does anyone know why my 06 V-ride with the illusion tower is so much shorter than a lot of other boats??

westsiderippa 09-22-2007 6:42 PM

that is just the design of the tower, with the proper bimini on top of the tower and using the the stock mounts for lighting and tower speakers it will be fine. it takes some getting use to, i went from a sanger with a proflight chubby tower, one of the tallest towers in its class, to my vlx with an illusion x. i hit my head a couple times but it will grow on you.

spherren 09-23-2007 8:19 PM

Seems the taller the tower the better the ride would be for tricks behind the boat

mcwakerider 09-23-2007 8:50 PM

most of the time i dont think you'll be going that huge to where you have to worry about a tower pulling you down... the tower didnt hurt chad with his grabbed double backroll

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 7:23 AM

Seriously scotter are you really going that big?

woreout 09-24-2007 7:45 AM

Its short so it doesnt hit the windshield when folded down.

spherren 09-24-2007 7:59 AM

No I just started wakeboarding for 2 years now. Just figured a taller tower would make it easier to get air.

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 8:09 AM

But if it's like a MC tower it's gonna shake like a mofo. The only tall rock solid tower I've seen is the Titan 3.

woreout 09-24-2007 8:33 AM

It shakes alright, I think it does that to keep off the spiders and bird poop, sorta self cleaning.
One thing for sure though you dont need a piece of wood to hold up the tower so it doesnt wreck the dash, like you do with the BU's. Nothing like a 50-70k boat that you need to make a trip to Home Depot to complete it.

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 9:16 AM

I know you only need a 10 lb. piece of aluminum to complete yours and keep if from falling apart

wakeboardnut 09-24-2007 10:27 AM

lol

my buddies x-7 zeroflex tower sounds like ist going to fall apart through every doubleup

woreout 09-24-2007 11:09 AM

X7 double up, now thats funny(kinda like jumbo shrimp). Factory aluminum or a 2x4 from Home Depot Hmmmmm which is better?

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 11:18 AM

Still a crappy design by mc, don't hate on the illusion cause you mc guys can't keep their towers together. Oh don't they have a load rating on them, no more than 2 tower speakers on tower at any time or tower will self destruct...

Oh and no hard cuts while wakeboardign or the tower will fold over. Must be anoyying hearing those towers screaming for mercy all day long.

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 11:19 AM

Billy I do agree this looks a little ghetto, I just throw a towel on my dash. But then again I don't leave my tower down for more than a few minutes, definetely don't tow with it down.

woreout 09-24-2007 11:26 AM

The only screams for mercy I hear on the lake is Malibus Wedge as its pulling out of the transom.

Down here on the Chain of Lakes we have to put our towers down and still be able to drive cuz of all the low bridges in the canals. Its nice to go lake to lake but the canals suck.

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 1:06 PM

Billy please you know that wedges don't pull out of the transom , they might shear a bolt now and again but you know that's been fixed.

It's gotta suck wiping down all that exposed fiberglass inside your boat, it's nice just busting out the vacuum for a quick cleanup.

wakeboardnut 09-24-2007 1:16 PM

lol, nu bu's done his research

woreout 09-24-2007 1:27 PM

nu bu gotta love that mildew smell that all that wall to wall carpet grows.
Is your season over up there?

05mobiuslsv 09-24-2007 1:31 PM

Fortunately there are a few soldiers left, I being one of them. Forcast calls for rain almost all this week and cold, <60 degrees. Most of the wallies are done for the season though. I'm going to try to hang in there till Nov. Billy seriously I'm from washington you think a little mildew is gonna bother me.

(Message edited by 05mobiuslsv on September 24, 2007)

Yeah your right the mildew probably isnt as big a issue up there as it is here. When it stays 90 degrees through out the night for 6 months it tends to be a problem.
