As I said in an earlier thread, Im moving back to Truckee.

Just curious what other WW'ers can be found around the area and where they ride at (for snow).

madchild1 09-27-2006 2:43 PM

i can't remember too much about the mountains, it's been a few years. i do recall vividly that i REALLY disliked squaw. i thought it was WAAAYY overrated.

migs 09-27-2006 2:47 PM

NStar!!!!!
Park is always RIDICULOUS
Tree riding back side - fantastic
lookout Mountain - always empty

juiced4ever 09-27-2006 2:55 PM

You will see me poking around town. In the winter i ride alot of Alpine Meadows. Cheap season pass for weekday riders. But hit me up when you move. Always down to meet more people around here.

mjmurphy53711 09-27-2006 3:02 PM

Last winter I lived there and had a season pass to Alpine Meadows, NSTAR, and Boreal.

Nstar was cool for park during the week, but the weekends forget it. The park is good, the mountain blows.

Boreals park rocks.

Alpine Meadows is where I went for both park and mountain......On the weekends you dont even wait in line for more than 5-10 minutes at Alpine, ever, even on a bluebird powder day. Plus if you are into the biggest jumps in Tahoe that is where they are found.

Squaw I went to one day with a local, pretty much amazed by the mountain, but 1799 for a season pass? OUCH.

I basically get my Alpine, Nstar, and Boreal pass for less, so I think that is what I will do again this year.

regalado1 09-27-2006 4:31 PM

Miguel's got it. Northstar.

jarrod 09-27-2006 5:03 PM

Northstar is a little too flat for the big powder days.

4 feet + = hiking.

mjmurphy53711 09-27-2006 5:20 PM

LOL. Aint that the truth, it aint called flatstar for nothing, and their jumps need a bit of work, the jibs are fun though.

nate138 09-27-2006 5:24 PM

Mike
Make the drive to kirkwood. It's well worth it.

mjmurphy53711 09-27-2006 5:25 PM

Kwood is on my agenda this year no doubt.

Have you been to Alpine?

jarrod 09-27-2006 6:19 PM

Alpine is dope. Nice and steep. Great terrain off to the side that you can hike and built hits too.

Kirkwood gets the most snow, and the face is damn steep.

View of Lake Tahoe from the top of Summit Six at Alpine Meadows, and a view of the perfect park at Alpine.

nate138 09-27-2006 8:42 PM

Alpine is a top 3 for me. Don't forget to give Mt. Rose love either.

dakid 09-27-2006 10:01 PM

i get free passes to squaw so hopefully i'll get to head up there this winter.

attila916 09-27-2006 10:34 PM

I am in the garage waxing away...

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 7:03 AM

That last pic is out of bounds, although it does get poached.......that is some gnarly stuff.

The fingers are cool too.

I hiked the chief last year, the one and only time I was taken to squaw by a local legend.

Im still considering getting a squaw pass this year, but damn, 1799.

jarrod 09-28-2006 7:15 AM

That's way to much dough. You have to ride 30 days to start saving money.

How much is an Alpine pass?

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 7:33 AM

Alpine is 699-899 depending on when you buy it.

I know I know, Kwood=299.

I break 100 days a year though.

jarrod 09-28-2006 7:53 AM

The northside is the only area still embracing the huge fees for passes with the exception of Nstar, which is owned by the same company as Sierra@tahoe.

Even Heavenly is 300-400 bucks.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 8:06 AM

Yes, and thats why NSTAR has 40 minute lift lines on the weekends, while Alpine has 5 minute lines.

For that reason alone its worth it to me.

I hear that heavenly is crowded too.

I made it to sierra last year, nice park.....didnt see much of the mountain, crowds werent bad, I would go back.

Kwood is on my hit list, Heavenly is not ( I was a Vail Resorts employee in CO for awhile ).

Last year I spent 699 for Alpine unlimited.

199 for Boreal unlimited.

and 349 for Nstar and Sierra unlimited.

Four resorts for 500 bucks less than just squaw, I think that is what I will do again this year.

guido 09-28-2006 8:07 AM

Mike, did you get to Northstar at the end of the season. The hits in the park were insanely huge in April. I think they built a bunch of them for a comp.

Also, don't forget Sugar Bowl. The backcountry riding off the side of the mountain, down to Donner is insane. Definitely need some locals for guides on that one. Scott Perbetsky took my out there last year. Sick. A little hiking, but it was totally worth it.

I'll be down to check out Alpine this year. It's pretty close to my house and I haven't ridden there in years. I used to get the student passes at Northstar for $199 so it was a pretty solid deal.

Now we just need some snow. I hope it doesn't wait till Febuary to start snowing like it did last year.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 8:11 AM

LOL True that^

Im planning on hitting Sugarbowl with you and Scott, Ive heard good things about it.

I was at the resorts until May 1st, the problem with NSTARS jumps is they build a 40 foot jump with a kick like its an 80 footer and then dont give it any landing.

A proper jump should have a 80-100 foot landing zone on it.

I would hit nstars jumps and go to landing in the flat almost every time, really screwed me up mentally and didnt do much for the knees!

Where is your house?

parkgirl 09-28-2006 8:21 AM

haha so funny you mention that Mike...I have always noticed that about their jumps, super sketch. no thanks.

