Hey guys my son see's me wakeboarding and wants to get started. It sucks telling him he's not big enough yet. What do you guys think, is he big enough? Do they even make any equipment that would even fit him?

Not too young at all. At first, I took my daughter when she was 6, but would hold her between my legs while I was riding on my board. <BR> <BR>Many companies make boards &amp; bindings specifically designed for kids.

He's plenty big enough, I had my 4 year old daughter out on a training ski this past summer, and her sister, who is now 2, will probably be trying it next summer. They make wakeboards small enough for him, the hard part with kids is getting them to hold on to the rope, that's why training ski's are good to get them used to being towed. <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/736881.jpg" alt="Upload">

My daughter got up on a wakeboard at the age of 6. Unfortunately I couldn't get her to maintain interest in the sport.

Both of my daughters skied before they turned 3. <BR>The kneeboard is probably the easiest to get them started on.

Don't forget to tell them to let go when they fall!

We started him on the kneeboard already. Someone had to be in the water to hold the board flat eliminating the need to climb up and he does great hold on to the rope. But im just thinking how the hell is ever gonna get up on a wakeboard.

I've gotten a couple youngins out of the water. My experience was they popped right out of the water with the large surface area. They just have problems turning their hips and getting control.

Anyone know what size board I should be conidering? I've got a 6 and an 8 year old that I hope can share the same board. I checked my son shoes sz 1

is your 8 year old a girl or boy? I have bindings that will fit a size 1-3.. they are white..

Our nephew started at 3.5 and our niece just got up at 6.5 by herself. She got up with my husband riding next to her on a kneeboard at 5.

I don't think there is a right age, but six is def. doable. Could be younger or older and really depends how comfortable they are in the water, if they know how to swim, how adventurous and coordinated they are and most importantly how interested they are. Sounds like your little man has the interest. <BR> <BR>For the little ones, I think it helps to take the water sports in steps. Tube to get them used to going behind a boat with a little speed, kneeboard or training skis to get them used to holding a handle, and then wakeboard.

My daughter skis at 4 and son was skiing at 6. The wakeboard didn't work out and they want to ski. Just let them initiate it and don't push it too hard. That way, if they do a face plant it's not your fault. We(mom and dad) ride as often as possible, but make the kids beg for a turn.

Six is definitely old enough especially if he is asking to go. Do a little doubles so you can talk him through the start and jitters then prepared to do a lot of driving.

Six... for sure. Daughter went from the boom to the handle on the boom to the back in 1 day. Having used combos and tubed helped. No fear of the water.

I am going to buy a board for my nephews. My plan is to put a tube behind the boat and let the person in the tube hold the wakeboarding line. That way when they fall, the person holding the line can let go (maybe even attach a handle to both ends of a short rope section so it would be easier to hold onto). Has anybody tried something like this? I was gonna do that for their first few rides until they get it figured out.

Should be no problem. Aj was on training skis at 4, wakeboarding by himself at 5. It depends on the kid as long as they want to do it they will. Let them make that choice.

.....u can pull them up on the beach by hand until they stay up longer than you can run.....when my son went behind the boat at 8 he then got up first time...as he could always do it at the beach. We had a 5 year old up....her dad just held her and the board up so she didnt have to get up. She stayed squatted and went all around the lake no prob.

My 6 year old got up this year no problem. He rides a Hyperlite Motive and size LG Youth bindings. This combo should work for the next couple of years. Once he grows out of it, my daughter can use it. 6 is definitely not to young to ride. I would just make sure they are comfortable in the water floating with the board. You should also make sure they can flip themselves over when they crash face first....this is important. You don't want them freaking out with their face buried in the water while you get the boat turned around.

You can hold the other end of the rope on the platform while running a short rope and jump into the water when they fall. Do this until their confidence is built and work in small steps. Doubles is also good for this.

Pull the kids at 15. <BR> <BR>My 3 year old strapped on his brothers' 121 and took two pulls. Didn't get up but what a trooper. <BR> <BR>6 yr old gets up no problem. surfs, kneeboards, and kid skis. The 3 yr old loves to surf with dad.

I started my daughter when she was 5 on a 127 board. Idling is 'Hit It' and she started off at about 5 mph. She's 6 now and is most comfortable at 13 mph. Add bow weight or put the passengers up there to keep the wake smaller. She watches her brother (10) and just tries to do what he does. Tommy that was great, You need to take a snap shot of the video with your son next to the wake. Then next time somebody post "how big is your wake" you say shoulder high and show the pic.

My daughter has been on the water since she was five and started skiing around seven. Looking back now to me it is never tooo early to get them started. Tommy that is really impressive. He looks really comfortable too. It's funny watching him put his whole body into it just to get outside the wake. Could have a little PARKS on your hands.
