well i was planning on taking my boat to my parents house today to do some work on it in the comfort of their garage for the weekend. however, the high today is 24 degrees and i had the boat in the water 10 days ago. it's been in a heated underground apartment garage since then. it would be outside for about 3 hours until i could get it inside again. is this too risky as far as any water freezing and doing damage to the boat?

You should be fine. It would probably have to be out for 18-24 hours before you would do any damage. The only thing that could possibly have a problem would be the heater core if you have a heater. If so you may want to blow out the lines. It would only take a couple of minutes for peace of mind.

yeah it does have a heater. just picked up the boat this winter....how do you blow out the lines?

jay, on your boat, just pull off the ends of the heater hose (5/8", black) and literally blow into one side and water will come out the other. There is a shut-off valve (like you'd see for a hose on the side of the house) on the starboard side. The hose coming out of there is the input hose. Then look for the other hose coming back from the bow that is the same size, it will plug in in the back of the motor, access it from the port side. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by etakk7 on April 06, 2007)

i agree that you will be fine. but i wouldn't get anywhere close to 18 hours i 24*. about 6 is where i would draw the line.

well after looking at an updated weather report i think i'm gonna just leave it where it is. The high for the next three days is going to be about 30 degrees (lows of 15)...and it may snow some tomorrow. My parents garage isn't heated, i was thinking about just throwing a space heater out there and hanging a heat lamp in the engine compartment. i think it'll probably be easier to just leave it alone till it warms up.
