where should I put the paddle wheel on my 2000 xstar? under the gas tank behind the plug?

call perfect pass, I relied on a local dealer for my boat and some "tips" from on here and had to haev it re-done. PP will tell you the exact place.

good advice from Adam, I believe they will tell you to put it just in front of the square molded-in recess on the Port side; between the front edge of the square and the gas tank.

Make sure that there is NOTHING in front of it that could possibly throw a "wake" over the paddle wheel.

You want it mounted far enough forward and to the side so that the skeg fins won't throw a wake on it. Make sure that there isn't a ballast or engine water intake anywhere ahead it either.

Rod

in that boat (same as mine), it goes where Rich said. Specifically, exactly 6 inches center to center from the molded in hole and the center of the hole you will drill. Keep the same distance from the centerline of the boat. It will fairly close to the gas tank. Here is an example pic (not my boat but another 205V).
