I just had a ported box made from MDF for my new Kicker 12 L7 and I was planning on covering the outside with resin to waterproof it.

Then I realized that the port is going to be open to get wet and soak up moisture. The port is facing the inside of the boat behind the driver's seat.

How should i seal the inside???

I thought about just using tall gloves and doing my best to cover the inside with resin, but that seems like an irritating process.

Any thoughts / experiences?

Pour the resin in there and spin it around. More is better than not enough.

Squid "Great Advice"

Stick to "not" painting box's

Jon: How about this.

Take the sub out. Resin the inside of the box with fiberglass resin and a throw away paint brush. That will be easy. For the port aera. I would take a wood stir stick and tape it or glue the throw away brush and use it to get the hard to reach spot's. And yes use plastic glove's. Can you flip or tun the box so that the port is located at the top of the box?

I know it's a little late in the game for this question, but...why do you want a ported box?

Grant,

Good call... I havent even installed the sub yet so that's easy and i can move it around however i need.

Swass,

A friend of mine had a kicker in a ported box and I loved it. It will work perfect for what i am trying to accomplish on the water. I am not looking for great sound quality and I don't want to break the bank... but I also want a sub that will pound. I am young and stupid and i like loud things... if you dont like the first reason...lol.

I did however just buy a pair of addictions and and Orion 8004!!! Counting the hours until i can get on the water with the addictions blasting.

(Message edited by texasbear08 on March 09, 2006)

Jon, you'll like the sound in the ported box. I prefer the volume/sound of a ported box over a sealed....I think alot of people shy away from them in boats b/c of the airspace requirements, or just don't liek the sound. If you've got the space, ported is the way to go IMO. I hooked up a friends pair of addcitions to my boat last week, they are freakin loud...it was honestly hard to tell the difference between them and the 1010's, but we were only a few feet away and I'd had a few beers.
