Lots of guys can do wrapped 9's, but does anyone on here know of anyone trying a wrapped 1080? Just curious..

waterdork88 05-07-2008 10:21 AM

i've seen a few videos of wrapped 7s. have yet to see a wrapped 9... got any video? was it wrapped around almost twice or wrapped once and handle passed on the second?

kyle_m 05-07-2008 10:26 AM

wraps are sick but when you look at a guy like brian hutton spinning it kinda shows that inorder to getthere theres no need for a wrap.
but im gunna guess there will be attempts sumday thatll be sick to because they can grab the entire first 3

jarrod 05-07-2008 10:32 AM

Hutton spins like a top. Watched him stick 2 7s and a 9 in one set over the weekend.

kyle_m 05-07-2008 10:42 AM

agreed j-rod watchin him in the DU comp was enough for me i wish i stuck around and rode on sunday so i could have seen a lil bit of his free riding

KYLE MURPHY DOES A TS WRAPPED 9, BUT I DON'T HAVE A VIDEO OF IT...PRETTY SURE VANDALL HAS A HS WRAPPED 9 TOO...62LINCOLN, CAN YOU CONFIRM??

sidekicknicholas 05-07-2008 12:01 PM

I'm pretty sure there is a wrapped 9 in transgression

cooney20 05-07-2008 12:02 PM

murphy does a wrapped 9 in the video "Authentic". And his part in that video is DOPE!

shredsickgnar 05-07-2008 12:02 PM

Randall does a wrapped HS 9 off the double up and a wrapped TS 9 off the wake in Transgression and Drive.

andy_nintzel 05-07-2008 12:21 PM

water dork,

I dont think any body ever wraps twice, sounds like a good way to get jacked.

waterdork88 05-07-2008 12:50 PM

well for someone that doesnt know what they are doing. yes. but for a professional i could see it happening

to_blind 05-07-2008 12:56 PM

SOUNDS LIKE WE COULD VERY WELL SEE A WRAPPED 1080 IN THE NEAR FUTURE. PERSONALLY, I CAN'T WAIT. LETS JUST HOPE ITS DONE WITH A LEGIT GRAB.
ANY PREDICTIONS ON WHO WILL DO IT FIRST?? AND JUST FOR KICKS, DOES ANYONE AGREE THAT THIS FEAT COULD BE CONSIDERED A LITTLE MORE GNARLY THAN A HANDLE-PASS 1080?? HAHA HERE WE GO....

andy_nintzel 05-07-2008 1:38 PM

I LOVE CAPS LOCK!

smylie 05-07-2008 1:55 PM

CAPS LOCK IS AWESOME. IT REALLY EMPHASIZES WHAT I NEED TO SAY!

to_blind 05-07-2008 1:59 PM

SORRY andy, my job requires i type in capital letters...so sometimes, especially on forums, PEOPLE THINK THAT I CAN NOT CONTROL THE TONE OF MY VOICE AND THAT I AM ALWAYS YELLING...when really, I am just too lazy to hit capslock.

andy_nintzel 05-07-2008 3:00 PM

sorry had too-

rebuiltagain 05-07-2008 3:28 PM

If anyone is gonna land it...Ever...Its gonna be Randall. Most of his spins are wrapped and he goes the bigger than most riders so it just makes sense for him to throw the other 180 in there first

srh00z 05-07-2008 5:08 PM

Is Randall even in the hunt? I don't doubt that he can do it wrapped, it just seems like he rides for the sake of style. He would have to throw a grab in there to make it a legit trick for him.

hawk7 05-07-2008 7:08 PM

He tried a wrapped 9 and got close on in this vid. http://videos.wakeboardingmag.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=664&title=2007_Parks__D ouble_or_Nothing_Competition

waterdork88 05-07-2008 9:15 PM

as much as i would like to see it. i think it will be a while just because i dont think there are any professionals that are motivated to work on that specific trick.

anodyne 05-07-2008 9:20 PM

Haha... so true water dork, so true.

a trick that's more irritating to land, AND worth less in terms of style points (unless it's Randal, and he's grabbing the WHOLE THING like he tends to do)...

schuey 05-08-2008 1:47 AM

Just to clarify, a wrapped 9 or wrapped 10 would only be wrapped for the 1st rotation right, you still have to handle pass for the 2nd or 3rd rotation right!?

waterdork88 05-08-2008 8:12 AM

looking at this as if you dont count handle passes in the front. and the each spin would be entirely wrapped

on ts wrapped 360s, 540s, and 720s. it would only be wrapped a half. if you look at it in the sense that you wrap your arm around your back the other half.

900s, and 1080s would have the rope wrapped all the way around the body one and a half times

i think thats right... feel free to correct me

as of yet i have only seen people try to do a wrapped 9 with only the half wrap plus a handle pass. as sick as that trick is. i'd like to see someone do a 9 full and a half wrapped.

to_blind 05-08-2008 8:30 AM

water dork, please don't encourage people to wrap the rope around themselves 1-1/2 times. Thats just asking for it, and by the time you unwind there would be nothing left to speak of regarding style or control. Hope someone gives this a try though, it'd be cool to see another type of 1080 go down.

waterdork88 05-08-2008 8:38 AM

if a pro wants to try it then i'm all for it. i enjoy watching different variations of spinning. wrapping it 1-1/2 times means that they can grab it one way. let go and choose to grab it again. now that just sounds rediculous, but its possible.

schuey 05-08-2008 8:57 AM

If you wrap the rope around your body 1.5 times your just gonna get yanked over aren't you... its hard to get your head round without having a handle in front of you! At the least I know if i ever tried to wrap the rope round 1.5 times before doing anything I would fall immediately!
