I personally loved our Hydrodyne Legacy .... it put up a great wake and the prices aren't crazy. Ours was a 1994 with 800 hours (rebuilt at 600 hours), had automatic ballast (rear metal tank that replaces seat base so we didn't lose seating and could put 1000 lbs in the rear and a bag under the closed bow so it was out of the way), it had a tower with 2 board racks, full stereo system with 6 tower speakers, and trailer.... we sold it for 8k before the economy took a dump (sure it similar will be selling for far less now) Your list should include: 90s Hydrodynes Sport Nautiques 2001 Nautiques Barefoot / Excel Nautiques ( http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=30797 - slightly over budget and slightly under budget http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=30079 ) Malibu Sunsetters Supra Saltare (don't know when they switched to wood) .... but again, you're not going to get much out of these without some extra weight. |
Over your budget, has fat sacs and the interior needs some love but this boat throws an amazing wake (friend of a friend's boat)

The thing I found when looking for my Saltare was $10k-$12k is about the price point for composite vs wood. Under $10k means you're looking at wood boats. You didn't say where you're located, but a searching Craigslist I see these composite boats... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/boa/2778173278.html http://mendocino.craigslist.org/boa/2764950996.html http://memphis.craigslist.org/boa/2746625810.html http://jacksontn.craigslist.org/boa/2714319781.html Personally under $10k I'd be looking for a Sunsport, Saltare, SNOB, BFN/Excel, or similar. If you want to go cheaper and just get a good boat for a couple seasons and then go to a newer composite boat in a few years just pick up a SN2001, Pirata, or something similar that has some freeboard so you can drive comfortably with some weight in it. Closed bow boats are priced a few thousand below open bow. Don't stress over wood in the short term. If you buy a boat that's in good condition and take care of it you won't have to worry about stringers for many years. All depends on what you're coming from though. If your current boat is an I/O or outboard just get an inboard you like with no rot issues before summer. If you already have an older smaller wood stringer inboard, then wait to find what's right and save steadily to increase your budget as time goes on. |
Bayliner wake challenger or ski challenger. Nice older v-drives, I got mine for 12k.

What part of the country are you looking in? I know of a good one in Indiana. PM me if interested.

That's a lot for an 18' closed bow with no freeboard. You could get a SN2001 for about half the price and have a better wake. Better deals available, but it is composite.

We got our 98 Sanger v210 for 13k with 500 hrs in excellent condition. It has wood stringers but that's a good thing. No wood rot is a guarantee from Sanger with a lifetime warranty. You should for sure look for a Sanger best boat for the price IMO.
