Back ground info: <BR>2001 Tige 21i, ran perfect last fall, when it went into storage for the winter it got all new fluids and filters and a new battery was installed for the new season <BR> <BR>Now, when getting ready to put it in the water it wouldn't start. I believe no power is getting to the starter because it isnt clicking like usual. Im thinking that it may be the fuse but im not sure. is it in neutral? Is the safety lanyard properly attached? Battery hooked up/turned on?

Doesn't sound like a ground for the starter, maybe the ignition... Do you have any power to anything?

Battery is hooked up and it is in neutral but now that i think about it i will have to check if the lanyard was in or not. <BR> <BR>and yes we have power to everything except the stereo and somthing with the starter

It has come to my attention that even if i didn't have the lanyard hooked up you would still be able to here the starter clicking so it couldn't have been because of that.

No it wouldn't: No lanyard no clicking. (At least on my boat)

My boat doesn't do a thing when the dead man lanyard isn't hooked up. In fact, there are a number of people online who report those switches going bad, or the connectors on the back of them going bad. <BR> <BR>Also check the connections at the starter. Or try arching the connectors on the starter with a screwdriver. That should tell you if you have power at the starter.

The lanyard is definitely connected, although like you said it is still possible that the switch in there has gone bad. <BR> <BR>However we did find a push button circuit breaker button in the engine compartment and we have no clue what it is for. It pushed out but we are having trouble pushing it back in. Thats the main circuit breaker. It should be pushed in. Can you test for voltage on each side of it? Or test for voltage at the positive lead on the starter. <BR> <BR>Another thing that can fail is the solenoid on the starter. You'll have to determine if there is power at the starter first. If so, then one option would be to pull the starter &amp; take it into your favorite auto parts store &amp; have them test it.

Push in on the kill switch plunger then try to crank! I wouldn't assume that the clip is pushing the plunger in enough. <BR> <BR>If the breaker is out and wont reset (push in) then there is a dead short. My dad, zirbel and I are working on our temper mental little baby, but here's a little update. There is power at the starter but not at the ignition switch. Also, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this, but my dad accidentally hooked the battery up backwards for 2 days while we had it back at the house.

^^^ Probably welded the breaker contacts together!

Yep seen that before. Battery hooked up backwards equals a new alternator.

Not to mention any electronics that was on will be fried

There weren't any electronics on during this time period. The puzzling thing is that only the stereo and ignition don't work. We tested a lot of the wires and they all had power going to them except the ignition. <BR> <BR>Also, it doesn't do jack squat when we turn the key. No trying to turn over, no clicking, nothing...

What did you do about that black wire hanging out? If it goes to the ignition, you'll get nothing when you turn the key. If your radio is wired to the ignition it won't work either. Find out where the wire goes first! <BR> <BR>Jman

Did you check for voltage at the starter? <BR> <BR>Maybe it fried the solenoid too. <BR> <BR>Stereo not working might be because it's fried too. It wouldn't have to be on, just hooked up to the constant on power wire (used to retain settings, clock, etc.).

Fusable link!!! Got it goin for Memorial Day weekend, which ended up amounting to nothing.

I have the same problem here. I have nothing to the gages, no fuel pump noise, and nothing on the starter. The problem started after i check on the lanyard switch to see if it would work proprely. Is there a way to check on this switch to make sure it isn't faulty??

i tryied to jumpstart but still nothing to the instrument cluster.
