Hello,

Any fellow X-Star/205V/X-2 owners had the bracket added for the alternator recall yet?

I just recieved the bracket this week and tried to put it on, but can't quite see what it is attached to. There are only two mounting bolts on the alternator, and I think it should go on the bottom (see yellow circle) but I am not sure if it should go on the front or the back side.

Here's the top which looks pretty sturdy and doesn't seem to need any improvement.

Also here is a couple shots of the bracket and the supplied bolt. I just can't quite see what it attaches to on the engine or possibly to the water pump braket???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. A digital snap or a quick drawing would warrent me tippin my 40 (ok 12) to you next time I am out on the lake.

Thanks in Advance.

Dropped my 02 x30 to the dealership, did it for free, sorry can't help you on the placment, also, did you get a recall for a oil pump impeller, got it about the same time as the alternator bracket recall

The bracket attaches to the front top bolt on the alternator (second picture) and the other end attaches to the waterpump

What brought this recall on? Also the mounting brackets for the alternator are not adjustable right?

Do recall letters (and parts?) get sent directly to owners, or do they go to the dealers ? Just curious as I am not convinced I would learn about them if it they go trough the dealer. If so, is there a way to check out recalls any other way?

Needless to say, I haven't gotten the bracket or notice about it yet...

Thx.

(Message edited by fbroen on May 21, 2003)

Rob thanks for the info. I will try that and see if I can get it to fit.

Badzuki, I think what brought this on is that the lower tab of the alternator is not very thick and is susceptible to breakage which isn't too catastrophic, but it will eventually break wires and lead to failer of the alternator.

BTW, there are two other recalled parts on the X-Star (205V). One is a transmission breather vent and the other is inspection of the oil pump drive gear at every oil change for uneven wear.

the oil pump drive gear will only be replaced under warranty if it is determined to have uneven wear. Since its a fairly important part...I just bought it.

Fredrik - I was sent a letter (two actually) directly from MasterCraft. I did purchase my boat brand-new from a dealer so the factory probably has me on file. If I sold my boat to someone I doubt they would have any way to know about issues other than going to the dealer. Also, they did not send the parts, simply told me to go to my dealer.
