Some winter riding from this past Saturday on the delta. It was freezing that day with total water and air temps at around 105. Still had a great time! Thanks to Mark, Mike, Rod and Ja for a great day!

Hope you enjoy!
4 Guys, a Chick and a Teddy
Music By Fuel
http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=9859
Nice video Stefani, even a cameo by ghettofish! What no gators this time out?

ivyrider 01-27-2004 8:52 AM

Stephani - awesome video!! It was cool seeing you guys on the water. Few of those face plants looks a little painful though. Keep up the good work, girl!!
Lynsey - One big gator, bout 10' long, but he was too quick ... not one seal this time... Gator must have gotten them already. Ran over a few fish heads though.

tparider 01-27-2004 9:12 AM

mmmmm.... fish heads.
Great vid Stefani

jetgofish 01-27-2004 9:12 AM

01-27-2004 12:29 PM

Nice Vid Stef. I could have sworn I jump higher than the video points out. I think you need to re-edit it. Thanks for the hard work.

wakelvr 01-27-2004 1:20 PM

typhoon 01-27-2004 1:51 PM

great vid. thanks for always sharing. i was scared to watch this after reading the title thinking one of the guys may be wearing a teddy...

wakejumper8 01-27-2004 1:55 PM

Nice job guys! When's teddy going to ride? Stef, looking good as always! Nice job on the video, it's great to watch you out there!

speedy 01-27-2004 6:12 PM

Hey guys,
Thanks for a great day riding and the BBQ after. I look forward to riding with you again in the future.

mark

hobag 01-27-2004 6:32 PM

Nice video, I'm jealous I haven't been in like four months.

I was like wow these guys are really toughing the cold, and then I check the profile and realize your from Cali, Whatever I'm up here in 30 degree weather.

Not hatin tho

stormrider 01-27-2004 7:11 PM

Loved it.

I'll take the boat and Stef. Teddy can stay.

Rod, you need to get your shoulders back as you edge into the wake to increase line tension.

Jason. Yeah!!! Keeping the style going-- freezing your butt off but still keeping the spirit of wakeboarding alive by cracking open a cold one.

Mark, those rolls were intense!

Yep, I'm jealous. It's after 7 and I'm still at work with no riding in sight.

01-28-2004 9:09 AM

Good Point Steven. I am getting ticked off at myself. My legs always want to squirt out the back on regular jumps. Do you think keeping my shoulders back more will help or am I just screwed because my board rides lower in the water?

01-28-2004 9:14 AM

I just watched it again. It looks like when I push my arms down, my legs go back. Is this what you are talking about Steven? I need to end that habit right now regardless.

wakelvr 01-28-2004 9:26 AM

Hey, Steven... Ja might fight you for the boat!

Thanks all for the comments! It gives me motivation to keep up the video making!

P.S. I really need help with standing tall at the wake and holding the handle in. I absolutely cannot do it and it's really discouraging. Why is it so difficult???? Anyone out there ever have the same problem? How did you break that habit??? UGH!

lchamaschuk 01-28-2004 10:49 AM

I had the same problem. Even though I thought I was standing tall, I wasn't. I found what worked for me was overemphasizing. I tried to be like a spring - compressing when coming in to the wake, and at the wake I would spring up (almost jumping but not - just standing up really fast or releasing the spring). Seems to work for me.
greatdane 01-28-2004 11:00 AM

Many really good riders simply assert into the wake. They change their body position very little. At most, they get a little taller leaning against the rope. Joe Umali has sweet short approach pop. He barely changes his body position as he asserts into the wake. And, his assertion into the wake is very very late. This creates a nice vertical floaty pop. Its safer too. Its a beautiful thing in my book.

typhoon 01-28-2004 11:09 AM

stefani,
try to remember to keep your hips directly under you almost like doing a pelvic thrust and it will keep you straight and tall.

01-28-2004 11:51 AM

That is true Dane. I just need to keep back on the rope more. I noticed that nasty habit of pushing my hands down. I can not wait to ride again and keep my hands up more and keep most tension. I do not know why I started that. I notice everything stays real nice on my 180's. I think it is because my hands do not go down. My shoulders feel up and the balance is real nice.

Those lite guys like Joe have it made in this sport. When you weigh 294 lbs like I do, you don't have much technique to give away. Everything seems like it has to be perfect.

greatdane 01-28-2004 12:05 PM

Yes, it helps to be a feather weight. I can tell a big difference between 10 lbs of body weight. This year, I want to be back to 170 lbs from 190 to see what that is like. It takes more force to send more mass into the air (f=ma);

jetgofish 01-28-2004 2:05 PM

Stef - I'll help ya when I get back from the Rockies...I'll be tapping them, but won't be looking for any Coors Light! Tah ha ha!!

Rod..it's all about the butt poke!

dakid 01-28-2004 3:16 PM

Thanks dane. I bet you wouldn't be saying that though if you saw me ride now. I need to learn to ride all over again!

As for standing tall, think about sticking your chest out as you come off the wake. That cures 2 things:

a. gets you to stand tall,
b. brings the handle in.

At the same time, think about keeping your elbows in to your side (ribs). It really helps to keep the handle in. Watch Arun ride. You'll see that's exactly where he has his elbows...on his side.

This is exactly how I got Cory to stand tall. And if you've seen him ride, he stands taller than anyone I know!

(Message edited by dakid on January 28, 2004)

By the way dane, you need to modify your chart. The VLX has awesome fuel consumption and steeper wake now.

wakelvr 01-28-2004 8:03 PM

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll be working hard at this...

buttacup 01-28-2004 8:32 PM

Stef- I have the same problem as you, one of my bad habits that I need to break. I get enough speed and my edge holds but it's that whole timing thing that gets me. But then again it could be the riding location I go to also

wakelvr 01-28-2004 9:10 PM

Lynsey, next time you are in the area, let me know. We can go out and work on it together:-)

buttacup 01-29-2004 8:27 PM

sssscchhhhaaaaaawwweeeeeettttttt. I tend to ride better when I'm at the delta, go figure.
