What lens should i use for this weekend in Houston? I will be using my Rebel XSi.

I own the following:
Canon 50mm f/1.4 (I plan to use in the pits before the race- this is my favorite lens)
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
Also, the kit lens Canon EF-s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

Should I shoot in shutter priority most of the time? Thanks for the help.

I imagine the 100-400 is what you will want for shooting the race. Not sure how close your seats are or what pictures you hope to get though.

I'm not even going to try and answer the second question though, cause I still have no clue what I should be using half the time

I think my seats are pretty good. I was trying to pull strings to get a media pass so I could shoot from the infield but I think that fell through.

The 100-400 for sure and shutter priority. I think you'll be at 400mm the whole time from the seats.

Once you get the shutter speed dialed for wheel spin you can keep it there. Practice your panning technique ahead of time if you can.

The difference between lousy shots and great ones is having the perfect shutter and panning combination. Experimenting the day of the race isn't the best way to find out what that is. Then again if you're a ways away it won't be as critical as your pans will be very slow. I'd start at about 1/200th and go from there.

What Rich said and i would try to get in early and shoot some of the earlier races You will get more freedom to roam around the stadium and get some shots closer up
