I have a gangload of wakeboard vids on VHS. What I want to do is transfer (one by one) on to MiniDV, then capture each one on to my hard drive. Eventually, I want to burn them on CDs in a VCD or SVCD format.

1. Does this sound like the easiest way to do it?
2. Can I use Premiere 6.5 for this?
3. Would a wakeboard vid fit on one CD?
4. Any tips/advice?

Thanks!

why dont you just hook the vcr straight into the computor. it would be a lot less work. and you could still capture it that way.

joe, if you have a camcorder you can do exactly as JONb suggests. most camcorder analog outputs also function as inputs.

hook up your vcr to the analog connections of your mini-dv camcorder and then hook your mini-dv up to your computer via firewire. you should now be able to play your vhs tape and capture straight onto your hard disk.

and yes, a wakeboard film will easily fit on a vcd formatted cd. my friend put higher education on cd.

and yes you can use premiere 6.5.

(Message edited by deepstructure on January 23, 2004)

If your DVD player will play SVCD then you'll get much higher quality that way, but some videos may not fit on a single CD.
I have an analog camcorder so I bought a Dazzle digital video creator 50 (DVC-50) off ebay for cheap. It hooks up right from the VCR straight up to the computer and you can capture your VHS's to your hard drive that way...it does skip the whole minidv method though.

Here's a way of finding if a MiniDV has A/V inputs. ALOT of them dont.

http://www.viosport.com/resources/index.php?type=ntsc&page=compatibility&man ufacturer=Canon