That pic of Alpine's park looks nice, I might have to ride there this year.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 8:35 AM

^Its always perfect there, and a bit out of my league but the biggest jump last year was 92 ft lip to deck.

I think I talked to you last year, do you and your guy have something to do with Sierra's park?

parkgirl 09-28-2006 8:58 AM

we did chat a little last year. Nice, so you are moving back to Tahoe, for good?...we just left, moved down closer to the Delta, but we still have our house in Tahoe so we'll be there a lot this winter. Maybe we'll meet up and ride at Alpine?

Yeah Scott ran/designed Sierra's parks, and I just rode there...love that mtn., especially on pow days, not the steepest, but the most secret stashes!

jarrod 09-28-2006 9:05 AM

Sierra is one of my favorites too. I have hundreds of days on that mountain.

I'm not a big park rider. I like the trees theres. Lot's of rock drops.

boarder_x 09-28-2006 9:14 AM

Joe,

I'll go to Squaw with you. Show you some pretty cool runs. Only been there a few times, but I think I know my way around.

I know Sierra and FlatStar better, but then we would have to pay.

K.B.C. 09-28-2006 9:42 AM

Alpine $549, Sunday through Friday until tomorrow then the price goes up. Got mine yesterday

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 9:48 AM

YESSSSSSSSSSS!

Scott, glad you got a pass this year.

Andrea, yea, Ill ride anywhere Alpine or Sierra.

Is Scott still doing the park?

K.B.C. 09-28-2006 10:18 AM

Mike, I had two passes last year, the Bowl and Boreal

big_ed_x2 09-28-2006 10:19 AM

I've been to Sierra on a bad day and I wasn't impressed but if it has a lot of stashes and rock drops,I need to try that place again.

I haven't been too many places(mostly all westcoast)but Mammoth by far is the best overall....A lot of snow,a lot of snow, nice steep runs, great park for all riders, nice long seasons, etc.Never went there after November and said....damn this sucks!

brhanley 09-28-2006 10:20 AM

In my view, nothing compares to Squaw...but I may be biased as I probably have over 500 days there. Well worth the extra $$$...it was (only) $1430 before September. Their parks are inconsistent though, depends on the year. Go to NStar for park. Squaw does have local discounts mid-week and a pretty cool frequent skier program (buy 4, get 5th free) to hit up the good days.

KBC, that wake looks washy to me. Step up to a real boat, why don't you.

K.B.C. 09-28-2006 10:47 AM

BCH, that was the old boat. I just upgraded to a brand new, red X-1. Much better then that bammer 210 wake. You should come check it out sometime

(Message edited by sperbet on September 28, 2006)

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 11:07 AM

Wait, Scott........I know you didnt get ride of the SS, Brian, did you get an x1?

guido 09-28-2006 11:07 AM

Scott, when you coming down to ride the delta. You guys still riding in Truckee, or is it getting too cold?

Pretty sure I'll be up there this weekend. Maybe we can try to hook up again and I can bag out like I'm a bi-otch like usual.

boarder_x 09-28-2006 11:08 AM

Ed, Sierra has an awesome tree/ backdrop area. There are some OB sections that nobody touches.

Sierra on a PowPow day, could be my favorite place. ... Better than the bowl, but I haven't been to Squaw on a powder day.

guido 09-28-2006 11:10 AM

Mike, I don't know about the hits at N-star. I just thought they looked huge. I'm getting too old and arthritic to be smashing myself up. I'll stick to the rails and the mountain with the ocasional table top thrown in for good measure. That way I'm healthy for wake season and I can really eff- myself up proper. LOL

K.B.C. 09-28-2006 11:24 AM

Evan, it's getting cold, but we've still been heading out a couple times a week up here. I'm actually heading down to Rollins this weekend to camp and ride.

I still want to hit up the Delta sometime before the end of the season, maybe middle of next month. I'll let you know.

K.B.C. 09-28-2006 11:49 AM

Sierra better than the bowl on a pow day, hah. j/k guys, I've never ridden Sierra, but here's a taste of Donner Summit backcountry.

This is my buddy Jonny, pick up the new Transworld, they have a sweet section on North Lake Tahoe/Truckee and they published the shot of him mid 3 with the indy.

guido 09-28-2006 12:10 PM

Man, that pic/sequence is so dope. I'm definitely down for that back country ride again.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 12:33 PM

NICE.

Id like to do the lake run with you Scott.

Evan, believe it or not wakeboarding is way harder on the body than crashing on a table.

I can go weeks without falling on my planks, not the case on my wakeboard!

dakid 09-28-2006 12:34 PM

i broke my wrist trying to hit a table top.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 1:02 PM

^yea that can happen.

Against my better judgement here is a pic of me hitting a jump at Vail two years ago.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 1:03 PM

If anyone is REALLY bored I can post some video of me riding too LOL.

mjmurphy53711 09-28-2006 1:17 PM

Oh what the hell.....here is six minutes of me riding park in Colorado and Wisconsin (LOL).

Make fun if you must, it was before I learned sw ups 270's on and bigger jumps.

http://snowcoupons.com/media/video/Mike_Murphy_Video.mov

jwag 09-28-2006 1:41 PM

So thats what skiing 100 days a year gets ya...nice stuff Mike. Good to see there is another person out there that still rides two planks ;) I always thought Squaw would lower their rates once cushing died, but unfortunately it hasnt happen. Def. the best terrain up there
