what speed should the boat be going in order to jump and clear the wake?

wakeriderixi 01-11-2007 8:13 PM

Depends on weight, type of boat, brand of boat, lengh of line, postion of weight, depth of water and speed you feel comfortable.

wake_upppp 01-11-2007 8:15 PM

21 to 23 are good starting points.

wakeriderixi 01-11-2007 9:04 PM

Yea, I always go with 22 as the average for most boats I ride. Behind a Super Air 220 I go 25, don't understand that.

**edit part**

I car feel that i'm going way fast at 25 but it just makes the wake so perfect. So I know it's the speed I should be for best performance but It's way fast.

(Message edited by wakeriderixi on January 11, 2007)

Depends on how bad you want a bust to hurt haha

wakeecliptict863 01-12-2007 6:35 AM

Depends on how much weight you have in the boat like I have 4500 so I have to go 24-25 no matter what or my wake is going to start rolling over but if you have hardley any weight in your boat 22-23 is the best

jarrod 01-12-2007 6:51 AM

Put simply, it depends (1) on the wake, and (2) on your ability. Dial in the speed to where the wake is clean and firm, then adjust your rope lenth to a comfortable starting distance.

4500 pounds in an X2 huh? What year?

It sim

gogol_bordello 01-12-2007 8:08 AM

the boat is a 2007 yahmaha...new im 135 pounds and 5 foot 3...no not fat...i think the fastest i've gone is about 19 or 20 and when i jumped that i landed right on the inside of the wake next to the where the wake meets water...

rothy 01-12-2007 11:14 AM

Andy, I grew up on Bass Lake and still have family there. Do you know the Rothchilds? My parents are teachers there.

gogol_bordello 01-12-2007 7:09 PM

hmm...Rothchilds...it doesn't ring a bell but i may know them or my step dad might...where do they teach?

atf8611 01-13-2007 1:09 AM

im pretty new, but i was able to clear the wake doing 20 on a 1996 mastercraft 205 w/ no ballast.

gogol_bordello 01-13-2007 10:43 AM

ok i think im gonna have to go like 23...cuz my boat is a lil more heavier than most...so yeah

blxboarder 01-13-2007 12:29 PM

yamaha? lol you have yammaha in your profile and you spelled it yahmaha up there

gogol_bordello 01-13-2007 12:34 PM

ha thanks i fixed it..

closedtoe 01-13-2007 1:43 PM

i go 27 because i only weigh 100 pounds.....im only 13. J rod if u add some weight to the front of the boat the wake will be cleaner

gogol_bordello 01-13-2007 1:45 PM

really? i'm going to have too try that out...

closedtoe 01-13-2007 7:41 PM

ya but next time i go out(probably may)im going to add some weight to the front so the wake doesnt curl. i go 27 because if i dont the wake curls and i just heard that when you add some weight to the bow it prevents it from happening. im gonna lower my speed to probably 25 or so

wakeriderixi 01-13-2007 9:35 PM

J Rod knows what he's talking about.. I'm sure he can weight the boat just fine

gogol_bordello 01-15-2007 8:11 PM

dont u want the wake to curl...so you have a hook to jump off on...oh wait...oh ok i get it..

rothy 01-16-2007 9:27 AM

He teaches at North Fork and my mom is a speach pathologist at all the mountain schools.

goatroper222000 01-20-2007 5:50 AM

everyone ive talked to says around 20-23... but the pros seem like their goin alot faster... i dunno. i go 23.

quickpilot1010 01-20-2007 5:30 PM

Im 6 ft. and weigh 170 lbs and cleared the wake on an 04 moomba goin 18. I was using a 141 Synergy.

bftskir 01-20-2007 6:40 PM

I don't use a wakeboard so to jump across the wakes barefoot I go about 44.

sixeye 01-20-2007 9:09 PM

Paul,

Coincidentally, I usually ride at 22 or slightly less behind most boats but behind the Nauty, 25 is the right speed for me too. That's just what feels right for me. I've heard this from a few others too.

arizonarider 02-21-2007 8:02 PM

I am riding behind a older day cruiser and I weigh about 110 pounds. Does anyone have any suggestions on rope length or speed?
Thank You

02-21-2007 8:21 PM

see post 2. then try this. ride about 60-65 feet at 20-21 mph

ironcross25 02-22-2007 5:58 AM

Andymac thats crazy..lets see some barefoot air pics

andy_nintzel 02-22-2007 7:45 AM

Nice and fast 26.5-26mph at 85 feet!

shagman 02-22-2007 8:33 AM

Colin, you should get your speedo calibrated. I would bet that you're going quite a bit slower than 27. If you were going that fast your wake definitely wouldn't be curling over.

hawaiianstiln 02-22-2007 10:43 AM

Andy knows how it's done! He's "rid'n dirty"

Nice and fast with extensions on the rope will make you fly!!
