I'm screwing around with premiere 6.5 right now. Is the only way to view your work in timeline the preview option? Do you always need to wait for it to render before you can view your work, or is there a lower quality preview option?

I can't find the premiere video tutorials that i had bookmarked on my other computer.

no - you don't have to render, tho it does give you a better view of it, especially if you've got a lot of effects going. don't hit the enter button to view, use the spacebar. this will play the vid without rendering.

here's a good link for tutorials:

http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/videotutorial/tutorials.htm

You need to setup your project to allow for real-time viewing.

Start a new project, you should see a list of options for NTSC, NTSC - widescreen, PAL, etc... find the one that has "real-time" preview. That should do it.

If you are still having problems, let me know and I'll write up step-by-step direction once I get home this evening

Open Premiere
File > New Project (or do CTRL + N)
Select "DV - NTSC Real-time Preview"

In "Real-time" preview mode you need to use the ENTER button to play your timeline with your effects.

The SPACE bar will play the time line without your effects/fades/etc..
Christopher- Thanks for the link. The problem is i didn't see a tutorial on there titled premiere 6.5 for morons.

KungFuManChew- Thanks that was my problem all along. I would try and play around with premiere by putting in a few clips and a few transitions. Then when i would try and play it, i could never see my transitions so i would just get frustrated and quit. Thanks maybe I'll try and learn it now.

BOARDMAN CHOP!

Karate chop!

Cool, stick with it. Once you get over that initial hump it's simple to use.
