hi im looking for a new boat i want a boat with a huge wake but that cant also pull a single skier with a decently small wake. i also would prefer it is garage friendly.
thanx

huge wake and skiable small ski wake doesn't really go together too well. to get a huge wake your going to have to add a lot of ballast to pretty much any of the boats out there. you might want to check out a Tige 22ve. add some weight or people to it, put taps to 8 and you'll have a exellent wakeboard wake. drain the ballast out and put the taps system to 1 and you'll have a small skiable wake. with the 22ve you'll also get one of the best surf wakes out there.

the small wake for skiing is only for one person so its at the bottom of the list of prioritys so with that aside.... what boat?

Sean good luck with getting any real answers if you want a huge wake buy some sort of V drive 24ft and put in an after market ballast system with the biggest bags you can get put them everywhere. No one with a "HUGE" wake rides stock. If your just a beginner it wont matter I have friends that do inverts on an old MC VRS200 with NO ballast.

centurion falcon V is in the process of gettin certified for 3 event sking. it a V-drive. really good price too.

Check out the Malibu VTX. With monsoon 340 and power wedge, you can load it up for a great wakeboard wake---empty, it is a nice ski wake. The boat handles better than any boat I've driven, has a ton of room for a 20' boat and is super garage friendly.

The Nautique 211 is a v-Drive crossover that with some weight will throw a big wakeboarding wake and with no weight is going to be the best ski wake in a vdrive out.

26lacefield 05-12-2008 8:17 AM

whats the price range that you want to stay in. theres so maybe out out there that would work for what you want but to narrow it down you need to figure out how much you want or can afford to spend.

mastercraft x-7's are ••••••• rad. You really have to load up the ballast if you want a big wake cuz its partly flat bottomed for skiers. Also if you want a huge wake, yer probably looking at buying after market ballast. I used to ride behind an x-7 and i loved every minute of it. Also the moomba outback is similar but i've never ridden behind one of those.

I second the nautique 211 ive rode one sacked out n loved it but it also can throw a pretty sick ski wake ...you might also look at the Tige Z1

deltaboy 05-12-2008 10:59 AM

Wakecraft direct drive. Pretty good for skiing and great for boarding.

Sean,

this post is pretty worthless unless you decide what you want and lay down some limitations.

1. Price -- how much is too much?
2. Size -- how long is too long for your garage.
3. New vs Used -- what is your reliability threshold?

i was lucky in that living on a private lake i pretty much only had 2 new boats to choose from. w/o any limitations other than wanting to ski and wakeboard nearly any boat would work for you...

newty 05-12-2008 12:53 PM

Hows about you test drive some boats you can afford and let us know. Everyone has an opinion and most of the time no two opinions are the same. Boat brand loyalty is where most opinions come from.
When it comes down to it its your opinion that counts.
Dealers love to give free rides! Its also a good way to feel out if the dealer is right for you.
Just another opinion.

06 or newer MC X2 with wake plate for skiing and the flyhigh ballast set up for boarding. As a side note, I can surf rope less behind my X2 with a driver only, port tank and sac full as well as KGB and front sac full. All and all, the new style X2 is a "swiss army knife"

kko13 05-12-2008 5:24 PM

id go 22ve. sv211 ski wake is sub par IMPO. tige makes the best crossover boat hands down. some might make better wakes for this or that but when it comes to crossover tige is at the top and everybody else is playing catch up. test drive one you will feel/see the difference. hydro gate is a joke you cant even really tell the difference in the wakes with it up or down. taps works awsome and you will see the change in the wake. the wake really gets soft with the taps on slalom and peaks and stiffens in wakeboard mode. add ballast to wakeboard mode and wake is huge. other companies have tried to add a wakeplate but without the convex V hull its just not as effective. again try one you will see what a true crossover boat will do.

lknboarder 05-12-2008 5:45 PM

Gotta to go with the MC X-15 it is one heck of a boat and very underrated

tria1982 05-14-2008 8:13 AM

Check out a Tige 22ve or the z1 (21 ft V-drive). It works with the water using a taps plate so it is more fuel efficient than most. If you want a huge wake add ballast and you get a huge kick off the wake b/c the taps plate shapes it. They both provide a crisp slalom wake. The Z1 has a better slalom wake out of the 2. Take your ski and wakeboard out to a local dealer and ride behind the boats before you make your final decision.

tj_in_kc 05-14-2008 9:05 AM

hey, i found the perfect boat for you. wake is sic, lots of power for popping up a skier and plenty of room for storage too. fits your specs.

check out the wake...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMIF2GrdL28
