oil containers (that we did some dumpster diving for). We left them filled up at a hidden spot and would just ride by a pick them up when it was time for sets.

Theres an old tri star at the river we ride at. They fly a huge Texas flag from their pylon and have 2 55 gallon drums sitting in the back of the boat full of water. One of the dudes can throw down some tricks to

We used to have a similar set up. My buddy found these jugs that use to house some sort of liquid...anyway, they were about 10 gallons each and we had about 12 of them on the boat. It was a pain to have to dip them in the water everytime we went and out and then empty them when we were done. But it certainly worked for our needs!

lfxstar 09-21-2008 4:52 PM

we would take those water jugs from my parents and fill the boat up with them. The big 30 pounders. We would just take 5-6 empty bottles, fill them up with lake water and disperse them throughout the boat along with the 5-6 sacks I'm the type that the wake is NEVER BIG ENOUGH

lfxstar 09-21-2008 4:53 PM

Nick, you must be talking about the same jugs, the ones you put in the water coolers that your mom always asks you to lift because they are too heavy for her? It was a huge pain to fill those suckers

goinbigg17 09-21-2008 8:44 PM

Nope, these were some sort of industrial use jug. We found them at AAA liquidation. They smelled like Mt. Dew syrup...

davomaddo 09-21-2008 9:38 PM

We used to fill the rubber maids with sand and dirt (because it wouldn't splash out) until my buddies parents found out about it.

good idea but i gotta hold my breath 5 ft from my cans i think id vomit if i had my garbage cans in my boat. good cheap ballast, gotta give em credit. word!!!

andy_nintzel 09-22-2008 8:59 AM

Nothing wrong with that. My first Ballast was a 55 gallon drum with no top on it! It splashed EVERYwhere and everyone!~

I have 3 barrels that I got from a friend at work. They are barrels that are used to ship large quantities of raw protien. The best part is they have a nice water tight seal on the top. Each one with water in it probably weighs close to 80-90 lbs. I've used them for almost 10 yeats now and they work great.
